  1. I used to stay at a guesthouse near Asia Hotel near Phathum Wan and the wooden building was always shaking from the vehicle traffice around 100 meters away. The whole area is sitting on mud. If you look at the pedestrian bridge at Rama 1 leading to MBK (at the Tokyu side), you will see that additional steps have been added because the ground has sunk by a few feet already. The subsidence is from groundwater extraction. But I would not be surprised if there would be liquefaction in several areas around Bangkok.

  2. Raising the minimum wage doesn't mean these laborers will have more money saved by the end of the month. What is needed is to inculcate financial responsibility - which is difficult to do when you have to show others that you are "wealthy".

  3. You don't even have to go as far as California to look at building designs for earthquake readiness. Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines are all located in the Ring of Fire where earthquakes is a part of life. I cringe whenever I see a warehouse with ridiculously skinny posts are being constructed. Same goes for homes and apartment buildings built in what I think are specs that do not account for earthquakes. The killer here is not the knowledge but the haste and feeling of invulnerability.

  4. Would his superior officers have done the same thing if there was no video of the event? I sincerely WONDER. I don't think he would.

How would they have known about it????

A bit of thought before commenting!

Perhaps you have not heard of a Police report filed by a policeman. That was how things were done in the past. But you wouldn't know anything about that would you?

  5. Chinese tourists bring their camper vans (no need for those double priced hotels), and buy their own food at the public market (no need for double pricing restaurants). Yes, not all of them are like that - but it does happen. I have seen those with my very own eyes. So I sincerely wonder how much money those Chinese tourists brought into the Thai Economy compared to say the regular Korean or Japanese Tourist?

  6. It seems that suspects are considered guilty until proven innocent. Direct evidence of involvement by any person has not been established but by these announcements, people are led to believe that it is a done deal. Somewhat like the Burmese suspects in the Koh Tao murder last year... BTW - how is that progressing? Or should I ask? Perhaps they believe that people will just forget them. Hmmmm.

The licence plate and the vehicle serial number should match or did they even bother to do that check?
