  1. Hi Guys,

    Thought this thread needed some reviving since the last post 4 months ago.

    It'd be interesting to hear from the long term owners, about how the bike is fairing, any new problems crept in?

     

    I spoke with a CT400 owner (over 1 year) today, he reports the bike is holding up quite well.

    The main issues have been:

    • The original tyres are pretty lethal in the wet - soon to be changed to Semi-Enduro type tyres, 4500 baht for the pair inc fitting.
    • The engine would cut out on occasion around 1500rpm after 1hour+ riding - possibly related to the ECU fi issue others have mentioned on the earlier versions. As a side note to this issue, I quizzed the Stallions Mechanic at the Chiang Mai dealer today who said they can remap the ECU to idle at 1200rpm steady if required under warranty.
    • Some premature rusting of the chrome on the rear fender and some bolts.

    Other than that he was pretty happy with the bike and highly recommended it.

    Would like to hear how you other owners are getting on!

  2. Really! Sorry for sounding dumb but what's involved with that process? Does school B just provide me with work permit application paperwork (the two schools are in different provinces if that makes any difference), then I file for a visa extension as normal to match the new work permit? Also i'm on an extension of stay not a non-B, which I believe from further reading changes things.

  3. Hi,

    I'm currently unsure what my best options are regarding my employment situation.

    I currently have a non-B visa and work permit with school A due to expire on 12th of March.

    School B would like me to start on 10th of March.

    However they have told me that they cannot apply for a new non-B for me as the current one is tied to School A.

    They have said I need to get a termination of contract letter from school A. This leaves me in a situation where I have no Visa and have to wait for School B to process the application for the new visa.

    School B.

    Is there a way I can only make one trip to Vientienne (I'm based in Chiang Mai) Laos and come back in on the new non-B visa.

    School A is very slow processing any kind of paperwork (6 months to get a work permit), and I would run the risk of breach of contract as I don't have the time remaining to give them 30 days notice period.

    From reading on TV and other sites I believe I can go to the labour office and cancel my work permit myself, then head to Immigration with a receipt of cancellation and ask them to cancel the current non-b visa attached to school A. If school B has the paperwork ready I can go to Vientienne the same day and apply for the new non-B visa and renter, without incurring and penalties/ 7 day extensions etc. Does this sound feasible?

    Any advice would be welcome.

    The bike would be used for my 50km round trip (mainly highway) commute. I also have a SHAD SH33 that I'd like to transfer from the Nouvo, so rack compatibility and availability is important. It seems with my tastes I'm always looking for something hard to find and different from the norm up here. It definitively seems like Honda country up here, but I'm willing to look for a more illusive alternative if it's a better bike.

  5. Hi guys, i'm in the embryonic stage of my motorcycle career, having racked up around 5000kms road time on my Yamaha Nouvo elegance.


    I'm now looking to make the big step up onto a real motorcycle. I was thinking a 250cc cruiser might be a good place to start, and from research quite fancy the look of the Yamaha Virago 250cc.


    Do you think this is a good move for a beginner, and if so where would you suggest looking for one in the CM area.


    Any advice from Virago owners about parts and repairs availability appreciated.

    It appears that to get 80/90-16 and 90/90-16's in the same make and model, leaves only Michelin Pilot Sporty tyres. It seems that a few shops can still get hold of these, from reading the reviews I would've liked to have got hold on the Pilot Street in these sizes, but they appear to only be available in 80/90-16, and I'm not convinced about having the same size on front and rear, but then again my knowledge of scooters is almost nothing.

    I am the proud new owner of a Yamaha Nouvo Elegance. After some tweaking the bike is now running great, however I need some new rubber. I mainly ride 25km each way of highway everyday. From research it appears that Dunlop TT900's would be a good tyres to go for (possibly Michelin Pilot Sporty's too), i'm looking for 80-90 16's on the front, and 90 - 90 16's on the back.


    Do you agree that these are good tyres to go for, I want something that is good in the wet and good for fast highway riding (80kph+).


    Any other suggestions welcome and places to buy the tyres in Chiang Mai appreciated, ideas on prices would be helpful too!

  10. Hi

    I'm starting to get a little panicky about what my next plan of action should be regarding my Visa situation. I am currently on the final entry of a triple entry tourist visa, 60 days will expire on 8th September. I have secured a job, and ALMOST all of the required paperwork to convert it into a Non-Imm B. Previously I flew from Chiang Mai to Bangkok to convert the Tourist visa - Non Imm B using a TM.86 form. The officer said that the only missing document was the one from the Office of Vocational Education Commission and sent me on my way. At the time of going to BKK I had more than the stipulated 15 days left on my tourist Visa.

    After Friday this week I will have less than the 15 days, and with no signs from the personnel department that this document will be ready anytime soon, I am unsure what the next best route to take is.

    The options that I believe I have are:

    1 - Extend the current tourist Visa by 30 days in Chiang Mai in the hope that this document turns up within that period, then fly back to BKK to change using TM.86.

    2 - Leave the country to somewhere like Vientiane, and apply for a Non-B there, although I believe this Ministry of Education letter will be required there also.

    3 - Leave for Vientiane (or similar) and hope to be let back in on a 30 days exemption, then go to BKK (if said document has turned up) and apply for Non-Imm B using TM.87 form.

    4 - Do nothing, wait for the document to turn up, then apply for Non-Imm B at BKK. (If my tourist Visa has expired by then, am I on a 30 days exemption (I'm from the UK), or do I have to leave Thailand by air and come back for this to be activated?).

    All comments welcome, especially from those who have been through the same process.

  11. Thanks for the input yankee99. Do you have long term experience with one of these bikes? I'm currently renting a Click 125i (first day today). It seems to have a bit more torque than the Spacy at low revs, but I have a problem with my knees pressing against the front when my tiny GF is on the back. Didn't have this issue on the Spacy. If the Nouvo Elegance is reliable then they seem good value on the used market. Do you know if they generally last well?

  12. Thanks for the input so far guys. I understand about the extra efficiency, but my bike riding experience to date is very limited, so I was looking for an auto. Also the Spacy doesn't seem excessively thirsty for my type of useage. I can swap my rented Spacy for a rented Click 125i, so will give one of these a try before buying. Does anyone have opinions on the Airblade vs Click?
