there is NOTHING wrong with this mp3 player.

I'd admit the return service sucks, but that goes for everything in Thailand.

So nothing wrong, but you have had occasion to send it back ?? Or are you generalising about service in Thailand generally

As for my opinion, it was only garnered from other users of the "gadget" Maybe you have a later version

But still, at 6,500 bht "meur song" its not for me. How about 5000 bht straight ?

  2. One major drawback to alot of these MP3 players, I think, is the unremovable battery. So, once the battery dies you have to buy a new one.

Anyway, I am off home end of next month and will be checking it out, I'll give a review then!

Can another battery be fitted into the player when it dies, can I not send it back to the manufacturers and obtain a new battery............wow, that really is built in obsolescence

Is it the ame with all MP3 players, ipod et al

  3. I'm selling a Creative Labs Zen Micro 5GB MP3 player with all those features. As new, still with box and all. Was 13,000 in Tukcom less than a year ago. Selling for 6,500. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it was hardly used, hence selling it rather than let it collect dust. I'm in Pattaya.

    Details from the box:

Holds up to 2,500 songs on 5GB hard drive :: up to 12 hour battery life :: FM radio :: Voice recording :: Vertical touch pad :: Micro sized (3.3” tall, 2” wide, 0.7” deep) :: USB 2.0 :: Address book, Calendar and To Do List :: Wired Remote

Original package including white earphones :: Removable rechargeable Li-Ion battery :: Power adaptor :: USB 2.0 cable :: Belt-clip & stand :: Pouch :: Installation CD :: Neck strap.

Was briefly tempted by its looks but after looking at customer opinions of this product I would have to advise to give this product a wide berth, there are umpteen problems with the hardware upgrade, with the system locking up, poor connecting headphones and worst still, a very poor returns service from Creative..........looks like you bought a dud one which is exactly what I am trying not to do

    Thanks, but no thanks

  4. Stay away from the cheap no-name Taiwanese brands that populate Pantip and the like. They always crash playing Mp3's with weird bit rates and ID3V2 tags as I've learnt.

I'm looking for something flash based around the 1GB mark like this

Sandisk model. It's $120US in the US, about double the price here.

Love to hear from anyone else a recommendation too.

There are lots of 1gb flash drives available, approx 5000 to 8000 bht plus.

check here for list of shops selling them in Thailand

hope it helps, but I prefer a small hard disk model for ease of use

  5. Hi All

I am looking to buy an MP3 player and have seen the MPIO HD200 5 gigabyte mp3 player with voice recorder, fm radio and can be used as an external hard disk for just 8,500 bht.

The reviews I have read online suggest the unit itself is very good but the navigational buttons are a little illogical but I figure I can figure that out.

Does anyone have one of these players and what other devices are available at a similiar price in Thailand

Thanks as always for your advice

  6. Kazaa Lite was a good version and still works very well but its hard to find a good version.

Limewire is good but Limewire Pro is better and you can upload it for free using Limewire basic program. But beware, there are umpteen viruses on Limewire and its so easy to forget to check each file you download with a virus killer program first.

I prefer Bearshare Pro. It seems to have better searching and quick quick downloads with far fewer viruses and spyware to worry about

Soon I want to give DC++ a try on my machine especially as it is based on local hosts. Is it really true we cannot discuss this program anymore as I have heard it can be a real bother to set up at first

  7. Hi

I just returned from the dentist and was quoted a price of 30,000 bht for 6 porcelain crowns for my bottom, back teeth which seemed a little expensive by thai standards especially when it was porcelain veneers I wanted for my front teeth to enhance my smile/appearance.

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between crowns and veneers and could anyone recommend a quality dental practise which offers a more affordable service in the Phuket, Surat Thani and Chumphon regions of Thailand

  8. Hi everyone

My friend is in the process of packing up and returning home to the USA. He has contacted the post office to see how much it would cost to send his stuff back and they have quoted a price of approx 3700 bht to send 20 kg by land and sea which will take about 3 months

What other alternatives are there to use. My friend is in the South of Thailand and would prefer to know that there is a dhl service available to him or a similiar alternative because the post offices method of delivery is very slow and not without risks of loss or theft

    Thanks for your advice

    JAF

EMS Courier by using the Post Office will cost approx Baht8,000 and delivered in 5 days MAX and must be signed for.

DHL 25kg Jumbo Box will cost Baht5,500 and again must be signed for.

Thanks, my friend is interested in the DHL service

How does one go about organising a pickup from DHL in the south of Thailand. Are there any agents in the vicinity of Phuket and Chumphon that he could contact to take care of the business

    Cheers

  10. Be very careful with TOT free internet. I set it up for my thai friend last week and tried to connect. After 50 attempts on redial it finally connected. This went on for days and when the telephone bill came, it was over 1200 bht when their bill is normally around 400-500 bht. Yep you guessed it, they charged them for every connection attempt

TOT and TTandT will often pad out your bill using this method and because their is no real itemised bill (only a dot matrix printout if you pester the local office), you will often not notice this scam.

Remember..........When something seems to good to be true, its because it often is

  11. I personally use Blaze Media Pro to convert and enhance movies that I download, it is excellent and produces remarkable results. Although its not free, you can download a trial version from the official website and if you are a clever boy, go to a keygen site and install a working exe which removes the trial limitations

PM me if you want further info on how to do this

  12. I know Chumphon well and it has its good and bad points but overall it is a desirable place to live in my opinion. The main square of the town is hot, dirty, dusty and confusing to navigate at first but that is because it is jam packed with all sorts of Ma n Pa stores. There is a supermarket located next to KFC but it is nowhere near as good as Tesco Lotus or Big C but there is an ongoing rumour that Tesco Lotus will open a place there sometime in the near future.

Just outside of town you will find that life is far quieter and more picturesque. There are many beaches around Chumphon and the water is crystal clear and so nice to bathe and swim in. The beaches sadly are becoming more scruffy and unkempt but it is mostly litter and flotsam swept in from the ocean which they could easily tidy if they organised a proper volunteer force i.e. the locals who live and work there.

The people are very friendly and polite and the ladies of Chumphom are also very beautiful but it is honest relationships you will have to strike up as its not the type of place that encourages prostitution, basically everyone knows everyone else or is in some way related through friends and family but don tlewt that fool you into thinking there are not a lot of people, there is but because they are friendlier everyone associates with each other on one level or another

If you want to know more you can always pm me and I will be glad to tell you more

  13. I think it just advertises them as a target for some idiot to rob them - many women have been assaulted and robbed , some suffering serious injury or death in the process , for the gold they are wearing.

Yes thats quite true although is it an idiot who steals the gold or the person who is advertising the fact that they are wearing something so easily stolen.........guess the same things could be said about ipods and even the latest training shoes........but I digress

What I really want to know is your opinion of whether you think it is classy or classless to wear gold nowadays. What is your perception of people who wear gold on a day to day basis. Does it elevate their status or enhance their appearance. Do the hi so set wear gold everyday or is it something that the lower class wear to purport that they have lots of money.........these are the opinions I am hoping to hear

    Cheers

  14. Hi

I would really like to know the opinions of both thais and farangs as to what they think about people, or moreso thai ladies wearing considerable amounts of gold ie a 1 bht bracelet and a 1 bht necklace on a regular day to day basis. Do you think that it exudes class or do you think that it cheapens the person or do you have any other opinions of your own that you would like to share with me.

Any and all opinions are appreciated

  15. Well I was the one who originally posted the www address and I have updated my windows using it. So now I have access to ALL window update files and not just critical updates and it all works perfectly well.

I have checked my machine using Trend Micro housecall, AVG Antivirus, Spybot search and destroy, Ad Aware Pro and Microsoft Anitspyware............. and it shows no infections or spyware installed whatsoever. So the easiest and simplest way to update your windows is through the website mentioned in my initial posting and as mentioned by Guilo, it links DIRECTLY to the windows website but without the hassle of windows verification.

    Happy New Year

  16. One thing that might help is trying a different media player on your PC.

It definitely won't solve everything, but everyone who uses their PC to watch movies should have a copy of VLC Player (www.videolan.org) and/or BS Player (http://www.bsplayer.org) installed IMO.

You should consider upgrading your pc dvd drive firmware as this is often a cause of poor reading and writing. Just check out the full name under device manager and then type the name into google ie Lite On 1234a firmware

    Hope it helps

  17. Hmmmmmmm I also have the Premium Channel and am also watching the "good stuff" only difference is I AM PAYING FOR IT and always have done since it was available. Not happy about this  :o

It will only be a promotion thing to get the rest of us hooked.I don't think that you getting angry will help. :D

It is a Xmas promotion until the 31st of December and its supposedly a gift to us all. But why oh why are these extra channels worth 500 bht more per month, it should all be included in the Gold package.

I keep on hearing rumours that certain cards are available in Pantip for a price.... I had one in the UK and it worked a treat, would love to get hold of one here

  18. I'm using the plane Jane free limewire, and never had any issues with it!

I am using the plain jane version of Limewire ver 4.10 and the problem disappears. Seems its a bug with 4.9.9 so I will wait to get the pro version when it appears online

BTW beware of "Limerwirepro 4.10 please share" on both Kazaa and Limewire. It is a batch file (looks like a little white box with a blue stripe at the top) and if you are stupid enough to click on it, say bye bye to your windows installation and hello to Mr Reformat and start all over again..........

I know, I was the stupid one to click on it :o

  19. Hi guys

Thought I would try out Limewire Pro ver 4.9.9 and after initially being impressed with the searches I was then very disappointed to see that when most of the downloads reached 100 per cent, it then said disk problem and does not save the file. Out of 20 files, mp3 and mpegs, only 3 saved.

I have no problem with disk space, over 20 gb available for my shared folder and have encountered no problems with other p2p programs so whats this stupid error all about ??

  20. JAF,

do the speed test form adsl thailand (see link in post above).

You'll know immediately if your line is OK. You should have results of over 400kbps...

Internationally is a different story on Maxnet4home. The package is so cheap they have to have a very high contention ratio (sharing ratio) to make it brake even financially.

Aha something else I have learned today. The speed I quoted was using the Speak Easy international test at 3-4pm today, so for international connections its okay for daytime use.

I checked out the ADSLThailand and I am getting 387kbps on the domestic adsl and 250-323 kbps on the international at 8pm so I must be one of the lucky ones.

Cheers Monty, I will keep checking it and btw, my wireless adaptor is working fine :D So next I am going to work on the security and connecting to the local filesharing hub :o

  21. Hi guys

I subscribed to the maxnet4home 512/256 connection about 1 week ago and so far it has never risen above 300kbps and today its between 180 and 230 kbps. Should I be expecting more than this and if so, who should I call (local southern office or Bangkok head office) and what should she ask them to do exactly

    Cheers

  22. the bit torrent client  Bit Comet (google it) is a free and supports UPnP - so no need to forward ports.

Though if you are going to be a professional then you should set up the port forwarding properly ... but bit comet should work fine, and is perhaps the best BT client around anyway.

You may also want to try the DC network, PM me for details.

I will try out both options in the nest day or two. For now I will work on Bit Comet and Bit Torrent

    JAF

PS Got my Kazaa Lite going again

  23. I think a lot of the bittorent programs do not support UPnP.

This would mean you have to tell your router to forward the relevant ports to your laptop.

This involves also setting a fixed IP address on your laptop's network connection, instead opf letting it receive an IP adress from your routers dhcp server.

I would advice on studying following website:

    http://www.portforward.com/

This site includes tutorials on how to setup portforwarding, both for most programs needing it (P2P, games, webcams etc...), and with explanations for most routers on the market, including the p660HW you have!

    Cheers Monty

As always, a clear informative answer............ lets just hope I can figure this wireless thingymajig out..............the technician is coming today at 6pm and lo and behold, he is going to do it all for free

Amazing Thailand.........I just love this country

    JAF

PS Must mention that Kazaa lite is also not connecting now since I had to reinstall windows and whereas previously on the Shields Up website I was getting a 100 per cent, no access to your computer you are super safe...........now it comes up with all sorts of open ports for attack............its a long steep learning curve with this wireless router but I will persevere with a little help from the guys on this forum

Once again, thanks to all who have offered me assistance
