After one tourist visa and four visa exemt entries in 2022: On the sixth entry at BKK airport the imm lady told me it was the last time to enter without visa. And I had been in Europe for a month. After I asked her details she got angry and called her superior to question me. In the end I got my sixth entry after some questioning and showing ticket out after two weeks. I told I was married to a Thai but did not stay long as I work in Europe so had no visa. They advised me to get visa for future entries. Just as a warning as it seems to me they are making it more difficult to take frequent trips.

Getting compulsory insurance and tax in Bangkok DLT Chatuchak?
martin81 replied to CanNot's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
You do not have to go to DLT. Many places in Thailand they have offices and vehicle inspection shops that does it all including insurance for a small extra fee of 50 to 100 baht. You can probably pick up the papres the next day. I did it upcountry for a car with Bangkok plates. Very easy. -
Was it the phone scam where they tell they are police or something? Common in Thailand and other countries and some people are stupid enough to transfer their money to an account belonging to a voice in their phone. Please report in the hope that the scammers will go to jail.

Urgent - there is no A negative in Thailand for transfusion s.
martin81 replied to Speedhump's topic in Health and Medicine
For platelets I believe blood type is not so important. I had a platelet transfusion of another blood type because of cancer treatment. I have A-, but cannot give transfusion because of cancer and other things. But of course the platelets have to be very clean so it has no red bloodcells mixed in. And also the plasma. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiwyfr4o4_8AhXng_0HHVi6A6UQFnoECC8QAw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fashpublications.org%2Fhematology%2Farticle%2F2020%2F1%2F512%2F474292%2FDoes-ABO-and-RhD-matching-matter-for-platelet&usg=AOvVaw2EejehR9zDFhfJ2uk-Sjmg -

Advice sought re 'self-destructing' eyeglass lenses
martin81 replied to Toolong's topic in General Topics
Yes I mean a shop within Lotos complex. I earlier bought ok cheap spectacles at Lotus's complex Pattaya on Sukhumwit road going towards Sattaheep. Lasted long. Simple uncoated glass or plastic lens. Do not remember the name of the shop. But not one of the expensive chains. -
Marrying a 17 year old Thai girl in the village
martin81 replied to Adumbration's topic in Marriage and Divorce
I married my thai wife of many years when she on paper were 17 and 10 months old and I was 23. The parents signed for it at amphoe office and no problems. Because of error in her papers she was actually 18 but 17 was her official age. That is perfectly legal in Thailand with parents consent. -
Advice sought re 'self-destructing' eyeglass lenses
martin81 replied to Toolong's topic in General Topics
Just buy the cheapest glasses at lotus or so. No problems with defect coating. Last years. I once bought some expensive glasses in Thailand and they quickly became like you describe. Maybe I just used wrong tissue to clean them. -
I paid around 10K baht for chest CT with contrast in private hospital in smaller town in northern Thailand. Just for you to compare.

Departure ticket to get visa exempt
martin81 replied to Druidian's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Qatar air still has fully refundable tickets until Sep. 30. Just buy one at Qatar Air website out of BKK and get a refund to your CC if you don't need it. -
Tourist e-visa application
martin81 replied to WideWheels's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Gerard. Just book a hotel for one night that is refundable at Agoda or elsewhere and use that to show where you stay. You can just refund it if not needed. That's what I did. Just write hotel name in invitation. Nothing else needed for stay as long as it is not a STV visa. Just apply for normal TR visa or TR multiple 60 days. Pattaya is not a Province. Its called Chonburi province. Proof of financials could be paycheck or pension slip or bank statement. -
Tourist e-visa application
martin81 replied to WideWheels's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You are probably applying for wrong type of Visa STV (Special Tourist Visa) for 90 days. Very tough requirements. You need the Tourist TR visa for 60 days. But you still need to prove where your home is. It could be a bank statement or utility bill. Price around 1200 Baht for Visa. -
Hotels are private. It seems to me they take whatever price they want. There are so many discounts to be found on Agoda and others so at the moment very cheap rates can be found if clearing cookies first. But of course some hotels would be happy to charge extra for foreigners. But today there is so much competition among hotels in Thailand that it will be difficult.

This is just talk from Anutin. He does not control prices at hotels, restaurants and private hospitals. They are privately owned businesses and set their own prices. Last year I staid both at tourist palces and not tourist palces over most of Thailand and even at Phuket Pating I could get a good hotel room with breakfast for 500 to 800 baht. Which is very cheap compared to most of the world. Prices are low at many hotels as there are still too few tourists and also too few local Thais travelling around.

I downloaded the app In-Driver and got to BKK airport from Sukhumwit soi 8 to airport for 291 Baht late night. Bolt and Grab were around 400 to 550 Baht. It was a normal taxi but did not turn on meter as already agrred to 291 Baht. Toll fee was 25 + 50 b = 75 b. I gave him a tip of around 30 baht for good service.

I'm not tipping anymore I don't give a
martin81 replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In upcountry Thailand I feel tipping is not expected at smaller restaurants. I think tipping at smaller restaurants is a tourist thing. I often tip smaller amounts at tourist places. Mostly I think ti is appreciated even if only 10 baht. Never tipped for laundry. -
An Stv is a special tourist visa for 90 days. Maybe you mean TR tourist visa for 60 days that is very easy to obtain.

Actually Qatar air tickets are fully refundable until end of September. So just buy a one-way out of Thailand on QR and get a refund after arrival. They did ask me about a ticket out at check-in after I flew on one-way ticket in May to BKK. I had one to show them. Or maybe cheaper for you to buy a Qatar air return ticket and just get a refund for the unused part.

Overseas car licence to operate a rental car, tourist visa
martin81 replied to Dan123's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Easy to get IDP in most countries. Valid 1 year. Thai police like to look at it. Also some rental companies require IDP for tourists. -

Just make another one for the next flight to be sure. If you have the papers then easy to make again. -
Is Visa needed for Thai Pass?
martin81 replied to borderbouncer's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes. You need a Thailand Pass. Not a visa for up to 30 days depending on your nationality.
