  1. Does anyone know where to get repair or parts for water heaters and/or water pumps? I have a pump that works great but the tank under it has rusted out. I also have a water heater that a Thai helper was to install but turned the fitting to tight and twisted the pipe inside so it now leaks. Brand new but I can't use it. Any one know of any repair or parts shops?

  2. Went both nights - great music! I was surprised there were so few people for such a high caliber event.

It was a better turn out from last yrs rain out , it will build each yr if they have it every yr!

Did you see all eight bands over the two nights? If so,for the folks who did not go or were not there for both nights, give us a quick review on each group and the overall feeling at the fest?

Great videos , check them out !

Highlights for me were Victor Brox, his daughter Kyla and Rich Harper - oh and the keyboard guy from Cannonball.

All the bands were extremely good but it took these four to get people of their seats.

The atmosphere was good but lacking in numbers. Food and drink were plentiful but a bit pricey.

I hope next year they put out better advertising as this deserves alot of support.

  6. I find this very refreshing that you would take a poll of what bands people would like to see! It shows that a lott of thought will be going into this years festival, and hopfully it will be the best year so far!

Before I give any suggestions or advice I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Ken 'Snowman' Minahan ,I have been a professional musician/singer/song writer/record producer for over 30 yrs. In 1992 I recieved the 'B.B. King Lucille Award' from the National Blues Foundation in Memphis. Were I was invited to play at the W.C. Handy Awards (the Grammys of the Blues). I have not only toured the globe playing clubs and major Blues festivals, I have also tought a classes on the Blues at the Univerisity of Miami and in Taiwan. I am currently, and have been for the last 4 years, band leader and guitarist for the Blues Factory in Pattaya.

I know that the first year was a once in a lifetime event , like Woodstock, where musicians ,tourists and locals all came together in the aftermath of the tsunami. Hard to recreate the feeling of unitiy, of all who attended ,proformed and felt during that first 10 day festival. I also realise you have been criticised for last years festival. I am delighted that have not given up on the event and are looking at the past 2 yrs. as a learning experience , planning to make it better by asking for advice.

Let me start by saying your dedication to making the first week Blues is a great idea. I have been playing Blues all my life and have never seen it more popular ,world wide ,as it is now! Anyone who conciders the Blues to be boring has never been to a REAL Blues festival or even seen a good Blues band at a club. These people stereotype Blues as cry-in-your-beer ,slow and dreary music of the past. The have obviously never seen Buddy Guy play!

However,it is too bad you won't be using an outdoor BIG stage as you did last year. But I also understand costs are being taken into concideration this year.

Some things that might help bring down costs , but keep the quality up,would be to bring artists over who would use a local 'core band' to back them up. The local back-up core band needs to be well versed in the Blues, study the proformers they will be backing and quick study when the artist arrives for a rehearsal. I understand not all artists want to play with an unfamiliar band but many others will. One name that comes to mind is Kenny Neal,a second generation Bluesman who can front any band, take over the stage and get the audience on their feet. You can find his website by searching his name. I have other names who would do the same, these are all well know names in the American Blues scene.

My next suggestion would be to contact Blues Soceities in countries like Japan ,China (Tawain),Singapore ...etc., find out the dates of their Blues festivals and try to coordinate festivals to share in the cost of bringing over artists. I have been invited to preform at the Blues Soceity of Tawain's BLUES BASH , for the second yr., on the 4-5 of Nov. An adjustment of dates could make it cost effecent for all involved. You get the artist for less and the artist gets more gigs on the one trip!

If these ideas sound good to you and you would like to discuss other ideas ,please contact me at [email protected].

Thank you for your intrest and support of the blues. SNOWMAN

  7. All the tailor shops are run buy Indains who can't measure vary well let alone sew anything! They are just middle men! If you go behind the new computer building,I forget the name,it's on So. Pattaya Rd. across from the Tues- Friday market. Anyway behind that building they have a parking lot .In the shophouses surrounding the parking lot are about 30 Thai tailors who really to all the tailoring for all the Indain salesmen. Cut out the middle man! Fitted on site no waiting no price change!Take your pick!

  8. Early in this forum it was suggested that all the Go Go and bar owners send their girls home to talk there villages out of voteing for TX . This is really not such a bad idea! But I would suggest that after they explane ,to all their girls, the effect all this will have, and has, on their earnings, send them home to vote! With the number of girls working in Bangkok, Pattaya ,Phuket..etc we are talking hundreds of thousands ,that's a lott of voteing power! And that does not not encluding staff other than dancers! Send them home, they can only vote in their towns or village. So they won't be voting otherwise. All farang bosses w/ Thai employees should send them home to vote and hope they don't run into TX's crew buying votes!

  9. ...Is this America all of a sudden LOL, ?...

Last time I checked you could get drinks in the US until 2 AM. In the UK however........

In Miami Bch the mini marts cannot sell after midnite but the bars and clubs are open till 5 am and there are afterhour clubs ! Vegas and most of Nevada is 24 hrs. So why is this like America ,I guess you've never been there or you'd know better!!

  10. I can confirm, watched the water trucks filling up the bars in walking street. buying water like that WHY??

Go down ,during the day,to the Soi between the Soi across from The V.C. Hotel and the Soi that runns behind Tony's to walking. I don't know the name of this soi ,mostly food satands but on the east side of the street there is a new Arab club if you look up you'll see a large blue PVC pipe for filling water trucks. If you're there at the right time of the daay you can see them filling up BIG water trucks .That pipe is 12in in dia. and water just flowes from it. But just less than a block away none of the clubs, bars ,hotels..etc. on Walking St. have water! no water for more than 2 months! I know people who have not had water in their homes for over 4 months. This is not a new problem on an impending the water shortage has been going on for a loooooong time!
