🤔 in my own experience, could have been working for a company that fired him, still owed him money, and when he went to try get his money ,the company then used their "connection" with local police to bring a completely false charge of theft. The guy then left the country due to no visa and work permit expired.. not knowing about the warrant. This happened to me a few years ago, eventually due to my " connections" with tourist police the company had to give me an apology and a compensation payment.. still didnt get the full money i was owed though.. there are a lot of business owners in phuket that try this.

Kamala police are quick to go round bars collecting tea money and demanding "hush money" from bar girls to turn a blind eye. And of course the checkpoints either side of kamala where they use a fixed , breathalyser to con money out of people. I know because they did it to me and i hadnt had a drink for over 2 months.. try get them to do some real police work. Not a chance. And not to mention the swiss bar owner they caught selling all kinds of drugs , but he appeared back on the street a day after after his family paid a 1 million baht ,get out of jail card. i had the same a few years ago, i jumped into a tuk tuk outside MBK and the guy offered me the same deal. 50 baht to go to a rather filthy looking indian tailor shop. i did order a pair of cargo shorts made to fit, but obviously didnt spend enough , when i got to central festival where i was intended, the tuk tuk driver tried to scam me for 500 baht.. i gave him 200 baht and jumped out, walked away.. i always use Bolt, now, every time. never a problem, never been scammed,,as for the cargo shorts, they turned up at my hotel and not what i ordered or the material i asked for and too tight..

Im not sure the police are the ones that should be doing the background checks in Phuket, as they are the biggest criminals in phuket. The amount of shoosh money going into their pockets is unreal. From checkpoints, to collecting protection money from bars, donations from bar girls, the list goes on . 11 years in phuket, ive seen so much
