The entire interview was done in Thai, though you could opt to do it in English if you want to.

    - Immigration didn't bat an eye about the fact that my wife is (a lot) older than me and acted like we were a typical couple. Other countries would probably interrogate such couples a lot more. I guess Thai immigration sees all kinds of couples and don't care about how weird they are. Questions included where we had first met, how long we had lived together, our estimated monthly income, my parents' names, my siblings' names and residences, who lives in our house, our occupations, and other basic information. They even let my wife and I collaborate on the answers and think about what to say.

do they usually do an interview like this? You did the 400k 2 month seasoned yea? Just asking because curious why they would ask what your monthly income is?

im goin in September for the first time and just thinking about the whole thing. Using the money in bank method.

For the (90 day) Non O based on spouse just proof of 40K/400K, no seasoning required.

Can you apply for a new 90 day non-o based on spouse in country?

    here is my buddies situation....

has a non-o ME that expires in October. He already did the 60day family extension in April. Went on amnesty in June. Can he apply for a New non-o visa in country? If so what are the general reqs for that? Thanks.

    - Applying for a 1-year extension of stay based on your original Non Imm O Visa, but that requires that you meet the 2-months seasoning requirement of your funds on a thai personal bank-account.

As we are already 28 July you cannot meet that 2-month requirement anymore (if you did not start with it) when using the money-in-bank method, as the latest possible date for application is 25 September.

But you can still meet the requirement by using  the monthly income transfer method, which would require you to transfer at least 40K (marriage application) or at least 65K (retirement application) in the months of August and September.  It is actually recommended to also do one such transfer in July, because some IOs - incorrectly - require 3 monthly-income transfers.

You would also need to provide evidence of the foreign origins of these transfers, and might be asked to also prove the source of the monthly foreign income you transferred.

i thought it was 12 months proof for the 40k method.... how only 2?

    First application 2 x 40K transfers.

    Thereafter annually, 12 x 40K transfers.

first application for a year extension based on marriage? or for a non-o visa based on spouse?

i have a buddy in this situation. he has a non-o ME that expires in october or november, i cant remember which. he used the 60 day family extension already in april before the amnesty was announced. now on amnesty as of june and he cannot gather the 400,000 for two months but was under the impression the 40k method is for 12 months, not 2?

  5. that’s confusing. Obviously speculation but what does that mean? Does it mean people in amnesty right now have to leave by July 31 or will have until September 26? When would the overstay begin, august 1 or September 27 for those on amnesty right now?

im on amnesty right now and just got 400k in bank yesterday for marriage extension. So if until September 26 I’d be fine but if not, in two weeks I need to leave.

  6. In my case....

    - non-o ME thai spouse expired April 13.
    - got 60 day thai family extension (pre amnesty)

    - went onto amnesty June 14

i didn’t have the funds, but today able to put 400,000 in my bank basically in hope (it’s a Hail Mary) that the amnesty will be extended two more months so I will have the funds seasoned two months then I can apply for the 1 year marriage extension.... correct? And if it’s not extended at least I tried.

so technically as of this moment (July 16) I am needing to leave Thailand in 15 days.

  7. just to update:

i went to chiang rai immigration on friday and was denied the extension based on teaching, off of my non-o [based on spouse].

the reasoning was that since i have the non-o in my passport, i need to have the financial requirements for that visa [40k/month 1 year or 400k seasoned 2 months], neither of which i have. so my only choice now is to wait until the amnesty is over, go apply for a new non-o or a non-b and hopefully there wont be ridiculous requirements for re-entry into thailand [i already have a work permit]

    thanks for the help anyway.

You would not be able to change your visa category from a non-o to a non-b visa.

You though could apply for a extension of stay based upon teaching of the non-o visa entry you have extended for 60 days.

do you know the requirements for the extension of stay based on teaching? my school manager and I are going to go to immigration on friday to try and obtain this extension.

as a reminder, i want to apply for this extension based on teaching from the non-o ME [thai spouse] i have that is now expired. i am currently here on a 60day extension based on thai family [expires june 12] - but i believe falls under the amnesty til july 31. ---- additionally if it matters.... i already have a WP for this school i teach at that is valid for another 2 years [not from a non-b visa, but from my non-o ME based on thai spouse]

Yes you can make the switch in the country at your immigration office. My wife died several months ago and I made the switch after the death of my wife. I waited until my Non-Imm O permission to stay ended before asking immigration for an extension of stay based on working as a teacher. I needed all the supporting paperwork from the school (government secondary school in my case). I also already had a work permit for working at the school, because I had obtained one previously while working as a teacher while my wife was still alive and while I was using my Non-imm O permission to stay.  A Thai teacher from the school also came along and supported me by doing a lot of the talking with immigration.

i am sorry to hear about your wife. thank you for the advice.

Okay thanks. And if I were to extend based on teaching for a year, could I leave the country and come back as long as I get a re entry permit at the airport or wherever?

  11. I have/had a non-o ME [thai-spouse] that is now expired as of January, I exited and got the final 90 day stamp [april 15] and am now on a 60-day extension based on thai family which will take me til June 12. - I planned to go to HCMC last month right before everything went out the door, to get a new Non-O, but flights got cancelled so that's why I needed to get the 60 day extension.

I hold a work permit for teaching in a language school. Is it possible to switch from a non-o to a non-b in country? Or is it possible to get a 1 year extension based on teaching, off of the current status of my non-o? I do not have the finances for the 1 year extension based on marriage [40k monthly or 400k seasoned].

trying to think of my options if things are not cleared up by June and I cant get out to get a new visa. I do not mind having a non-o ME based on marriage with a WP, but as this whole situation has shown, it is a pretty weak visa status for the long run and I'm willing to now switch to a non-b so i don't need to leave the country.

    thanks for the help.

"so I was planning to go to Savannakhet to get a new Non-O based on marriage. Instead, I have just received 2 months extension at CM immigration. Amazing staff, volunteers and efficient process at immigration here. It’s busy, but not as busy as I’ve seen during past visits."

For the normal 1900 baht or how much?

I'm not doing a visa run but for those that want come to HCMC, possibly for visa or border bounce. Here is report of first leg. Earlier today arrived DMK. They do temp check just as you enter passport control. BTW ghost town.

Arrive Saigon. Regarding all the rubbish posted earlier by news readers...you firstly enter a queue where you hand in your tick box form (handed out on plane). Things like ...have you a fever etc. Then hand it in. That's it.

Same as I did 3 weeks ago.

Monday arvo I will update my reentry to Thailand where some people relating need for AOT app etc etc. My bet all rubbish. Monday will tell. Mind you it's a shifting landscape.

It was reported today that VN has suspended all foreign nationals for VOA. I have a e-visa from the official government site, I am a US citizen but haven’t been out of Thailand in 5 months. I have a flight to Saigon on Tuesday in order do do a new visa at the Thai consulate.  Do you know if I’ll have an issue entering VN?
