  1. This message is for Ubonjoe

I am from Scotland my age is 61 years old and i have been to Thailand twice last year 2014 and in 2015 on tourist visas. I have taken your advice I already have my own Kasikorn bank account in TRAT in my own name. It was opened with the help of my Thai girlfriend 1 year ago (We are not married) just live together for now. Next month June, I will go to Glasgow Royal Thai Consulate to try and get a Non Immigrant O Visa based on retirement (90 days) before the end of my first month in Thailand I will transfer approx 1 million baht into my bank account. Q. Will i have to have a Savings account first to get a 1 year extension based on retirement? Do I have to be over 65 and collecting the UK State pension to qualify? Q. What docs will I need to take to Laem Gnop Police Immigration office other than a letter from bank manager, an up to date bank book showing I have 800k in my account for 2 months in first year then (for 3 mths in 2nd yr). My 10 yr UK Passport, I will also take my Thai driving licence I obtained last Nov 2014 in Trat. Ubonjoe is there anything else I will need proof or document wise please? Later in the year I will transfer several millions more when the Thai baht weakens again which it has started to do now, but at present this is now what the Thai government wants because a strong Thai baht has definately harmed Thailand's ability to trade overseas and in the international money markets. You are the main person I would trust to give me accurate visa advice. Kind Regards. I decided not to go down the nightmare route of applying for a 1 yr Non OA Long stay visa. This would mean a 1000 mile round trip to London fm Scotland to get this visa as it is the only place to this type of visa from the Thai Embassy and then they said I had to 1. Go to my doctor and get a medical Cert. 2. A criminal check certificate. 3. My local bank manager letter show funds over 800,000 THB Equivalent in the UK not in a Thai bank as I was advised before. I would have to pay for overnight stay in a hotel as it takes more than 1day to get this visa. Q. Will I be able to get a Non Imm O Visa in Glasgow with only my Passport and other identification + passport photos? Ubonjoe if I can obtain my first 1 year extension based on retirement and reporting every 90 days to my local Police Imm office. This will be no problem in person or online as the office is only 25 klms away. At the end of my 1st year extn 12 mths? Or 1 yr + my first 90 day visa = 15 ths or is it only a total of 12 mths? Also before my first 1 year extn is ended how long before must I go back in person to re-apply for my 2nd 1 yr extension? If I am able to get a non imm o visa with 90 day reporting. I valve your advice and I await your replies. Thank You Kindly. My girlfriend has just had a major operation in Dec 2014 she was diagnosed in Chanthaburi hospital with abnormal blood cells in her cervix and she was advised to have her womb and both ovaries removed to give her the best chance for the cancer not to return. My GF is to return to hospital now 6 mths later which is tomorrow Tues 19th May for an Endoscopy we are both hoping she will have good luck. For now is my only option to get a triple tourist visa in Glasgow Thai consulate or is it possible to change to a non immigrant o visa in Thailand after my 800K has been weathered in my Kasikorn bank for 60 days? Or is this not possible unless I am married first? Kind Regards.

  2. Do you need to be aged 65 or over and have to go to London Thai embassy in person to try and get either a Non O Visa or a Non Immigrant OA Long stay visa 1 yr i am only 61 yrs old from Hamilton The lady in Ldn embassy could not get me off the phone quick enough, impatient totally unlike Glasgow where they are helpful. My Thai Girlfriend thinks all I need to do is get a tourist triple visa then in my first month transfer over 800,000 THB into my Kasikorn bank and leave in bank for 60 days then get a letter from bank manager and my bank book updated on the day I go to my local police immigration office to try and get a 1 year extension based on retirement by choice. I would use the 800k method as London embassy tells me there is no way I can get either a non imm O Visa or a Non imm OA Visa under the age of 65 yrs and I must produce proof of a state pension. I have no intentions of working in Thailand. I thought I could get a non imm O Visa if i was over 55 yrs old in Thailand. Can you give me any advice or from Ubonjoe. I want to avoid a 1000 mile round trip to London and spend overnight then I have to get 3 different certs and they told me i have also to pay a solicitor to notorise all 3 docs. A medical cert + a police criminal check + bank letter and statements stamped and signed plus letter of oension in the UK. I Have a small private pension but not 65,000 thb and i am not in receipt of a state pension yet for another 4 yrs. I do have well over the 800k equivalent in my Bank of Scotland account which I intended to transfer over to Thailand or some of it to cover the 800k. Is getting a triple tourist visa going to be my only option and travelling to and from the UK for the next 4 years. I will have sold my house by the end of June 2015 and then I had hoped not to have to come back to the UK just to go to London Thai embassy. Is this really my only option? My gf thinks all I need is to have 800k in my Kasikorn bank and managers letter, my bank book up to date for 60 days or more. My passport + 2 photos then go to local immigration office and she takes her house book and Thai ID Card. Do you know if she is right or wrong!

  3. My Thai girlfriend helped me open my Kasikorn account April/May 2014. I only had a Tourist Visa from the UK a Royal Thai Consulate. I am not sure if anything has changed over the last 12 months but I do not think it has. Yes I totally agree if anyone! Is going to any Bank to open an account for the first time or to Police Immigration it definately will look far far better in any Thai's eyes if you come to their place of business well dressed (long trousers & and a clean shirt and not shorts and an athletic vest) It does show them a degree of respect. Really it is common sence. I started my account with around 250,000 THB. The amount did not matter as long as you have your ID and your GF has hers.

  4. I agree with Chang paarp my Thai GF helped me open my bank account with Kasikorn bank. My passport, 1000 baht is the minimum u must keep in your account for any length of time to keep it active if you are going back home. My GF had to show her Thai ID Card. I cannot remember if she also took her house book but it was very simple indeed. Our branch is in Trat not Bangkok but I think you will not have too much problem. Let your GF do the talking unless you can speak fluent Thai. Good Luck to you. Oh! No waiting period account was opened there and then. I was given a Bank book in my name only!. Robroy.

  5. Thanks for your quick reply I will take you good advice ubonjoe. I will go to Glasgow Royal Thai Consulate just before I fly to Thailand. I was going to get a triple tourist visa to give me a total stay if 9 months or 270 days now I will apply for the single entry non-o visa instead. What price is this visa based on retirement? After I go to my local police immigration office at LAEM GNOP near Trat? Does this mean I would have to transfer the equivalent of 800k baht from Scotland into my kasikorn bank account after only 1 month of arriving in the country so i will then have money in my bank for the next 2 months then I will qualify for an extension to stay. How long will the extension last for? I was hopeing not! to transfer 800k from the UK until the GBP grew stronger against the baht also in another 6 or 7 months time the baht will devalue even more! If this happens I will then transfer the proceeds of my house sale. When I am back in Thailand living with my Thai girlfriend and I have managed to get an extension visa can I obtain a yellow house book based on retirement at age 61 yrs or must I be over 65? If I can do this where would I go to obtain such a house book and what docs would I need as well as loads of photos and a basic map of how to get to the house. Or would I have to be married to my Thai gf first?

  6. I own a Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback great car but Mitsubishi right across all their range of vehicles have never been built thinking about fuel economy, reliability is very good. You should check out the new nissan navarra double cab. A lovely looking pick up and Nissan have been building pick ups for decades and this one is very nice indeed. You will have to haggle down the price on a nearly new Navarra but if u test drive one you should be very happy. Sorry I cannot remember what the MPG is. Good Luck. Nissan have been building pick ups longer than any other competitor and have really got their engines fine tuned and will last a very long time. You should get a lot of free accessories included and ask for 1 yr free insurance and 1st yr free service this is definately possible if on Finance.

  7. This will be my very first time I have written on this web site. This is for UBONJOE. I would value your help and advice Joe. I am from West Craigs near Hamilton in Scotland, I am 61 yrs old born in Scotland. I have a very nice Thai girlfriend who lives just outside of Trat and is very trust worthy and very family orientated. We have been communicating and living together Since Nov 2013. I have been to Thailand twice so far first time was March-June 2014 on a Single entry Tourist Visa and my 2nd time was Oct 2014 until Feb 2015 Double entry TV. plus I went to Laem Gnop my nearest Police Immigration office 25km fm Trat to get my 30 day extensions (1900 Baht). Laterally I left Thailand after my first 3 months and I went to Cambodia at Hat Yai and then used my 2nd T.V. before re-entering Thailand later the same evening. It was very useful to learn about a re-entry permit for my future trips on holiday into Cambodia. I have decided to sell my house in the UK and retire to Thailand permanently and join the ranks of British expats. Ubonjoe what in your opinion is the best Retirement visa for me to get and how do they work and what do I have to do to obtain a 1 year O A Retirement Visa? I have rang the Royal Thai Embassy in London and as usual the lady could not get me off the phone quick enough (far too busy) impression. I was told I had to travel 800 miles round trip to London to get this retirement visa as I could not obtain it from the Royal Thai Consulate in Glasgow where I go for my Tourist Visa £25 ea. Same day service. In London I was told it will take 24 hours to get visa and the documents I need are: 1. A Medical Certificate. 2. A Police criminal check. from a body I have never heard of, I have never been in trouble with the police for anything in my whole life so this will and should be no problem. 3. A Letter from my local Bank Manager stating my present Bank Balance which will exceed the equivalent of 800,000 Thai Baht required for a retirement visa 1 year O A. I will also ask for 3 or 6 months recent bank account statements all stamped and signed. If the latter is required? just incase. I was told that I have to get all 3 pieces of documentation notarised by a solicitor, is this correct information Joe? I will in the future maybe in 1 year or so get married to my Thai girlfriend but for now I am taking my time to see how things work out in Thailand and I intend to keep most of the proceeds from the sale of my house in my bank in Scotland for this 1st year atleast incase things do not work out, but I will be going over with a positive attitude and I will and I do always welcome and value good sound accurate advice on living in Thailand and especially about Visa's etc. The Lady told me there was another retirement visa which means me having to do 3 month reporting ( now I believe this can be done online? to Laem Gnop? Or to Bangkok Thai Embassy or Immigration? Do I have to pay any money every 3 months for reporting online? If so how much. Which in your opinion is the easiest Visa to get? I was told the O A Visa cost £125. What is the name of the retirement visa reporting every 3 months? and cosy pls. Joe, is it true I will not need to return back to the UK after my 1st year ends? I can ontain another 1 year O A retirement visa in Thailand if true, from where and how much? How long will it take to get the visa? and what docs in Thailand will I need. I already have my own seperate Kasikorn bank account in Trat first opened in April 2014 I intend to transfer around 1 million+ baht from my bank in Scotland in approx 7 months time when the UK Pound is stronger against the baht so I will have my 800k baht equivalent in both banks. Thanks to the many posts on here I have learned that If I get married I will only need 400k in my bank in Thailand or UK? weathered for 2 or 3 months? Correcy me if I am wrong 2 months in my first year and 3 months in my second year? Joe? am I safer to stay single and get a 1 yr O A Visa instead of getting married? I read on here that if my wife died I would have to leave Thailand but if I stay single I would not have to leave Thailand. I am retired and I will not ever be working or start a business as it seems far too much of a hassle and may be very stressful as I hate paperwork, especially visas. I have a small tax free monthly pension in addition to my savings and proceeds from my house in Scotland. Any pension advice and exchange rate tips is very welcome, I am thinking of transferring my pension over to Thailand every 3 or 4 months until the Baht weakens even more. Last March 2014 rate was 1 GBP = 55 THB and 1 yr later it went down to 1 GBP = 47.3 THB. Now it is back up to around 52.1 THB with TORFX and 52.5 with CurrencyFair but sadly they have recently stopped trading in Thai Baht. UK Forex is also around 52.30 I hope this helps anyone wanting to know recent international money exchange rates.Ubonjoe I hope you can find time to answer my questions. Thank You! I remember reading that Thai Visa expat members have their own bar in Bangkok where can I find out the address and contact details pls? Tel No. Etc.

  8. I will be travelling to Thailand to visit my Thai friend/girlfriend who lives in Trat Town. I have been issued with a Thai 60 day Single Entry Tourist Visa by the Thai Consulate in Glasgow, UK. I was going to go to one of the temporary OPEN immigration offices in Bangkok but due to all the unrest and violence my girlfriend has told me I can go to the Police Station in Trat Town a couple of weeks before the 60 day visa expires and they will give me a 30 day extension visa to remain in Thailand until I fly back to Gladgow from Bangkok on the 6th of June 2014. Q. Can anyone please confirm if this is true please? I know I have to pay 1900 THB. I will arrive om the 10th March Stay in a Hotel for 5 nights then Fly to Trat airport on 15th March. I will definately leave on the 6th June 2014. Thank you kindly in advance for any replies given. My first trip to Thailand. Rob Roy.
