  1. Forget the METV for long stay it's just a trap. The easier way to stay in LOS is still the ED VISA. Of course it cost more but you can stay 1 year n Thailand whitout showing any proofs of revenue earned. I live in Pattaya so i know a scholl called Excel Language Centre who offer a 1 year ED Visa with english courses for 17 000 baths. And if you purpose is to stay Thailand only for sunny vacation you don't need to follow the english lesson. Ask the manager when you will apply, she is very comprehensive. You just need to be present when the police immigration come to check. That's all.

And posting that is the exact reason why some visas are getting harder to obtain

    Not very bright are you?

I think he wants to get rid of the competition.

All of his 3 post mention Excel...

  2. Yes that is a good question shadowmaster i will call them again in the morning and ask that as well...... residency versus citizenship.

Will be interesting what they say! There would be a couple of million residents/permanent residents in Australia being foreign passports holders, imagine that all having to go back to their country of citizenship to get a visa for thailand, - what a nightmare.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't somebody already reported back from one of the Laos embassies (Vientiane?) saying that the posted regs say the METV will only be issued to Residents.

    It was me.

Mixed it up with the Non-Imm O....

  3. Farang teachers will not have problem staying in Thailand.

They just get "married", and head to Savannakhet.

Those who are over 50, will go to Pattaya to get a Non-O based on Retirement, with the "help" of a Visa Agent.

you know immigration is making home visits to surprise "married" couples and interrogate neighbors?

    I think they don't do that, if you have a Multi-entry Non-O

So I would have to leave the country every 3 months just to be left in peace with immi?

    Right now: yes.

    But it can change anytime....

  4. However, since the real goal has nothing to do with tourism- it will eliminate long term residents and unfortunately some of these people have wife's and children.

I agree with you about the first part.

    About the second part:

A person whose has a wife, and/or children can apply for a Non-O visa, based on marriage, or taking care of a child.

But not if they have problems meeting the financial requirements of an extension or they are working illegally.

In such cases a trip to Laos for a multi entry visa would at least resolve the visa issue.

I can't speak for others, but if i move to another part of the world to start a family, i would make sure that i have enough funds to take care of them...

  7. A friend of mine came in on an ED visa about 8 months ago. Her first 3 month extension went fine. The last time she went to extend, they only gave her a month. Her school has told her that is all she can expect next time as well. They claim that immigration is clamping down at the moment but will ease up in November. She checked at a nearby school and was told that they are also experiencing the same issues. Has anyone else had recent extension problems?

    Which Immigration office?
