I've not heard about a complete overhaul of the Pajero and a complete new generation to be launched next year. I doubt it since this model has just recently launched and is selling well, a lot better than the Ford Everest.

They had the top spot before the Revo as well.

Based on my experience not much has changed. Recently did the anual renewal on my father-in-law's pick up and it seems to be the same process as previous years

Yes you can. Just push the right hand button group of 3 on the dash that's level with the drivers door armrest. 'A light comes up on dash to say it's been disconnected' It'll go off for the duration of trip, but will reset to on if you turn off the engine. The other way of doing it is not to leave it in gear when you stop at say T/Lights with foot brake on.
Thanks for this. Don't understand why they develop things like this. Surely most customers don't want it.

Well for some 500.000 THB is a lot of money. For others it is really not that much.
Personally, I find it good value. Like I also sometimes like to go to a fancy restaurant and spend my money on expensive wine and food. We all have and make choices in life. A lot based on our financial situation.
If I see a guy driving a Super Car, I do not see this as a waste of money for the guy owning and driving the car. Obviously he can afford it and I would not mind driving one myself (that is if I could). That does in my eyes not make him an idiot. It just makes him richer than me :-)
Agree. It's more about choices you make. And if there would be a cheaper option which would give me nearly the same visa benefits, I would go for it. But if you are below 50, those options are very limited to say the least. Frankly the SETV/METV visa is not an option, the Education route neither, marriage visa is no option. So you can look into work permits, investment visa or TE. TE is by far easiest and safest option in my opinion.

I hope you can override somehow the engine idling stop system. I mean surely unless you have a hybrid engine, this is complete rubbish in Thailand.

Money to burn eh ?
Why would you spend 500,000 baht when you can achieve the same results for less than 10,000 (5×1900)
when the global economic bubble bursts you might be glad of that 490,000 which will buy you an awful lot of VIP services:giggle:
I'm below 50 so the retirement visa option is not available to me. Hence I went for the 5 year TE option simply because it will get me closer to when I'm eligible and it's a timeline I somehow have a view on where I am and what I am doing.
Once my TE visa expires I will revisit options available. Right now I would probably go for the 20 yr TE option or look at the new 10 year visa the government is introducing.
Hope this helps you understand my rationale.

I couldn't agree more with khunpa's comments before. It's definitely a worthwhile investment. Aside from the 'peace of mind' about staying in Thailand, you get a great 'VIP' service every time you travel in/out of Thailand.
I got it mainly because I'm not eligible yet for the retirement visa but even once I am, I think I will just renew the Thailand Elite membership.

Thanks PP
So it's expensive enough one wants to know the incidence.
I just looked this up from The Nation, CM had a prevalence of 40.77 per 100,000 from Jan to July, I guess that's 80 per 100k per annum......although the mosquito prevalence probably varies thru the year........but ballpark under 1/1000 chance p.a.
At this rate I wouldn't consider a vaccine, specially at only 65% efficacy.
The strange thing is, I'm at a table with four of us, all been here average 15 years. One person been infected once one person twice, so three infections, two mild, one very bad experience. I certainly have other expat friends been infected.
Hmmmm.....

That statistic doesn't capture all the cases that get misdiagnosed as flu/cold or all those that don't go to hospital. I think the risk is quite high that you get it at some point when you live here longer. Just hope you don't get the severe dengue version. Personally I will get the vaccine.

Is one less liable to get dengue when older?
Based on news and statistics I have seen from Singapore, you are equally at risk when older.

Against all odds we ordered the 4wd in black today.
In Phuket they only have the 4wd in white with a black roof (which i dont like) at the dealer near Central and a black 4wd at Pearl near Bypass road. From today only the white one is still available.
Toyota is introducing a slightly adjusted version in 2-3 months so the current one is not being produced anymore. The adjusted TRD version will come some time after the adjusted normal version is introduced (they do the introduction in sequence).
We got a decent discount on the car which made it okay to get the 4wd even though i expect to barely use it.
Alternatively we would have to wait 4+ months while we will need the car by the end of next month.
Thanks all for the input given here.
Thanks for sharing. Do you know what changes they will make to the new model?

I am also thinking of buying a small SUV (Crossover how some brands call them).
Why?- because I like the look of SUV's (and also a small one looks like a SUV)
- because I not want spend the money 1.6 million up for the cheapest SUV till about little bit over 3 million, where "small SUV" are about by 1 Million with already nice comfort
- because a "real" big SUV also use more space, more difficult to find parking space and my wife would never drive with a big SUV whereas with a "small" one she maybe would drive from time to time.
I will think about next year when I have the plan to buy one. At the moment I like the Honda HRV. And actually I even think interior looks better than the bigger CRV... but this everybody to themselve.
Of course there are many nice SUV's available.. but compared the price of 3 million to 1 million it's not worth in my mind. But still also looking bigger SUVs till about max of 2 million baht.
Maybe wait for Toyota to launch the CH-R instead of the Honda HR-V. If you like small SUVs.

@ revar
thanks for those details. The pig food pricing looks good. I think I can transport food from around Bangkok to Kalasin for about 18-20 baht per pack. So still looks reasonable.
The issue for me would be that I can sell back the pig at a decent price.
Just out of interest, does Perfeqc kill pigs/sell meat themselves? Just asking because I've never heard them doing this.
-
@revar many thanks for those details. really appreciate it.
I have some follow up questions:
Regarding your schedule, I'm not 100% clear. So when you say
911 x 0.1 means 0.1 x one pack of 911?
912 x 0.5 means half a pack of 912 per pig?
913 x 30 means what? 3 pack of 913?
914 x 20 means 2 pack?
916 x 10 means 1 pack?
About buying back pigs, I read in an earlier comment from you that you sell back to Perfecq directly for 50+ pigs at CP price or better. So if I have a batch of 70+ pigs and feed them Perfecq food, you cannot sell them back to Perfeqc?
Many thanks.

@thoong. feed, would be bagged the day before at the factory. shelf life on bag is 90 days. At my own farm i do however regularly use thefeed, which i didnt sell and is over date. dry storage is criticle though. moisture can make, it go bad fast.
delivery prices are somewhat different per chaufeur. the factory is near bangkok and, cost to khorat is around thb5500-6000 for instance.
piglet and pigsales to the, company are, not dependant on location but do require minimal batch sizes of 50-100 depending on your location. they also require certain standards in hygiene, medication use, feeding etc and, your farm would be regularly visited by a vet.
@robert. il post figures, tomorrow.
And i got a wife, son, his gf and, a nephew helping out on the farm and, delivering feed.
son, gf and nephew live in our house in town ( we live at the farm) and we, all eat together. its becoming a family business and many hands make light work.
especialy since im constantly trying to improve efficiency. recently doubled the power of my automatic pump used for cleaning and, that alone, halved, cleaning time.
So I do have, workers, but no salery, costs, thanks revar for those details. Understand you are a family business and great to see you have a lot of support given the size of your business.
In addition to the quote for the pig food for 320 bags +, can you let me know if I have a batch of around 70 pigs, would you buy them back at CP price? Just asking because my next batch which I'm starting this month has 71 pigs.
many thanks.

To Jompa,
iv had similar experiences with perfeqc , betagro, spm and, other suppliers. these experiences, were one of, the main reasons, i jumped, at the chance to become a perfeqc supplier myself. i can trust myself;)
batches of 50+ piglets i can sell to perfeqc, not to a, feed supplier. they got holding farms, for those from which they will sell the piglets to their customers. prices are the official published prices.
Batches of 50+ finished pigs, fed on perfeqc feed only ( no mixing) according to my feed program are sold to exporters. contacts go through perfeqc head office not directly. prices are usualy at or even just above cp price. this,is,however less, sure. wev run into import stops,in china and cambodia several times because,of news about sicknesses,in thailand.
Your calculations seem ok to me.
What i do is take sow/gilt feed costs ( including costs when pigletsare suckling), ai costs, vaccines, meds electricity, water, etc and divide that by the number of sows. then i calculate, with 2.2 litters,of 10 piglets year and, allocate those, costs to piglets.
This, results at, a cost of around, thb1200 at 15 kg. i dont have, workers, so that kinda, explains, the, difference with your costs. ( i use retail prices not my, actual gross, prices for this, calculation).
One other thought. being a, perfeqc supplier i can arrange for trucks of 320 bags to be, delivered to any farm in thailand at discounts of 10-15 bath a bag from retail price depending on feed type and amount.
( basicly, we split the, difference between gross and, retail;)
At delivery you would, have to pay, for the truck and arange for ofloading yourself. payment would be made to my bank and i would pay inteqc.
I can arange this for anyone who can handle deliveries,of 320,640, etc.
Sorry for the sales pitch but it looks, like, a, win win. if, anyone wants, i can post prices for delivery to the, farm at 320 bag batches.
Yes I'd be interested to see your prices for 320 bags+. Can you share?
You mention you don't have workers? Can you explain how you manage it?
Thanks.

Contact information
Wanphen Farm
+66 890014266
We have been a customer to perfeqc feed supplier for 1,5 year now and they promise a lot but keep very little. What we need is end customer not the sharks. After a lot of pressure, we got contact information to someone that buy for market price minus 100 bath (shark). We talked a few times with him and he seams good. We just need to call him a few days in advance. Great a deal... But when the times come he had a lot of excuses and start pressing the price down and when when he relaise that we will not sell on hes terms he start to talk with an "ugly" language to my wife.
Perfect have customer that can buy our piglets but every time we ask for contact information to end customer, they come up with fantasy prices. The say, there is farms selling piglets for 1000 bath. Maybe there is someone with low cash-flow that are in need of money. Nobody can make money on such low price. Other people in the business warning us and say that the reason is probably "side-business" from sells-men from our food supplier. I don't know what to believe but something is terribly wrong
Why is't there a market place where buyer and seller can meet??????
Here is some calculationsSow medical Days Kg food/day 150.00 Seamen 150.00 Gestation feed 125 2.20 3,575.00 Lacation feed 28 9.00 3,780.00 7,655 Per Litter Average Weaned 10.5 Sow Feed Cost/Piglet 729 Piglet vaccine cost 199 Creepfeed & milk 50 Tot per weaned piglet 978 bath
Fixed cost per monthWorker 1 9,000 THB Worker 2 9,000 THB Worker 3 9,000 THB Worker 4 9,000 THB Worker 5 9,000 THB Maintenence 10,000 THB Electricity 25,000 THB Salary 0 THB Car 2,000 THB Disel 6,000 THB Mortage 48,000 THB 136,000 THB
136 000 / 330 piglets = 412 bath per piglet. Then add the cost for piglet 978 bath.
A profession farm with loan from a bank will have a minimum cost of 1300 - 1400 bath per piglet. Keep in mind that this is without salary to us and a company needs to make profit. Then the numbers will be even higher.
The only way to increase the margins is to have more piglets or cut in the vaccine program.
This is the number i came up with. You guys maybe have a different view. Please comment.
Any contact information to potential customer is appreciated or any kind of help.
Just out of interest. What do you mean with market minus 100 baht? You mean the CP announced price - 1 baht?

OK, try this. About 6 months ago, my good friend was looking for a new SUV as the family car and his wife apparently had the hots for the Fortuner. I mentioned that our friendship going back several decades and predating either of our adventures in LOS would be imperiled if he chose a 'tuna but regrettably his wife seemed adamant. We both agreed that sometimes that's just the way it has to be, shook hands and parted.
Yesterday he called my using the SYNC 3 connection on his brand new Everest.
Well to start with there is something wrong if your wife decides which car you have to buy.

Incorrect.
The newly released Honda CRV,2017, top of the range, can be fitted an extra two seats (7) but the luggage area, when in operation, is greatly reduced. It also comes in a new diesel version with heaps of extras. Just like driving a luxury car only with the advantages of four wheel drive. Also fits in the OP's price range of 1.8M. Drove one the other day and in my opinion, is far superior to the common everyday vehicles that we see on the roads here. Highly recommended.
They are nice cars and good to see they have a Diesel version now. Plenty of new tech features. You may like or not like the design. The back looks like a copy from a Volvo to be honest. In terms of size it is still quite small. I reckon best to use for 1-2 people. The CRV is definitely no option if you regularly need to transport 7 people.

If I understand you correctly space + decent 7 seater is important, then I would exclude any of the smaller cars. CRV, Xtrail, Mobilio etc. Even in a bigger SUV the space is limited if use seat 6+7. To be honest seat 6+7 in a SUV like fortuner/Everest are more meant for Children./Emergency seats. And if you use them, space for luggage is limited.
If you need to transport 7 people regularly, a van is better. I.e Toyota Alphard, Hyundai H1

Petrol one 2.7 starts at 1.549.000bt 2.4G M/T start at 1.229.000. Bit of a difference for more fuel costs.
And petrol one only makes sense here if you convert to use LPG or you have a hybrid. Hybrid isn't available and LPG conversion is not my thing. So by far best to use the robust Diesel engines.

Again, the Everest is not an option due to the horrific track record of customer service.
Even with a huge discount I would not buy a car without decent maintenance options, let alone pay similar or more than the Toyota.
Agree with you. You may like the design+ interior of the Ford but reliability and servicing remains an issue.

Pajero and Everest - Power ELECTRIC steering and T-shape cockpit comfort(any Pajero Owners?)

Maybe take a look at the Fortuner as well. Not saying you have to buy it but if you research the main SUV models, I would certainly look at it too. I have the previous Fortuner model (2014) and I'm quite happy with it.
With to the PJS and Everest, I would add the following additional points to consider:
- PJS: Design good except from the back. But either you love it or you don't. Personally I find long lights ugly. Has most safety features compared to the Everest and Fortuner. Price/value very good. Considerably cheaper than the Fortuner or Everest.
- Everest: weight. A lot heavier than the PJS and Fortuner. And as a result uses a lot more diesel than the others.
Hope this helps
