  1. Hi, anyone knows about Tropical Fish farm or shop in CM? Unlike in Bangkok, I found out in CM not so much of aquarium hobbyist here. Anybody knows or keeps Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) or Dragon Fish, tropical aquarium tank? Thanks for any info provided.

  2. Just returned from Moc Mol. It is just before the CMU gate on the South side of the street about a block away from the Boat restaurant.

Beautiful place one of the nicest restaurants I have been to in Thailand. Set on a lovely lily pond. There are outside tables and an inside bar and restaurant. The staff was very attentive and the band played a dinner set starting around 6 or so. The high point of the evening was one of the ladies pushing booze. There were two Chivas girls, one Heineken and some other brand that I could not get close enough to see the brochure in her hand. She was however the most beautiful women I have seen in Chiang Mai.

The food was interesting and presented beautifully. It did not however taste very good. Not that it would make one sick nor was it every expensive it just was not well done.

I ordered a chicken breast stuffed with bacon in a basil sauce. If the chef would have sautéed the bacon a little while before he stuffed it in the chicken he would not have had to cook the heck out of the chicken turning it into shoe leather. The salad looked great but did not come with dressing. I guess I could have asked for some but I was full anyway.

She had fried fish cakes and some kind of sautéed pork. The fish dripped grease and the pork was mediocre. The fried rice was an interesting presentation but a little on the sweet side. If it was up to me I would go back and try something else but the little lady said, “my alloy” and that’s the kiss of death to my restaurant shopping.

Great place for a date though. With that kind of ambiance most women would give the place a pass on the food. My suggestion would be to have four of five drinks at the bar before eating.

I don’t know if it is typical of Thai women but mine does not like to spend much on food. She has no problem buying a fifth of whiskey and finger food while listening to a good band but the thought of spending a lot of money on dinner is infrequent about the only place she doesn’t mind shelling out cash is Galare (sp) up in foot hills above Chiang Mai. They don’t have any entertainment but sure have a lot of customers.

"I don’t know if it is typical of Thai women but mine does not like to spend much on food."

Well, then we can have a survey of Thai women most prefer entertainment and restaurants?

  3. Rodeo- hip hop &mixed music; from Chang Puak gate head north almost 1 Km; on the left side; set back from Main road; open till 3am?

    ID4 -hualai road or si ping muang rd- ask your tuk tuk driver; hip hop music; open till 5 am;

Mandalay has a cover charge for foreigners and a farang menu and thai drink menu. The farang menu lists every drink at 300+; management making the bill calculation easy for farang.

Other discos not mentioned are Rodeo and ID4.

i went to mandalay during songkran,i remember i had a heineken beer, and got charged just over a hundred baht!

god knows how you got charged over 300baht,that really is taking the p*ss!

if this goes on it is a total disgrace

"Other discos not mentioned are Rodeo and ID4."

    Where are these places ??

    J

Is it popular with the young thai? How is the crowd for Rodeo and ID4?

well i am farang, and me and my friends never got charged 300+!

only 100 baht or so per drink.

if most people pay 300 or so.thats more expensive than i pay in leeds or even london!

    £5 a beer in thailand.lol

Went to Mandalay when it first opened and got charged the cover and the $$$$ beer price. Went a few weeks ago thinking they must have changed the farang overpricing. No they had NOT. Never again. :o

The toilet is very scary. ...y? cos there are 'people' going to service you and they pray you like a god for their tips? not one but many.....

  5. I think for skilled musicians, the band at C Bar (formerly Cottage) is the best in town. And the farang singer, Richie, is a great entertainer & good friend of mine. The only trouble is they tend to play the same songs every night. For younger bands that rock out a little more I prefer Riverside. And if you want an even younger scene with only Thai songs, try Warm Up or Monkey Club (I like the Warm Up band a little more). The down side with these spots is they get PACKED after about 10:30. Took's band at the Brasserie is solid if you like classic rock (which I do) but they can be a bit boring in my opinion.

Mo' C Mo'L is out Huay Kaew, on the left just before CMU. I don't know about the band but the atmosphere is great, especially for a date, & the food is good. Extensive vegetarian opitions too.

Thanks cm das for the great info. Hopefully, we all enjoy the night out at these places.

  6. Some of you hit the nail on the head in regards to Bubbles. I went to CM for the first time during Songkran and was baffled with Bubbles and how ass-backwards it was as far as the ugliest, sleaziest farang seemingly getting the action there. I was there with a bunch of quintessential NYC clubaddicts and we were nauseated as well as perplexed by it all, but hey TIT :o

I've never been to Bubbles, is a pub or disco, where is it situated? No impression of Bubbles when i'm in CM.

  7. Last week, I went twice to Goodview restaurant for live band music for dinner. I'm thinking if there is other restaurant as good as Goodview?

Your favourite choice of live band restaurants?

I have to agree regarding Goodview also. Like the food, acceptable wines, ambiance, music.

    Another choice is Gallery restaurant.

Can anyone list down the live band restaurants with good ambience? :o

  8. So.. I think you covered just about every demographic there in your Bubbles census..

"young farang, old farang, young thai guys, ladyboys, pro girls.. "

What kind of people WOULD you like/expect when clubbing? :D

Seriously: It matters a lot if you go on a weekday or a Friday or Saturday... You get some more regular Thai chicks in then. Or at least you used to when I still went to Bubbles. :o

    Cheers,.

    Chanchao

    Chanchao,

Bubble has gotten really desparate in the past couple of years. There have been so many new places opened in the last two years that most legit Thais don't bother with the place anymore. Back in the day (hah, not that long ago), it used to be one of the only games in town and did get a good crown of locals but not any more. Best to try Horizion if you want to say in close to the Loy Kroh area. Horizon is quite and has a good crowd; it closes at 2:00.

My freinds and I are about 25yrs old..and so you see...There is a lot of young beautiful Thai puying at Horizon. Three of us like aliens don't know anything much, out of the curiousity step into the club...and wow...wow. the place is awesome for us....hehe

  9. I was in Chiang Mai last week, other than everytime went to mandaley, I discovered Horizon club at Star Hotel. Well, is worth a find out, but i went in too late and is my last night too. I'll be back again for the club. oh ya by the way, is there any pet shop or farm around, I know there is one near san kampeng road.

  10. Yo everybody, I'm coming to CM again next tuesday. Anyone can recomend me a nice guest house or apartment about 300baht to 800baht near Suriwongse Hotel. Hopefully i can rent a unit with 2 to 3 room in it.

    http://www.cm.chiangmai-online.com/paradise/

    Thanks for your recomendation.

You could rent a room on a per night basis in Royal Lanna which is close to the Suriwongsee, although just out of your budget range. Don't know of any 2-3 room guesthouses near that area for that money. How long are you planning on staying? I know Lanna do monthly rates in certain rooms

Thanks for your fast response, my stay is about a week, just curious and interested if there is any apartment with 2 to 3 rooms in a unit, budget about 1000baht. or else i'll stay back to suirwongse hotel again.

  11. > How can you make best use of the time in CM? For example like which

    > entertainment, restaurant, places to visit, things you want to do like tailor a

    > shirt, visit a dentist , go hiking or any other things.

    Completely random:

Restaurant: The Riverside (very reliable choice for Thai food) International food splurge: "The House".

Entertainment: Do a kantoke dinner and visit Simon cabaret

Places to visit: Doi Suthep, The Big Market (Kad Luang / Talad Warorot) and random small sois around town inside the old city moat area.

    Tailor: Neramit

    Dentist: Grace Clinic

Hiking: email [email protected] and ask what they have. (1 or 2 day tour/trek). Or check out www.chiangdao.com

Disclaimer: I'm NOT claiming that all of these are the absolute best or the absolute cheapest, but they're all good, convenient and reasonably priced choices. Google them up for more information and contact details. Several of them are made with the 3-day limitation firmly in mind, i.e. convenience & speed being more important than rock bottom price or finding completely out of the way destinations.

Great mentioned by chanchao, definitely will rock the 3 days limitation!

  12. Hi everybody, if you got only 3 days to spare in CM and you want to enjoy to the fullest, How can you make best use of the time in CM? For example like which entertainment, restaurant, places to visit, things you want to do like tailor a shirt, visit a dentist , go hiking or any other things.

  13. Last night I had a ride in a taxi by a friendly chap called Wiwat. The car was a brand new 4 x 4 japanese car (Can't remember the brand, but it still had the new car smell.) No haggling on price, didn't have to ask him to turn the meter on and it was probably as the same price as a tuktuk.

Wiwats English was quite good and he was so proud to be the only 4x4 Taxi in Thailand...who knows,it could be true! :D

so I thought I would post his details here...

I get 2 satang for every booking he makes from a TV member :D  :D

wow so nice, must try. :o

  14. Could someone quote the words where I've been derogatory to non-bar girl Issan women, or even bar girls?

The observation that many bar girls come from Issan does not equal women from Issan are bar girls. If you feel many bar girls aren't from Issan, I'm afraid you have a lot to learn.

Being sensitive to the fact that bar girls don't represent the general Thai female population is something you need to deal with if you stay in Thailand.

Nothing wrong with bar girls, or having one as a girlfriend, so please quote where I've criticised this type of relationship. Only made an observation.

    And please, chill dude.

cool, I support what you have say. people are just red eyes.

  15. Methinks the contributor is referring to the hair growing on the soles of his feet. Amazing what you can pick up when you drag your feet around town ...

I think this is the guy whose hair growing on the soles of his feet and do his stupid act before, that why he know. haha :o
