Great story Trip.
But grovel to sort it out? Why should he have to grovel to someone coz he sent a text to the wrong number? Its his gf at fault, throwing him out on the streets, what a pussy.
Sometimes lifes a lot easier if ya let lady think they're right!!!!!!! ###### hath no fury like a woman scorned (or if she think's she's scorned).
And sometimes life gets a lot worse if you allowed yourself to be pussy whipped so easily. Depsite that fact that your pride is gone, and she will always believe she was right about this and you 'play around' which will come back to you many a time.
I say set her straight about this, and not with a grovel either, the poor guy just spent a night out of his bed coz he sent a text to the wrong person, how mad is that.
Sorry if you disagree but I just can't believe the amount of farang guys out here that are in such fear of their girlfriends.
And then to come on here and ask a bunch of strangers what he should do, like we are all going to flip open the 'thai girls handbook' and give him a speech about loss of face, buddhist traditions and some other cultural differences to show him that its just a simple misunderstanding on his part, he doesn't know the culture and what he should do is this or that.
Facts are facts, she's being out of order, and he aint got the balls to tell her so.
I mean, honestly, a question to all the men - If your gf threw you out on the streets because you accidently pressed the wrong button on a mobile would you go back the next day and grovel to her to get back in the house?
F.uck that, get a bit of self respect.
Every rational person would agree with you. I consider myself to be a rational person too. However, in the past years, living with my thai wife, I have noticed that being rational doesn't always cut the cake. I can only speak for my wife, but she can be so stubborn that she would blow up our entire relationship for, indeed something stupid as mentioned above. I totally agree that this is a bad habit and that sometimes it's a fine line between keeping your self-respect and saving your relationship. For some people on this forum however love and relationships seem to be so cheap that they always come up with "plenty more fish in the sea" slogan. I can only imagine them to be so self centered and shallow that it is indeed very easy for them to move on...

Peechit? Pee - shit ?? Get it???
(Justing letting my kid-in-a-classroom-instincts run freely...)

I don't want to get all PC but isn't the money that people lose in the casino on the burmese side going directly into the pockets of the military junta? Thanks but no thanks...
-
Call Thaksin and tell him to leave the idea of casinos... Here's something much better to attract tourists! I'd go to Thailand to see a real alien, but not to gamble in a f***ing casino.

...P.p.s. Enjoy your diving when you do get here-I saw and stroked my first leopard shark yesterday,it was GREAT.
One of the first rules of responsible diving is Look Don't Touch. Maybe your dive instructor was not so good after all...

Sanmig, you come across as somebody who thinks he, as a male, is superior to women. The fact that you have women as friends doesn't mean sh1t. My dog is my friend too and I love him. But I do think I am higher on the food chain. So for you women must be somewhere between chimps and male humans?
If you didn't mean it that way, then next time choose your words more carefully.

It's saddens me to see that it is considered "common sense" to kill the snake that is in the yard. Not that I am superstitious about killing it. Thailand is losing a lot of wildlife as it is. We should not make it worse by acting like this. It's probably easier said that than done but isn't there a "snake wrangler" in the neighborhood who can relocate the snake. In the US they do this all the time with rattle snakes. (Could I get a work permit for this???

I am with Boo on this one. In general I don't understand it either. On the other hand I don't rule out the possibility that young/old, fat/skinny, ugly/pretty people really love each other. Just like the buffalo can actually BE sick sometimes too, you know...

A few weeks ago some researchers in the Netherlands came to the conclusion that all the efforts made to sensitize people about the abuse of alcohol had had absolutely no effect. Maybe hitting people where it hurts them most - in their wallet - is the only way to change their habits. After all, what we're doing in Europe with tobacco is not that much different from what Thailand is doing now...
(Yes yes I am aware of the negative side effects too, I am just trying to add another view to the matter
)

Here's one:
"It's daddy you sh1thead, where's my bourbon!"

Thanks for the info. I hope to give it a try in Phuket then.

Question for the eye for an eye-guys: Can we also apply the death penalty on the procecution, judge and jury who later turn out to be responsible for wrongly convicting somebody to death? All you quick-to-judge-kill'em-all-and-let-god-sort 'em-out people would in that case be dead already.
I am not a bleeding heart liberal. I support the principle of the death penalty but only in an ideal world where all the facts and circumstances are known.

Another one:
# 1: You want answers?
# 2: I think I'm entitled.
# 1: You want answers?
# 2: I want the truth!
# 1: You can't handle the truth!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men
OK, here's another one
"That's my mother you're pissing on!"

Pattaya Fox, I believe you are mistaken. Sodium Chloride or NaCl is just plain old kitchen salt. I don't think it helps much disinfecting the water. You probably mean some form of chlorine.

If you look at the statistics, a little bit less than half of the people are under 40. If you check this thread to see who is showing their age, it's nearly all those who are under 40. Either these are all liars, or the people who don't give up their ages (the 'I told the truth'-people
) are 40 up.
BTW, I am 32: old enough to be wise already, young enough to be still strong and handsome

According to my wife there seem to be different levels of food problems. My wife comes from the far north and is not very open-minded about what she eats.
We've lived in Belgium for over a year and although there are several thai shops and restaurants, it's just not good enough. She says that this might be OK for a person from bangkok because they can eat restaurant-style curry and the likes. She, on the other hand....
This, combined with her tendancy to lean towards the above mentioned features (too reliant, little self-motivation,...) which lead to depression, practically forced us to go live in LOS. My wife went up there already. I am following next month...
ALthough it's the consequence of some kind of failure, I am very much looking forward to living there. I hope it will work out...
Sorry if I lower the optimism of some people with this story, but anyway it's no reason why you shouldn't try it. In my experience the visa stuff was not that much trouble...

Ice Maiden, I generally agree with what you say, but referring to England as an example might not have been the best choice. The other day I saw a documentary on teenage pregnancy in the UK and if I remember correctly the country was doing a lot worse than other neighbouring countries in Europe.

Does Thailand have any good beach breaks for a beginning surfer? I tried it in Indonesia on holiday and really liked it. Now moving to LOS but unlike Indonesia there don't seem to be any decent waves in LOS. Thanks already.

Zint, i am just curious but can you elaborate a little bit on "investing the money in your career"? Are planning to start up a business or something or does this simply mean that you just want to buy the D-Max for yourself because it looks good while applying for a job somewhere...

I don't claim to have all the answers but I've been a watermanagement engineer for almost 8 years now, and to me, building a desalination plant in Pattaya, a place with an average rainfall of more than 100 mm a month (http://www.pattaya.net/weather.htm) is BS.
An example: before my wife takes a shower she turns on the water. Obviously.
But after that she starts brushing her teeth, combing her hair or whatever, leaving the water running. In the end she wasted probably about half of the water for nothing. I am convinced this behaviour is typical and not only in Thailand. Can anybody explain to me why an average american uses about 600 liters of water a day, while a European uses only about 150 to 200 liters? At first sight, they seem to have the same style of living.

Bates, I called the Thai embassy in Brussels a few days ago. They now seem to have a native dutch speaking lady answering the phone. Could be helpful (if you speak dutch, that is). The Thai people there speak french besides english.

Wouldn't it be possible to take the two 2+1 month tourist visa, spend 6 months in Thailand, after that have a holiday in Malaysia or Cambodia and in the meanwhile apply for the same thing all over again while there?

I just bought an Ipod Photo 60Gb last week. The only way for me to bring my 600 CD's to Thailand. I haven't used it a lot but so far I love that thing.

If it wasn't for the fact that Joey Boy is senior member, I would think ol' Harmonica, who got thrown out of the forum last week, is back undercover.
Marriage Certificate
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
I am in exactly the same position.
I got the marriage certificate in the city hall and had it legalised in Brussels by the Belgian government. I didn't have it translated to get my non-O. Apparantly it was not necessary. However at the Thai embassy they advised me that i'd have it legalised by them too, so I could use it as a genuine document in Thailand.
I guess I still have to get it translated to get my extension but I plan to do this in Thailand as I think it will be cheaper.
As I will be staying in chiang rai I hope i don't need a trip to BKK in this scenario. Can anybody assure me about this.
