  1. Been a while since I came in for my dose of entertainment from reading the response here. Never fail to disappoint. Still the same old mistakes being made, just different people with egos bigger than their nuts. Unless you had set up a family office in Thailand, they don't give a hoot who you are and how much you had contributed. Stop thinking Thailand should and would welcome you because if you were in that category, you wouldn't feel so left out now. It's quite obvious most of you are passed your best in bank account size and age to contribute to what Thailand really want. If you want to know what kind of foreigner they want, look at the owner of Minor. That's the level you have to compare with.

Asian people are blind to people that rob them. Remember the Marcos family in the Philipines. Won every election then fled to America with millions.Remaining family members however are still popular with voters.

Same with the Shinawatra clan they will corrupt the senate to ensure future elections and add to their ill gotten gains for decades.

It's the same all over the world just that the facade is different. Your comment just point to how ignorant you are.

Bad idea.  Thailand has lower robbery rates becasue wrongdoers are aware that some individuals may be packing heat for self-defense. Removing guns from the equation could potentially lead to a situation similar to the UK and other countries with stricter firearm regulations, where home invasions and robberies can occur more frequently

I come from Singapore and the home invasion threats I usually encounter are from creepy crawlies. And how has packing heat helped countries like US?

It’s the Russians and Chinese.  They pay whatever is asked, no questions.  Rent always paid on time.  My wife owns a large number of high end houses in Bangkok.  The renters were all expat senior managers working for international companies.  The houses are now mainly rented to Chinese at twice the price of what they were three years ago.  Also, short term rentals have taken many properties out of the long term rental pool.  The short term rental market generates even better returns.  No surprised in bit with your story/situation.

It's simple supply and demand. If you guys are stunned about those rental rates, come over little red dot. I assure you that phuket rental prices are nothing compared to what's happened here. What's the cause? Recent flight of capital from certain countries. 350,000baht per month is nothing when a bungalow here rents for up to sgd 200,000 monthly.

That was likely Delta not Omicron.

If it's Delta I probably would have been sent to national infectious diseases department in Singapore after my pcr test. You think only Delta can provoke such symptoms? I assure you, it really depends on individuals. My two other colleagues with us that had that dinner tested positive later both only had sore throat and block nose.

Just watched the LALISA video on You Tube.

    I certainly would!

I'm not a fan of k pop but even I know the genre is more prominent than ever. Bts and blackpink generate billions of clicks and that's what sells these days. 14 year olds in Thailand may not be rich but 14 year olds from China probably have more pocket money than the pension of some here. When McDonald's have a collaboration meal with BTS that sold out throughout the world and even cold play did a song with them, you gotta know there are tons of money to be made. Even American mainstream media recognize that. On a separate note, I actually prefer Korean movies and drama now than Hollywood <deleted> because of the rising quality.

Community infections among vaccinated doesnt mean death.  Forget about zero covid.  That aussie /nz mentality needs to be put to bed

Well community infections has caused 40 covid related deaths alone in September in Singapore out of a total of 95. In terms of % that's massive. And yes, those 40 includes fully vaccinated individuals although almost all are age 60 and above.

Never a dull moment; I did not even know that they had silently invented yet another Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovations.

Given the difference in road grid, infrastructure and logistic challenges, the numbers of Brunei and Vietnam are more than disappointing; outstanding though is Cambodia and Laos. Indonesia and the Philippines face the challenge of thousands of islands. If Thailand would have started straight away and not hick hack around between all those Ministries which all knew better and a Ministry of Public Health bashing less on dirty farang and more on "getting the job done", Thailand would be second also in percentage!

Remember, of relevance is the percentage of population and not the absolute numbers:

77.37% Singapore 5,9 million , vaccinations administered 9,13 million doses
68,24% Cambodia 17 million , vaccinations administered 23,2 million doses
61.77% Malaysia 32,7 million , vaccinations administered 40,4 million doses
    45.74% Brunei 443,000 , vaccinations administered 405,300 doses
31.93% Thailand 70 million , vaccinations administered 44,7 million doses
31.76% Lao PDR 7,4 million , vaccinations administered 4,7 million doses
22.55% Indonesia 277 million , vaccinations administered 124,9 million doses
17.52% Vietnam 98,3 million , vaccinations administered 34,1 million doses
18.58% Philippines 111,4 million , vaccinations administered 41,4 million doses

Wonder how they got their numbers when Singapore reached 80% fully vaccinated in August. Anyway vaccination rate doesn't count much when community infection is still rising in Singapore. I highly doubt Thailand's decreasing numbers.

Not to disparage sinovac but  a 2nd inoculations is typically worse than the 1st since the immune system has been prepped to respond more vigorously. In addition, just because a post vaccination experience is unpleasant doesn't mean it's worse. Quite the contrary. In fact, all other things being equal, it signifies that its aroused a stronger response from one's immune system.

My 2nd shot(moderna) was worse than the first but anyone know how would it be after a third booster from a similar vaccine? Singapore just announced a third shot for those over 60 today using the same mRNA vaccines. I guess my turn will come in two or three months. Not excited about the side effects.

  10. Just sharing my thoughts with OP since I'm in Singapore and own a condo in Thailand. Obviously finances play a significant part in your consideration, but have you considered how suitable is the country and culture for you and family? Traveling for holiday is not the same as living there long term. It would be prudent for you to consider that first. Second, if you only budget 100k USD for a property, it doesn't get you nearly enough in bkk if that's where you plan to go. My one bedroom condo in bkk suk 28 was about 6m baht in 2012. I believed prices has gone up since. If you are earning income in Singapore, you can try uob bank for mortgage but there are limitations on the amount you borrow, the loan period, restriction of which developer to purchase from as well as high interest rates. Having said that, 100k can't get you anything in Singapore too so....... Maybe you can consider johor like someone else mentioned here. I got my freehold waterfront 3 bedroom condo in johor bahru in 2014 for about 150k USD. Living cost in johor is about a third to half of Singapore's. Ultimately your budget plays a big part in where you end up.

No breakthrough required. Apparently the long available and relatively cheap Ivermectin is an effective treatment.

Ivermectin was only recently singled out yesterday by both WHO and CDC as a no go due to high risk of poisoning and lack of sufficient data from those optimistic "research".

Completely absurd when you think about it…total BS numbers.

That equates to 1.5% of the entire population in a single day. Or 12% of the population of Bangkok in a single day.

Shame on anyone that actually believes those numbers.

Vaccination rate of more than 1% of total population per day has been done consistently by Singapore and Malaysia for months so I do not think it's impossible. Whether or not the Thailand really has done so is another matter.

The issue here really is not the desire or non-desire to be vaxxed. It is the nonsensical and totalitarian requirement for restaurants to see your "vaccine papers" before you are allowed to eat in their business. First of all here in Thailand - there is no anti-vaxxer movement and demand for vaccines is exceeding the supply.

I want to be fully vaxxed and so does my family but it is now almost September and we are still waiting and we have no idea when quality vaccines will be available to us. For the government to mandate this medical apartheid - especially at a time when over 90% of the country is not fully vaxxed - is discriminatory, unfair, and not rational(but what the government does in Thailand rarely is). Restaurants and customers did just fine with normal precautions since March of last year until they were forcibly shut down. Did Thailand have any "super spreader" events coming from restaurants? I don't recall any. This is simply a knee-jerk reaction that has no benefit economically to these businesses that desperately need any income they can get.

You will now have 2 different scenarios:

Restaurants that ignore this stupidity and accept all customers will begin to recover financially.

Restaurants that discriminate will see very few or maybe zero customers and be forced to close again due to lack of business.

Since I want to be vaccinated, but cannot due to the lack of supply - I will be eating in restaurants that do not discriminate - and no I am not in fear of catching a virus from other non-vaccinated diners.

I understand how you feel because I established and then shifted investments from Thailand due to my inability to accept the culture. I also feel for all those stuck in your situation. Unfortunately there is nothing much you and I could do to alter the Thai mentality because it's too deep rooted in their history and culture. I did what I could, by removing myself from that equation by moving away. I understand some of you can't do so easily. I hope Thailand buck up considerably like Malaysia did. Although vaccination is only part of the journey towards opening up the economy, it is still the first key to unlock the barriers between us and and resemblance of normalcy we are hoping to see. Stay safe.

Malaysia have increased their shots per day recently as more vaccines were secured. They were struggling with low shots of 100 k in the early stages. For example, 420,164 doses were administered on Aug 24 and 398,578 doses a day before. Thailand need to pick up on the vaccination numbers per day and vaccine supply will be the determinant factor.

My staffs in Malaysia were inoculated in July after registering in March.....At least they have improved. Thailand is still way behind.

Just because you didn´t find the information, it does not have to be nonsense.

Delta is just a more infectious strain, but also a weaker compared to earlier ones. For that reason, the booster shots are more for the stronger and more deadly strains, than specifically for the Delta strain and it´s probably even weaker variants.

As for the earlier and stronger strains there is enough information, hence the information about booster shots in a quite large amount of studies around the world.

However, the race for buying as much Sinovac as possible must come to an end. What they are doing, is killing off their own population.

Based on the numbers in Singapore because that's where I'm at now, Delta is  more infectious AND deadly. A lot of people seem to forget the death numbers are lower perhaps of the higher vaccination rate (which prevent severe symptoms?) now compared to the original strain and quite a number of the vulnerable may have already succumbed to the original strain in the first place? Singapore is about 80% total population fully vaccinated (Pfizer and moderna mostly) and so far August has brought us 13 deaths out of the total 50 so far since the pandemic. Almost all of the 13 are in the vulnerable age group of 60 to 90 age group and unvaccinated either by choice or restricted by health condition, with pre existing ailments. I believe one is fully vaxed but aged over 80 with existing health conditions. I think it's unlikely that it is coincidental that after a few months of near zero covid related deaths earlier in the year, we have 13 in a month that's not ended yet with Delta more than 90% predominant here. Just sharing, interpret it at your own digression.
