  2. Is there some sort of flue epidemic doing the rounds? Everywhere folk seem to be ramming nasal inhalers up there noses. They seem to be of the ‘Vicks Synex’ type of thing. It’s quite unsettling to be served in a shop by a girl with a small white tube stuck up her nose.

I’m sure that I recently saw a group of girls with more than one of them sniffing at one of these things. Does anyone know a person that is using one? Is it usually because the person is suffering from nasal congestion, or is it simply because they find it pleasant? I remember using them as a kid, but don’t remember particularly enjoying it.

  3. Hi Everyone,

I am going to travel to Guatemala from Thailand for a short contract (10 days) this month. I want to take my Thai Girlfriend with me. We would like to Transit (just change planes) in the USA. LAX probably, on the way there and on the way back.

Does she need a visa to do this and if so what kind?

Assuming that she does need a visa, how much hassle, what are her chances?

Here is some info about her.

She is 29 years old, divorced with two children from her former marraige.

She has been living with me (British Citizen) for the past 2 years, in Phuket. Her children stay with her Mum in Khon Kaen. I am also divorced from a Thai.

She is in full time employment with my Thai company, (That is I am the managing director)I do not have a work permit for Thailand, I am classed as a tourist. The company never has any contracts in Thailand, it is all abroad.

She can show salary going into her account for the last 2 years. Her current salary is 80,000 Thai Baht per month,

She has over 30 Rai of land in Khon Kaen in her name. We are also having a house built currently in Khon Kaen.

She has about 100,000 Bt Savings and credit cards in her own name.

    She has travel insurance.

She has travelled almost everywhere I have been for the last two years including about 5 trips to the UK. She is now on her third UK tourist visa in a row, this time they gave her a 2 year multiple entry visa. (Issued in British Embassy Doha)

She has had plenty of other visas to plenty of other countries we have visited together.

She already has her visa for Guatemala.

Will she have to have a medical / Blood test to apply for a visa, and if so are there any approved hospitals in Phuket or Khon Kaen? Does this mean the US Immigration will have/ are entitled to have a copy of her DNA ?

Any info would be much appricated, we could transit in Heathrow or Madrid instead if this is going to be a big story.

Any info from Board members would be really great.

IMHO - if you are not entering the USA but just transiting through on a booked flight then you do not need a visa as you are not leaving airside

  4. what's a "Bong"????????????

I take it you're not a refugee from the Hippie era? I'll not let you know how I know just what a bong is. Rather, I'll quote from www.dictionary.com:

"a dull, resonant sound, as of a large bell." Hmmm, nope, that doesn't quite fit.

"a type of hookah or water pipe for smoking marijuana or other drugs" Ahhhh, there we go. However, they fail to mention how imbibing the smoke through the water smooths the otherwise rough/harsh feeling. :o

Now, don't ask what a hookah is! :D

Steve and Wpcoe thanks very much - I know what a hookah is - i've paid enough of them :D

  5. How a domestic dispute led to an Armed Robbery in Jomtien.

    20_12_3_3.jpg

An interesting case now which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday Morning, It begins with a domestic argument between Khun Nim aged 26 and her boyfriend, Khun Wongkot aged 20. Both were driving from Sattahip to Pattaya but began arguing in the car.

The verbal altercation became so intense that Khun Nim decided to pull over and continue the argument on the side of the road. The car pulled over outside the Underwater World Park in Jomtien. A bus with 4 men on board, which was not in service and was traveling from Rayong to Bangkok, pulled up beside the feuding lovers and, armed with knives, approached Khun Wongkot and told him to stop arguing with the woman. Realizing he was outnumbered he ran away leaving Khun Nim alone. :o

The four men then turned their attentions on the woman and, at knife point, ordered her to hand over valuable items. The men then boarded their bus and drove away. Police soon arrived and full details of the bus number were circulated. Bus number 48-24 was pulled over a few kilometers away on the Sukumvit Road.

Inside the bus were two of the four suspects. A mobile phone and money belonging to the victim were recovered. Knives, a Yabba Tablet and a “bong” were also found inside the bus. The two men were taken into custody and further questioning is taking place as Police search for the other two men involved in this armed robbery.

  6. Joking aside, I am diabetic with hypertension which puts me in the high risk category for a heart attack so this test was worth the money. I dont like to think what it would cost to go private in the UK and unless you have a problem I dont think the NHS would do it for you on request. :D

    John

I'm diabetic and last week had Heart & Lung & Colon CT scan in the UK ( London) - £1k ( 70,000 Baht)

Is there a smoking area in the F class lounge. I look forward to your update on arrival on Sat as I'm coming over at the end of Nov :o

    All the best

    Johnb

I believe I saw someplace where someone said there is a smoking area inside the F lounge, but I can't be certain of it as I can't find now where I read that. They are currently working to install a smoking area in the C lounge and according to one of the TG attendants said it should be ready in a couple of weeks.

    Thanks for the info

  8. Arrived at Gate 1 of departure level at 6:30 am.

Clogged up 3 rows of car deep parked or waiting or letteing passengers off.

Waved hands to TG porters waiting with trolleys who fought their way to grab my sitcases out of the car and in the termnal.

They tale care of the bags, you sit down on sofa chairs while the check-in process is completed.

then escorted through dedicated immigration after having paid the 500 baht tax.

Down one floor walk behind C class lounge to the more relaxed F class area.

Wi-Fi working, much less food than at Don Muang but plentry fo drinks and service is very attentive. Toilets are luxuriuous but not easy to find and are not in abondance.

Informed by attendant of flight boarding and escorted out of lounge shown way to gate as there are no public announcements for departures nor are there any Tv screens with flight info in the lounge.

    A very pleasant experience

Let's see how it works returning saturday evening....
