  1. Hiya,
I'm heading over to Phuket soon for a working holiday and now I'm over 40 I'd like to look into getting my Testosterone levels checked and managed.
Can anyone with any experience in the this tell me where I should start?
    Thanks :)

Odd that, my personal experience of bail repayment says otherwise.  What was the outcome of your bail refund request being denied and why was it denied?

not denied, delayed until tourist visa expired, happened to everyone in the group on a tourist visa (around 20 of us) at the time. Not even mad, I chalk it up to idiot tax and it taught me a valuable lesson which saved me a lot more money in the future

News from someone who went to Koh Phangan police station today to help arrested friends to pay their bail:

"Everyone's going to need to pay fines (Bail is 10,000 and fine will be delivered in Samui tomorrow for 5000) and produce their Passports."

Nice little earner that one, no chance that anyone on a tourist visa will get their bail money returned before their visa expires.

  4. PS just out of curiosity how does one 'return Ritalin'?

Just give it back to the doctor. I also returned the Paxil and when they supplied me with Stablon they compensated the price difference, didn't expect that really but didn't want to leave the meds at home either.

Makes sense. Not had much to do with the medical community here (knock wood) so wasn't sure how things worked.

You may be the first person to have ever had a return accepted in Thailand though so make a wish :)

  5. Pity it's not North West. Australia would cop it then, and THEY might do something about it.

Truth. We'd have the whole thing fixed by lunch time.

I heard Malaysian officials are blaming scantily clad tourists for making the gods angry and have enlisted a crack division of Bomoh armed with bamboo binoculars to find and punish the culprits.

  6. The NE monsoon should be blowing in by then...hopefully. Once it starts, haze is blown back into Indo.

Usually arrives at the end of Oct ,early Nov.

Very rare to be delayed beyond that timeframe.

I am super relieved to hear that, this has been on the calendar for months would hate to have to cancel. Thanks and much appreciated

  7. Hi, I'm attending the monthly meditation retreat at the I.D.C. next to Wat Suan Mokkh (in forest around Surat Thani/Chaiya) on 1st-10th November, just how bad is this pollution, i.e. is it possible it may be cancelled due to its severity?

I ask on TV because the centre isn't very good at keeping up with correspondence and there's nothing on the net regarding announcements or Forum chat.

    Cheers

  8. I know of only 1 and its been taken of the shelves in other countries. It did help a bit though. You can get it in some pharmacies it contains sibutramine. But google the stuff frist and check if its worth the risk.

That stuff was withdrawn from the US market in 2010.

That should be a good enough reason NOT to take "sibutramine" even if it can be found in Thai pharmacies.

Also most of these stimulants are precursors to street drugs like yaba hence the government's enthusiasm to rid them from the marketplace.

As with all things, some can use them responsibly (Dorian Yates a good example if you look into his strict routine despite how it may look to an outsider) whilst others end up in hospitals, mental institutions or even the morgue (Zyzz for example) due to mismanagement of their routines.

I remember that phenphen stuff getting banned pretty quick smart but not before it took out a lot of casualties on the way.

Caveat Emptor... let the buyer beware. With every day seeing me one step closer to middle age I'm seriously disturbed by the cavalier attitude that young men and women have towards steroids and stimulants in the quest for the ideal physique. Not saying it's a death sentence but surely a bit of blood work and medical supervision could help prevent a mischief or at least ensure they can still produce testosterone naturally by their 30th birthdays.

    But hey.. YOLO right?

  9. Good source on fasting is "Grain Brain" by Dr. Perlmutter. He is a neurologist and he is curing migraines, autism and diabetes by changing the diet.

The book is easy to read finished it in one day while on a visa run smile.png

Dr Perlmutter is doing great work with neurodegenerative diseases. He's getting massive resistance from proponents of the Standard American Diet but I've no doubt he's going to come out on the right side of history.

  10. Phentermine (sibutramine seems pretty similar but no experience with it) is the most effective appetite suppressing drug but is very similar to amphetamines. You may need to use sleeping pills to overcome the insomnia it creates which is a fast track to renal failure if used on a long term basis.

I doubt many doctors in LOS would prescribe it and dodgy chemists caught selling it risk massive consequences if caught.

  11. The stuff that your body eats during fasting is caleld ketones. They are substituting the glucose. That state is called ketosis.

Instead of doing it for 5 days. You can do it permanently. Google nutritional ketosis.

    Here's a link: http://eatingacademy.com/nutrition/ketosis-advantaged-or-misunderstood-state-part-i

And no it's not about calories. You can eat 4000 kcal and still be in a "fasting state".

Sure but even in ketosis you need to burn more as you take in. Ketosis is no magic bullet the same rules apply, it can be useful for people who are insulin resistant. I have tried it all, and believe me there is no magic diet and a balanced diet with carbs (complex ones) is good too.

Most people I know (there are probably exceptions) find reaching and staying in ketosis a problem as it does affect your mental abilities (at first you get used to it later and you keep urinating ect) Its just not for everyone.

I did a few times a 1 day fast (completely no food) and then the next day normal food. It was hard but doable but not really something I like. I prefer to eat healthy with vegetables and fruits and some carbs and proteins and healthy fats and have loads of energy.

The difference with ketogenic dieting is that you're fuelling your resting metabolic rate off stored /dietary fats instead of glycogen. Considering an average RMR sits around 2000kcals per day it's a much more effective way to burn fat than trying to increase your caloric expenditure through exercise while reducing your caloric intake with diet.

  12. It is an amphetamine pure and simple. You must decide for yourself whether the benefits outweigh the side effects as there's no free lunch in nature, what goes up must come down. My advice would be just to take it until you get your act together as it's not a good idea to take amphetamines long term.

  13. I just asked a monk what evidence there was to suggest that consciousness survives after death and his answer was that they do not require evidence, rather that unlike science, in Buddhism the burden of proof was to prove it doesn't exist so they are not concerned with proving it.

    Pretty unsatisfying answer, bit disappointed...

    why did you expect proof?

To put it in context here's the question as I put it:

Bhante, I was raised Christian and and asked to rely on faith so have become cynical beyond anything I can't experience first hand. If rebirth is a fact and Buddhism the way to not waste this incarnation how can one know this to be true without relying on faith before committing to a lifetime of practice?
