I'm not talking about age. I'm talking about people who abuse the system.

Now where is perfect. But I will say this, we can all seat down sometimes and think bad of where we live, and of course people have genuine reasons to be worried. Especially when you go on tv and hear negative views, but there are many many people who are happy. I do not want to pass judgement on anyone and I mean that, but if you live in Thailand or would like to live here one day try to think of this, is this country a safe place for falangs? You bet you're life it is. No country wants to go backwards. And I do not want to offend anyone who thinks different. So im sorry in advance. When I say safe place I mean political.

yes
My Wife lives here I like my Wife, I dont like Thai people in general ,I dont like Thai culture at all ,I dont like Thai religion or any for that matter, I do like Thai countryside when its not full of the crap they throw everywhere.I do wonder why with so many of you obviously dis-liking the people and country so much, why you are still here?
hey Im being honest
So should I go home as i dont like the people/culture but do like the countryside?

Obviously you're pissed of with it and I don't blame you. I would put on that in my rear view.
Get your act together and jog on.you only live once.

The only good remarks you will get are from people who have a vested interest in uber.trust me they are throwing money at this all over the world. Welcome to corporate America dont be fooled by their agenda.

i have one or 2 plans for the future if all goes well, there is a bit of land 10 rai very near our farm that i would like to buy, dig a big pond in the middle, put a few bungalows round it landscape it beautful and start a farmstay,
were people could come and stay there, but also come to the farm to see if it would be the life for them,
could come and spend a couple of weeks, just sit around the lake or get involved, have a couple of m/bikes to rent out, maybe even a car who knows,
but its something ill try,at the moment im jjst getting ready to go to angola tomorow for 57 days, ill do that for another 4 or 5 years, then hopefully fullfill my dream,#

Yes tourism numbers are down, but tourism is down all over the world. People's travel habits are changing, especially with so many people in countries where money has been hard to get. Sorry but have to say this but it's going to get worse. Welcome to big business running everything.

Apologies for extreme views, but I do love thailand. But I do think things are not going in the right direction. Saying that the rest of the world is going the same way.
-
Thai people always think there country is number 1.they are right.
Number 1. Sex.
Number 2. Drugs.
Number 3. Killings. What a shame for such a beautiful country.
God bless the deceased.

Depends what time you travel just because you only had 3 people at immigration does not mean its quite. When I came 2 weeks ago I waited nearly 2 hours never seen it so busy.
-
Sounds good to me and a step in the right direction....
You have got to give it to them, Thailand is really trying to pull itself into the 21st Century, with all that is going on.
All a marked improvement for Retirees like myself....

Dr Robert
Great post, so nice to hear someone so happy in their heart.

I live about as remotely as it is possible to live in Thailand on a small farm near a very small village surrounded by rice and rubber trees. The "roads" are uneven potholes filled with yellow mud in the wet season and turn to dry dustbowls for the rest of the year. The native fauna and flora is spectacular, unique and mesmerising. The people are friendly but wary. The kids are delightful. I dodge chickens, dogs, cows water buffalo and drunk motor cyclists every day on my treks through the countryside.
My nearest town is Sawan Daeng Din a mere 28 kilometres or 45 minute drive away (about 100 km south of Udon Thani).
I see the ocassional european at the day markets, but they tend to be as happy in their "isolation" as am I.
Despite this distance from so called civilization, I feel removed from the troubles of the world, closer to the things that really matter-the sun and the sky and the weather and the seasons and real, joyful emotional relationship with family. I am a walking cliche who seemed to have stepped out of 1960's pop music extolling the joys of earth and air and water, independence and freedom.
And I have never been happier.

I agree whole heartedly with the OPs last paragraph that farangs are more racist. In some ways nobody really cares if they are red necks in their own part of the woods...but i absolutely abhor the ones who come here and think they are not racist simply because they have a Thai wife whilst constantly complaining about lazy Thais who can't be bothered to learn English, or ask "why are THEY oh-so-not-like-civilised-us". Just read Thaivisa to see the type of comments about Thais, Indians, Chinese. Some white folk take great offense when the brown natives don't behave.
I would never ask a Thai person to read thaivisa for fear that some of the offensive views expressed may somehow be attributed to me.
