  1. Dear friends,

I would love to share this with you.

    1. Throw Out Non-essential Numbers.

This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay “them!”

    2. Keep Only Cheerful Friends.

    The grouches pull you down.

    3. Keep Learning.

Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle.

“An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.

    4. Enjoy the Simple Things.

    5. Laugh Often Long and Loud.

Laugh until you gasp for breath.

    6. The Tears Happen.

Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.

BE ALIVE while you are alive.

    7. Surround Yourself With What You Love.

Whether it’s … family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. You home is your refuge.

    8. Cherish Your Health.

If it is good, preserve it.

If it is unstable, improve it.

If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

    9. Don’t Take Guilt Trips.

Take a trip to the mall … even to the next county, to a foreign country, but not to where the guilt is.

    10. Tell The People You Love That You Love Them At Every Opportunity. And Always Remember:

LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT BY THE MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY.

THE CONCLUSION IS: WE ALL NEED TO LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST EACH DAY!

  2. Looking at doing a circle from Bangkok up through Issan and into Laos at Non Khai, through Laos and onward to Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai.

I will probably bus BKK > Korat > KK UT (or NK) and then go bus to Vientiane (are there buses that go across the border from NK?)

Once I get to Luang Prubang, does anyone know the best way to travel from LP to Chiang Mai? I'd prefer water or road travel. Something secure and confortable (happy to layup somewhere for a night on the way)

    Thanks

Hi, greetings from chiangrai. If you are coming from LP to c.rai, you can take the longtail speed boat traveling along the Mekong river before you reach chiangkhong which is a border town with laos. From here you are to board a bus and may stop by at my home village for a day or two to learn about the thai village and its lifestyle before you complete a loop or head for chiangmai. Pls email me at [email protected], for further assistance and detail directions.

    Take care. Eric.

  3. I bet you won't find out much about this.  A lot of house and condo (individual unit) renovatioins are done by really small contractors and how could anyone possibly keep track?  What's your angle....want to start a business?

Yes, I am compiling a business plan in this sector. Have checked with the Statistical Dept. but invain. That is why have to resort to this informative forum.

  4. Hi Thomas,

Would be interested to patronise your place, but need more accurate directions. I am residing in Wiang Chai. Rgds.

Sorry, I am not Thomas, but when you want to reach No.1 Hamburger, you find it on the way from CEI to Mae Sai. You only have to turn left in the first Soi behind Bandu Market. And after about 150 meters you see a big sign to your left.

    There it is...

You can meet there people during the week anyway, but the biggest crowd is there at sundays, because then the fresh bread and so on arrived...

Dr. Locker, sorry about the wrong name addressed. Thanks for the easy directions. Will see no problem getting to the place.

    Regards.

  6. :o Chiangrai is what it is! Quiet, little traffic and less polluted. There are many freindly weterners here and most of the Chiangrai Thai are helpful, some are very helpful at trying to extract more baht out of you but where in Thailand is it any different? The weahter here is not as hot and if you don't mind rain for a couple of months this is the place to be. Come visit us all in Bandu on Sundays at Jozeph and shirleys #1 hamburger joint foods good, great customers and cold beer!  :D  Come up North you'll love it!  :D

  7. hi all.....American curious about life in chaing rai......

    are there many american expats

    cost of living

    availabillity of housing

    availability of commodities

was just there in july....now considering retiring there

I spent one yr in thailand during vietnam war

also was there for a month in july this yr

    thx for any advice...Dennis

    Hello Dennis,

There are expats from different parts of the world, who are residing (retired or married to a local) or who are running some businesses of their own. But are living in separate areas, though. Not in a community.

The cost of living is very affordable, as this city is more laid back, less touristy and still retains its rusticness as compared to Chiangmai.

If you prefer to rent a wooden village house, the rent should be around 2000 to 4000 baht per month.

Commodities are fresh vegetables, flowers, fruits and rice.

....... commercial part removed by Limbo, sorry, see the guidelines ......

Looking forward to hear from you.

    Eric.

Dear Eric, there is fine line between giving information and direct advertising.

Please, don't cross it too often.

  9. Dear fellow travelers,

In an attempt to keep to the spirit of this forum, I have started compiling a list of what I deem to be the best small hotels in Thailand, I started with one for Bangkok and now I have posted one for Chiang Mai. These destinations are less known, off the beaten track and therefore an absolute must for those of us who prefer personal service and charming settings to 5 star grandeur. I welcome any addition to the list, once I receive your recommendations I will post them and hopefully bring more attention to these lesser known gems. (will follow with a phuket and samui list soon)

Here is the one for Bangkok:

    Hi thaiexpat1,

My house in Chiangrai, is open to guests who are keen to experience first hand the village home stay with a thai family for cross cultural and home cooked food. 10. Hi, I would like to find out more about owning agriculture land or an agriculture business. I am an European resident not maried to a Thai, I believe I can not own agriculture land or even an agriculture business. My plan is to plant a certain crop on a large amount of land to harvest it an ship it back to Europe. and this repeating several times a year.

Can anybody help on how to start this kind of business or do I need to go on a investment with an existing company?

    brgds

    Dear Mr. KM Fubar,

My name is Eric Thitaporn. Presently I have a project to grow the 100% fresh and residue free vegetables in portable pallets in a farm. Then the matured veges will be transported to the garden center near the city for the consumers to pick and harvest the vegetables. It is strictly environment friendly with non use of plastics bags and non recycle products. This project will be environmental friendly and use energy saving for the country. This project is to be launch in Chiangmai, Northern Thailand, and hopefully a franchise business internationally. If you do share the same interest, please contact me at [email protected]. I have the Business Plan prepared.

    Best regards.

    Eric.
