  1. At least 10 YEARS of  road safety ads, including Clunk click, seat belt and various drink driving ads on TV and cinemas, made a lot of difference to the UK statistics.  It is a long term thing though, and costs money.  Eventually it does save money, and lives. Not to mention the horrendous injuries of the survivors.  The idea is to shame the people into following safety advice. We all no nobody likes to be shamed in Thailand. It worked in UK and elsewhere?

  2. Some great tips here to help stop so I thought I would add mine..

Make a pact with a close friend to both stop together

Think of a different reason every day why you want to stop. There are hundreds when you start to think. Also this is a way to really reinforce your reasons for stopping.

    Really want to stop.

Think what it costs per year to smoke let alone a lifetime.

OK so the tax man benefits from smokers but why should we help them .

If you do stop for a year or so then start again (i did) people say it will be harder to stop. I found that as I stopped for a year I also knew I could stop again, and this seemed to help me stop permanently .

  3. I started on a motorbike in the 70s UK and I had the same attitude that I would not die just by going fast and taking chances. I was lucky i had a few scrapes at low speed so no worries.

What changed my attitude really was the continual road safety messages that were on the TV paid for by the government.  These went on for years and when the seat belts were fitted 'Clunk clip' was the slogan that stuck in your mind.  Later the drink drive slogans that seemed to be on tv about 3 times a day brought it home to me and most other people.

Of course this was all backed up by the police by continually enforcing the laws by fines or prison.

I don't think even these things would have changed some people into thinking about safety, but because these things combined and went on for many years, everyone was aware of the outcome of ignoring.

Now of course in UK there are cameras everywhere so if you do something wrong i.e. dangerous you are very likely have to pay for it.

So what I am hoping is someone in government looks at what other countries have done and will realise what action is needed to prevent many people from dying or being injured for life.  Some one could be famous if they took this on.

Dont know if its the same these days, but as a child through Teens religion was forced upon us by means of Sunday School (unofficial free childminding), morning assembly which included Lords prayer and hymns everyday and Religious Education on the timetable which couldnt be swapped out for other subjects.

Yes I was subjected to the free child minding as well so you can understand why I have been an unbeliever since the age of 6

  5. Up to them I suppose, and fair enough if it is reasonable amount more.  But it does not feel too good if you live there and you walk into a shop to buy a hardware item that is marked say 100 bht and shop man say 150. You Falang. Up country not too often charged this extra though, I found

I think a lot depends on how your brain is wired, whether or not as you get older you even can pick up another language.

I grew up bilingual, so could swap between English and Spanish without even thinking.

My first tonal language was Mandarin, which was tough  I think enabled me to get my head around Thai and Lao fairly easily. Curiously Lao came to be easier than Thai, somehow I found it easier to hear the words.

Somewhat similar to Spanish, where obviously I understand everything in Spain, but the Spanish lisp makes the words sound less clipped to me, which is how I find Thai & Lao

Now was understanding Thai & Lao worth it?

Well, obviously it made life easier, but it also makes the absurdities more evident.

Just simple act of watching Thai TV 'news' can leave me shaking my head in despair.

Oh I forgot to add, the writing bit.

Mandarin was really hard to master, and even today after all these years I'm OK in simplified Mandarin, but I really struggle like a small kid with Traditional Mandarin. Thai was OK, it's a alphabet after all

Then you get to the tricky one, Isaan Lao.

This is basically a transliteration of the Lao language using Thai characters, there ain't no dictionary for that, and I can read it when I see it by sounding it out but it's dodgy at best

Great to have this explained in such a clear manner solving several mysteries i.e why Facebook & Google cant seem to translate Issan |-Thai properly

And the democrats are going to keep losing the longer the pandemic plays out if they keep being tyrants and harassing their constituents at the local and state level, sending the police to raid local businesses and homes, perp walking them across in handcuffs with the media blasting it nation wide.

Democrats are horrible tyrants, always have been. The pandemic is making easier to see for most.

And anyone who thinks Trump is the worst political liar ever clearly has done ZERO research into Joe Biden.

That may be because he has done little to warrant any research

Apparently it's a state secret so draw your own conclusions from that. If it makes China look bad then it's secret, if it makes China look good then it's shouted from the rooftops.

There's a guy out there from Wales (Connor Reed) who had this virus at the end of November and I'm sure he wasn't the first case, he lives in Wuhan and contracted the disease a month 'before it existed' based on what they're saying about the market. Connor did a video interview with Sky News which is available online if you google 'Connor Reed Wuhan'.

They're very sneaky and always have been when it comes to covering up Chinese plagues. Lets look back in history a little -nearly every plague came out of China.

People seem to think the 1918 flu originated from the US, the Chinese did a great job of covering up here and even if you now go looking on google you won't find much if you search for '1918 flu China' and there's a reason for that.

They didn't call it 'flu' in China, they called it 'winter sickness'. If you google 'winter sickness 1917' and see what comes up it tells a very different story when compared with a similar search with the word flu in it. It's almost like there's still some kind of cover up going on.

That's not a typo when I mention 1917 for the google search, it was in China a year before the rest of the world which makes sense when you think about it, because that's its origin.

The u.k police are a law only to themselves, most are unfriendly and strong handed and think they are above the u.k law, they love having power over people.I don't like them never have never will. They are there to protect the law not abuse the law.

Well they are the POLICE they were trained to get results to protect the public, so if some members of the public don't want to go along with their policing, they may find the police have to find other methods that produce results to protect the public. After all this is a life and death subject
