  1. It works like this, I did the process a while ago.

You contact the Thai Embassy in Brasilia (Capital of Brazil). In Sao Paulo they will NOT issue any VISA, @ubonjoe provided the address already.

You do not need to be in person to require a visa to Thailand, they will ask you to make a money deposit to the account they will provide, then you have to confirm it to them, and send your passport to using the local post office (service called SEDEX 10), have sure to ask all documents they need for a Tourist VISA (they will give instructions for you), mine was for a Non Immig. Type O that time. I remember I have to provide a copy of my address in Brazil that time, they didn't ask for a bank statement, but better have one to provide if they ask.

Also a friend from Chile, did the same process as me just a year later.

But but due to corona virus I guess unlikely they will issue visas, you should call first.

This virus situation is a total mess!

Yes, I was wondering about the hotels etc.

    Well I guess I'm royally ******

Just rent a room from someone, there is a lot in BKK they will never report you to immigration (have sure they will not ask your passport), just pay it in cash for 2 or 3 months in advance. I used to rent these rooms in Bangkok (minburi - close to airport) back in 2006, my guess is things didn't change much. What I mean is, there is ways, just think, internet is your friend.

I drove from Hua Hin to Chiang Rai months ago and found a cheap hotel outside the town just for sleep a few hours before drive back home, the "teenager girl" (sure she was minor or under developed body, who knows) from the bar didn't ask anything, i just paid for the room, no passport asked no nothing, I left the key of the room on the pool table before living. I just slept in this hotel because I couldn't drive anymore was very tired, would be better to sleep inside the car by the way.

How did this spread to so many people attending this boxing event ?

all from possibly one person ?

I find that hard to believe - were they all touching each other

Well it spread in the air, no need to hug or kiss anyone to get infected.

If they were in the boxing stadium I am surprised it is only 89 infected. All it takes is one ill person sneezing in the crowd!

Just stay here and leave on overstay when its all over.  That will easily be another 6 months so just pay 20k and move somewhere else.

Can you imagine how financially f@cked this place will be by then?

Sure that's the easy way and I bet some people wouldn't care at all to be here on overstay. But those ones who cares, the only way will be to get an extension (1 year) at your local immigration.

I never did the extension based on marriage inside the country, always going to a Thai Embassy/Consulate abroad to get a VISA, I prefer that way, then I can travel and enjoy another places for a little bit, but I guess now I got no option but do it right here, no big deal unless for some reason they decline the application, then I would be screwed for sure and overstay would be the only option until things get back to normal (if ever will).

This apply for anyone with family, married with a Thai citizen.

    Good luck for us all.

    Interesting and enjoyable post.

The OP describes being able to move to Thailand at the age of 46 without needing to sell his house to finance the adventure, while at the same time having been able to secure a UK based income stream over the past 23 years. I, for one, would be curious to know more details about how he was able to do this.

I had good paying jobs, and saved aggressively in order to retire to Thailand at age 50. But to do what you described would have been very difficult. Maybe if the house was very modest I might have been able to swing it. Looking at the OP's story, I see he was an early baby boomer who might have been able to get into the real estate market before it started to really take off, and he might have benefitted from moving to Thailand in 1997 at the height of the Asian Contagion financial crisis.

But I doubt doing what he did would be possible today for very many 46 year olds. He is to be commended for pointing out the hidden risks surrounding unplanned repatriation, but I don't think 'don't leave unless you have a house to return to' is necessarily the right message. Very few people can afford to eliminate that risk entirely, especially when they are still only in their mid-40's. It's just a risk that most will have to bear if they take the plunge.

    You are right.

what currency is accepted for the Laos visa on arrival in Savannakhet & cost  ? any thing else required ?

For me it cost $35 for Lao Visa and another $1 when actually passing trough the immigration booth.

As I paid in Thai Baht it was 1.500 THB + 50 THB.

I think they also accept Lao Kip, because the Lao officer asked me 10.000 LAK but I paid 50 THB. The conversion is always in their side. If you have US Dollar, then use it and you will save a few bucks.

Taiwan (I know this is weird)

    Certain amount of time??

I used to live in ROC for more than a year, I was 22 years old that time, Taipei is a sparkling city, you will love it.

But remember, Taiwan is an Island, you have no borders to hope in or out, if you get a visa trouble you have to fly out to Hong Kong or Japan or try to negotiate your stay at the local immigration. I usually spend weeks in Hong Kong and then 3 months in Taiwan and repeat for 4x except the first time, it was possible to extend for 60 days.

It was 2 decades ago, I have no idea how it works today. I spend months in the east coast between Taitung and Dashi, great surf, perfect waves, lot of your chinese people, also a few foreign. Taiwan was one of the best experience I had in my life, I still have friends there after all those years. Go for it!

  8. Hi folks, updating this thread: I extended my permission of stay for more 60 days, using the services of the immigration in Hua Hin, they asked for the usual documents and also documents (Id Card and House Registration Book or Tabien Baan) from the owner of the hotel that I'm checked in, I was lucky the owner was around this morning otherwise it would be impossible to provide all required documents to the  immigration.

Thanks, it saved me time and an unnecessary trip to the border, also it proves to me that different immigration offices doesn't abide to the same rules.

  9. He who eats the tail!
I like Ouroboros proof of stake tech (enormous challenge), it's a way more complex than Bitcoin, Ethereum and CryptoNote all together.

If I'm not wrong, poloniex and bitfinex are trading cardano, but good luck trading any crypto, the downtrend is huge!

You only need to prove you are living in Hua Hin to apply for the extension. There is no requirement to do it where your wife's house book registry is for. Nakhon Sawan was wrong for not doing it.

Ok, right. Then I will ask for a letter in the hotel I'm checked in, also I will attach the receipt and will head to immigration to apply for the extension and let's see how it plays out.

In Nakhon Sawan they said something about change administration and they were not doing extension anymore if the tabien baan is from another province, even though I've done 2 extensions in the past using Nakhon Sawan immigration. inexplicable!

Kanchanaburi will be my backup just in case!

    Thanks again @ubonjoe

Are you aware you can apply for a 60 day extension at immigration to visit your wife. Immigration will be open every day this week.

Yes. But last time I tried to do that, immigration in Nakhon Sawan refused my application because my wife's house registration (tabien baan) is from Uthai Thani. I end up doing the 60 day extension in Uthai Thani immigration. I have no idea how it would work out in Hua Hin, perhaps I could try tomorrow morning, would be very nice to avoid a road trip to Kanchanaburi.

You can get a visa run from hua hin to Kanchanaburi from the office on the ground floor of the yellow condo called Condochain. It is located across the street from Bangkok hospital. There is a visa run scheduled for December 29 For  about 3300baht everything included. I know because I am booked for that trip. Good luck

It's very nice to know, but 29th will be to late for me, I need to do it before 27th. next time for sure.

By the way, these borders will be open on Christmas day?

The nearest crossing to Hua Hin is the Ban Phu Nam Ron crossing in Kanchanaburi to Myanmar.

You pay 960 baht for transport across no mans land and back again that includes 500 baht for the Myanmar border pass.

    Map: https://goo.gl/maps/kxXPCN88dyB2

Well, it changes everything  then. How do I do that? Is there transportation available from Kanchanaburi town or need to hire a visa run service?

    Thanks UbonJoe.

  14. Hi,

I have a non-O visa based on marriage, need to do another border run (every 90 days), I have a couple questions regards that:

As I'm located in Hua Hin, where is the best option? Not necessarily the fastest one, I have plenty of time.

I heard about Ranong (Andaman Club) but had never been there, no idea how it works, I had used Malaysia borders (Padang Besar and Wang Prachan) about 8 years ago.

Usually I go to Mae Sot, Mae Sai and Cambodia (many different borders), but now those places are far away from here.

I would like to go to Pagang Besar or Ranong Andaman Club, which is the best option? I mean hassle free. The border are still open, right?

    Also:

I know that I have to report my address to Thai immigration upon my return, I did it last time, but I just moved to Hua Hin and I'm living in a hotel for the next 2 months until find something more suitable for me and my family. Should I ask the hotel management for a letter to proof my stay? Last time my landlord signed a form provided by the immigration but I had a contract with the landlord and now I have only receipt provided by the hotel.

Thanks for any input in this issue. Appreciate that.

If at anytime you do it in person, and 24 hours from arriving at your residence isn't always convenient, just put yesterdays, or same date as you submit the TM30. They have no idea when you arrived at your residence other than the date you enter on the form.

@Tanoshi Thanks again, I now understand the proceedings. Very useful information.

It is 24 hours from when you arrive at your residence not enter the country.

A immigration office will only accept the report if it is for the province they are responsible for.

perfect. it makes sense now. I thought it was when entering the country, then no rush to get home.

@ubonjoe straight to the point. Thanks again.

Again as UJ suggested, take a screenshot next time so you have proof of making the report.

Those that have to do it in person (like me) always get the tear off portion of the form as a receipt, which I staple in the back of my passport, until the next time.

Yes, thanks. I will try to do in person next time. My last time doing the report in person was also my first time, I didn't know it will provide a receipt since it was a free of charge service.
