  1. I have no idea why they ever allowed any to open as the do not created any great tourist addition to my holiday.I only see deadbeats hanging around and really do you want them. The authorities to be are always looking at vote catching crys to win votes but the fact of the matter is Thailand is far to expensive and that is the reason tourist have stopped going there. As of late I was coming for Dental treatment and frankly it is now the same price as Australia.Crowns, extractions, cleaning filling still very cheap but implants are miles to expensive. Sure the strong Baht has a lot to do with prices.
  2. Once in Chiang Mai I wanted to extend my booking which was around 1000 baht plus breakfastl[long time ago} but reception quoted me 1500 baht. I booked on line for 1000 baht plus breakfast and reception had no idea why that was so.I usually double check my booking because I have been caught putting the wrong dates and last year a hotel in Antwerp cost me double the price with trip. It was my fault hence the cheap rooms were all gone. After complaining to trip.com the company were good enough to give me $200 worth of credits. Sometimes hotels cannot believe the deal you get on line example including breakfast and taxes paid so a good idea is to have a copy of the booking.Recently in Berlin Mercure hotel the man had steam coming out of ears when he saw the booking with breakfast and taxes paid.He said it would not happen again but did honour the booking.
  3. The simple fact there are cheaper places in Asia to visit for far less money. We all know the Baht is a joke and over valued, still some good value in hotels if you look hard and far.The simple fact Thailand has been left behind and I doubt the ordinary person is any better of with these inflated prices. Why xpats would want to live in Thailand is beyond me beacuse most are living rough and I alway tell friend s be careful before making such a plunge as the years pass for all of us and medical issues arise and you will be forced back home with no digs. My observation has always been that the big end of town are doing fine and the attitude is the rest can please themselves.
  4. The only people shopping there were Chinese as prices are cheaper than China. They have been over the top and never bought one thing there as somebody said it is cheaper to buy the item back home. Now Chinese number have dropped of and business is struggling.Maybe we can get some competition in the industry?
  5. I feel for Thai Restaurants and it is a issue all over the world.High rents, high government taxes high food costs, wages hence people eat at home. I see many farangs buying cheap food and beer at 7/11 stores.Foreign food in Thailand is just crazy prices something the Government could change with reduced taxes
  6. Many years ago while minding my own business in Bangkok a older lady with her neice well not sure if it was her neice asked if i could give some advise of studying in Astralia.I asked them to come to my hotel foyer next morning but declined the offer as they did not want to appear as bar girls.I was picked up next morning to visit the neice/s family and I arrived at a nice house no idea where i was and thought something is wrong here . Was offered drinks and food but at this stage was on the back foot and did not take anything. People were arriving and soon the room was full and it turns out a card game was about to follow.I politely asked to leave and a taxi was found and I excaped a bullet. I realised how stupid I was and lucky to get away from a different scam which was taking place at the time.
  7. I use pdc on soi buakao they do not do blood pressure test.i use doctor Kate who is very gentle and seems to know her stuff. When I am back in Australia with dental issues she follows up my concerns.
  8. Yep probably ran out of money and needed to get back to the UK.Must say he is smarter than most Farangs in Thailand as he has lasted until 80 years old. Most run out of dough early in the peace and if they are Australians run back home to get old age pensions.
  9. As a long time tourist I can safely say the country is now poor value destination. Many nice hotels but I'm general are falling apart and 4 star are3 etc.Vietnam is far better in all aspects and tourists are going there in big numbers. Why are tourists eating cheese tastiest at 7/11?Why would I want to go back to see fat ass bargirls covered in tattoos and high as kits. The word I been using lately is attitude and this has created in to the Thai culture
  10. Now this a turn up farang stealing from a Thai wife. Normally the foot is on the other shoe. This is happening every day Farangs getting scammed and it is not nice feeling. I must admit some are just stupid others not smart. An old friend years ago was working in mining in West Australian and flying back and forth to Thailand. When he retired, he had to live in Australia for 12 months or wherever he needed to get a pension. Nowhere to go no house in Australia no money as Miss Issan was spending as fast as his salary came and all of a sudden, he no good. He decided to end his life so sad. The land of smiles and Crocodile tears beware.
  11. Since when has it become a big deal to overstay your visa?Rules are constantly changing so need to be alert of the changes. Old days 50 baht a day for over stays. In saying that in the 70s one budha stick could land you 12 months in those <deleted> hole prisons. Now legal dope stores every 20 meters.
  12. Well Thailand Tourism think they will save the tourist industry.I have encounter sure groups in hotels and breakfast is a shamble with groups walking around eating with hands flicking rice everywhere, talking loud and not follow instructions.
  13. You will need 6000 baht per month in a vary ordinary unit.I guess you can find cheaper in provinces. The answer is no way.
  14. It has been happening for years with the (Farang)Westerner not even knowing she is married. She will travel overseas and stay permanently if life and money is good. Thai husband does not care if money keeps coming and most cases new house.Thai husband finds new girl friend.
  15. I think we use to pay a departure tax and maybe an entrance tax which was added to your airline ticket. Later it was all scrapped and looks like a new 300 Bhat tax.Not a big deal but seems like a desperate measure. Thailand is no longer a cheap destination and adding more taxes makes it less attractive. I like the idea of adding the fee to the ticket or better still just forget about it.
