  1. Strongest possible recommendation. Contact the website "stayinchiangmai". This company is run by a very charming young couple, Stig and Noi, and they have fully renovated modern condos all over Chiang Mai available as holiday rentals from a few days to a few months. Cant go wrong with them, I promise you!

Used to enjoy going there. Stopped when my telephone went missing one lunch time.

How would it be the restaurants fault if you failed to look after your phone? surely that could happen anywhere if you fail to look after it yourself?

  3. This is/ was the restaurant going up the hill a few miles after the Mae Sa Elephant Camp, the one with very nice views, and overlooking their very own waterfall. Always one of my favourite restaurants for an occasional day out. Anyway, am being told its closed down, which would be very sad as always enjoyed the food and ambience there. Also, was always very busy, so would be mystified if in fact its gone.

Can anyone confirm or deny? Thanks!

  4. When I first got a sticker ten years ago, you had to prove that you had "good reason" to drive through Wing 41.....for example, if you live somewhere beyond Airport Plaza but you have a business in Nimmanhemin Road, then you qualified and could get one, and they were quite fussy and only issued them to "essential users"

Now....anybody and everybody can get one. The queues for the application forms are huge, then you have to go back a second time to submit your application, then a third time to pick up your sticker months later. It really does seem like yet another typically ill conceived Thai style pieces of bureaucracy, and from the huge numbers of applicants, I m sure theres no security vetting at all.

As someone in this thread says, why they dont just have a 10 baht toll and forget all the bureaucratic nonsense I have no idea!

  5. Had a takeaway yesterday ( I live very close by and didnt want to miss The Open). Quesedillas with Chicken. 120 Baht. Very good value, and good flavours too. Owner tells me they intend to start delivery service, presumably within the area they operate, in the near future.

My, how the Mae Hia area has developed in recent years. Ten years ago if we wanted decent non Thai food we had to drive into the city. Now we have places like Yummy, Pasta e Basta, Origins Cafe, Fajitas, Viva Pizza, and several other options too, all within five minutes drive of where we live.

  6. Index has some of the laziest staff of any similar store I ve ever been. Invariably if you ask a question they point at another desk and say go over there, and when you go over there, there are a bank of staff staring into computer displays which you cant see, but which invariably are computer games being played! I know, I found a way to get to a position where you can see the screens!! Fortunately, theres competition for them now, Baan and Beyond, and Homepro both have much better product than in the past, and helpful staff too

  7. Relative newcomer but I get the best rates at the one in the "Chinese Street", heading towards the river with Pantip Plaza behind you, pass the Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel then turn immediately right. Small Soi full of Chinese Tea and Herbal products, and one money exchange place. No frills, no fuss, they accept all notes even if theyre a bit creased or slightly damaged, and they give a slightly better rate than the one on Charoen Pratet.

Also, the one on Charoen Pratet has a tendency to reject banknotes which arent pristine and perfect, the Chinese one doesnt in my experience refuse any notes.
