  1. Been a while since I came in for my dose of entertainment from reading the response here. Never fail to disappoint. Still the same old mistakes being made, just different people with egos bigger than their nuts. Unless you had set up a family office in Thailand, they don't give a hoot who you are and how much you had contributed. Stop thinking Thailand should and would welcome you because if you were in that category, you wouldn't feel so left out now. It's quite obvious most of you are passed your best in bank account size and age to contribute to what Thailand really want. If you want to know what kind of foreigner they want, look at the owner of Minor. That's the level you have to compare with.
  2. It's the same all over the world just that the facade is different. Your comment just point to how ignorant you are.
  3. I come from Singapore and the home invasion threats I usually encounter are from creepy crawlies. And how has packing heat helped countries like US?
  4. It's simple supply and demand. If you guys are stunned about those rental rates, come over little red dot. I assure you that phuket rental prices are nothing compared to what's happened here. What's the cause? Recent flight of capital from certain countries. 350,000baht per month is nothing when a bungalow here rents for up to sgd 200,000 monthly.
  5. If it's Delta I probably would have been sent to national infectious diseases department in Singapore after my pcr test. You think only Delta can provoke such symptoms? I assure you, it really depends on individuals. My two other colleagues with us that had that dinner tested positive later both only had sore throat and block nose.
  6. Never mind those people. Personally I think the vaccine helped in my recovery. I tested positive on 31 Jan. Had a splitting headache with fever of 38.5 for three days. Tested negative on day 7. Not something I call mild. Am still having elevated blood pressure and lower back ache, not to mention cough still today. I'm triple vaxxed(all moderna). My colleague(2 Pfizer and moderna booster) who tested positive three days before me still experience loss of scent and taste now, as well as cough. We are both in early 40s.
  7. Exactly. I'm sick of people pinning the blame on everyone except themselves.
  8. Let me give you my honest opinion since I'm here in Singapore. The stark reality is the initial low infection and death numbers from the original covid strain meant it actually worked against us when the Delta variant swept through the country. The vulnerable ones mostly elderly with other health conditions initially left unscathed are succumbing to the virus. It doesn't help that there is still a small fraction of this group who decided not to get vaxxed. The government has been upfront and already warned us the numbers would get up to 5000 daily and last about 3 months. That's in September and now the recent daily figures is about 1000 to 2000 and R0 at 0.8 and we are opening up again. Months ago I already warned here the Delta variant is deadly and causing numerous breakthrough cases. What happened since is just what we already observed; Higher number of infections and death rates especially amongst the unvaccinated. Other than eating out and group activities, life has go on the same the last few months and I'm traveling again for business next week. I attribute this to the high vaccination rate and our health care system. I would not be so confident if I'm in a neighbouring country.
  9. What's the point of your statement. Don't see it adding any value to fellows here. FYI I got my mrna booster last month too but so what? Nobody wins in this covid era.
  10. I'm not a fan of k pop but even I know the genre is more prominent than ever. Bts and blackpink generate billions of clicks and that's what sells these days. 14 year olds in Thailand may not be rich but 14 year olds from China probably have more pocket money than the pension of some here. When McDonald's have a collaboration meal with BTS that sold out throughout the world and even cold play did a song with them, you gotta know there are tons of money to be made. Even American mainstream media recognize that. On a separate note, I actually prefer Korean movies and drama now than Hollywood <deleted> because of the rising quality.
  11. Well community infections has caused 40 covid related deaths alone in September in Singapore out of a total of 95. In terms of % that's massive. And yes, those 40 includes fully vaccinated individuals although almost all are age 60 and above.
  12. Wonder how they got their numbers when Singapore reached 80% fully vaccinated in August. Anyway vaccination rate doesn't count much when community infection is still rising in Singapore. I highly doubt Thailand's decreasing numbers.
  13. Same in Singapore. And 3rd booster shot 6 months after initial two dose.
  14. My 2nd shot(moderna) was worse than the first but anyone know how would it be after a third booster from a similar vaccine? Singapore just announced a third shot for those over 60 today using the same mRNA vaccines. I guess my turn will come in two or three months. Not excited about the side effects.
  15. Just sharing my thoughts with OP since I'm in Singapore and own a condo in Thailand. Obviously finances play a significant part in your consideration, but have you considered how suitable is the country and culture for you and family? Traveling for holiday is not the same as living there long term. It would be prudent for you to consider that first. Second, if you only budget 100k USD for a property, it doesn't get you nearly enough in bkk if that's where you plan to go. My one bedroom condo in bkk suk 28 was about 6m baht in 2012. I believed prices has gone up since. If you are earning income in Singapore, you can try uob bank for mortgage but there are limitations on the amount you borrow, the loan period, restriction of which developer to purchase from as well as high interest rates. Having said that, 100k can't get you anything in Singapore too so....... Maybe you can consider johor like someone else mentioned here. I got my freehold waterfront 3 bedroom condo in johor bahru in 2014 for about 150k USD. Living cost in johor is about a third to half of Singapore's. Ultimately your budget plays a big part in where you end up.
