  1. Amazing what 2 years in LOS does for you as now I dont give a hoot (to nick someone elses phrase)  :o

Not surprising, it won't be you paying out yet more of their hard earned in, National "it's not really a tax, honest" Insurance.

Ltd. companies = double NI too.

At least I made £50 betting on the result :D

UK economy is moving to recession double-quick, time to move forward exit plans.

  2. There is an old thread on the forum, can't remember details, but it had a link to Thai customs & excise web site, which is informative. The search facility here is pretty good.

For luxuries it is about 60%. Whether beer qualifies as a luxury is a good question.

Import taxes are generally high to Thailand, which is why computers, cars, non-thai spirits etc are prohibitively expensive.

Let us know what you find out if u like, I had a similarish idea :o

  3. My 2 cents, no bargains to be found in Thailand. Not sure why, I think maybe mainly imported h/ware and taxed. Like cars.

Have a look at Micromart when in the UK, or I hear there's some new fangled gubbins called the "internet" with "search engines" and so forth. It'll never catch on.

  4. Sat, having breakfast, on Samui some years ago. A tropical bird landed on my table, sang a birdsong like none ever heard in Europe, sun beating down, huge black thunderclouds gathering in the west, something different, totally different, to anything I ever knew before. Was the 1st visit. Took my mate next time, now he's the same. Jungle fever I call it. Money, lack of teaching ability and un-willingness to live poor, forces me to spend too much time in Europe though.

  5. You gamblers there should already know this. Whether it be blackjack, roulette, slots, baccarat or craps, the odds are ALWAYS in the house's favour. You play long enough, you'll lose everything. The (very) few that walk away with more than they started with are either very smart, or very lucky.

Not strictly true with Blackjack, if you can: a. count, b. quit when you're up, c. combine a+b with not being thrown out. Though can't see single deck being implemented in Thailand.

I'm all for a casino. Why should the majority be punished for the stupidity of the minority? Logically, if you think casinos should be banned because some people can't handle gambling then alcohol should be banned too.

I will be there for the opening week if it ever happens, and just sit back with a beer and watch the chaos that ensues, you won't be able to get near a table anyway! :o

  6. You should also consider what kind of VPN you are going to use. For example, a product such as Citrix provides ( http://www.citrixonline.com/ ) has min system specs / opsys, dunno what they are off the top of my head. I'm guessing you don't intend to generate VPN on a router or concentrator.

Also suggest that setting up a remote accessed, VPN generating Linux box is quite an advanced project, though it would be the optimal solution.

  7. Most b/width testers are un-reliable to say the least. Can you trace to the server in question? You might then be able to identify if you have a local contention issue or an international peering point issue (by far the most likely culprits).

  8. I would potentially be interested in acting as a conduit for ebay distribution in the UK. Not really for my own enrichment, I do quite well as a contractor, but to make business contacts in los in anticipation of my "return to los", and I guess to help out those "living the dream" (I had to come back after a year due to 1. Having no money & 2. Being a rubbish English teacher).

Any business propositions can be emailed to [email protected]. Of course, I will not accept any financial liability on my part, and do have limited time due to full-time employment.

I think of particular interest at this time would be MP3 sunglasses: http://oakley.com/catalog/eyewear/thump/

I hope this is in-line with forum rules, if not I apologies in advance.

    Thanks

  9. Hi,

I'm currently back in the UK making money, after a year in los, planning & plotting my way back natch.

I noticed this snippet in Digger's post: "...get the condo under foreign ownership rules."

Perhaps someone could elaborate on this? Specifically:

Can I invest in / *own* property in Thailand from a foreign Ltd company?

Does it make a difference where said company is incorporated?

And any general info / links on foreign ownership would be appreciated.

    Thanks
