Yesterday, on this website I posted 2 news photos of Iraqi child victims of US/British bombs and they were immediately removed by the enlightened action of the fine white men that prevail on this forum. They sure wouldn’t want anyone to see those.

Any of you high-minded lovers of free speech want to complain about that censorship? Of course not, you shore do like the freedom to taunt them nasty old Muslims, though.

A few examples might help first

I'm (your) on a bus, its very early in the morning (or very late at night depending on your view), not doing anything but looking out of the window and a Finn starts saying hello. Its obvious that the Finn is either very drunk or crazy, and alot of other passengers on the bus are looking in disgust at the Finn.

I'm (Your) on an overnight train, in the restaurant carriage, I'm listening to some music. In the carriage there is mainly French men and they are drinking spirits. Dont know what they were saying as i wasnt listening, but a guy starts to breathe on me and starts saying bonjour.

I'm (Your) having a drink at a roadside restaurant and there are three Australians guys drinking whiskey next to you. One of them starts to say hello.

There are other examples too but this isnt a diary of them. Usually before a foreigner tries to communicate you here gibberish being said and there is laughter around that.

Typically the foreign bloke is 40 years plus. I dont have anything against old decrepit Germans and I certainly wanst doing anything to incite any negative attitude or reaction - just minding my own business. I dress conservatively and do not consider myself to look unusual for a Martian.

I'm asking this as it seems to be happening maybe once every couple of weeks and I am very wary of drunk British louts. I do not want to get into a difficult situation and doubt this would happen. In the last few days, after following another thread in which Forum posters are calling for the death sentence for Thai rapists, we now have before us the issue of nud_e sunbathing to remark upon.

All the comments regarding the inappropriateness of such behavior (nud_e sunbathing in Thailand) has me, for the first time in memory, agreeing with the majority of the posters.

I would never condone rape and I am opposed to violence in general. Thus said, is it hard to fathom that there could be a possible direct link between the way westerners behave and the recent criminal incidents of violence against westerners in formerly peaceful Thailand? Are we perhaps reaping what we are cluelessly sowing?

Just a thought.

On the subject of Mae Sai visa runs, I have heard--probably elsewhere in this forum--that there have been problems by some people attempting to get re-entry stamps at this border crossing. I seem to recall that some people who already had many 30 day stamps were refused there. Does anyone have information?

The whole sin sod thing seems to have, from what I see in this forum, turned into a con-game gotten over on gullible over-eager-to-get-married and too-lazy-to-research-the-culture foreigners who possess more dollars than sense.

My friends got married last year amidst a big display of baht-notes and gold jewelery. After the wedding all was returned to the groom. There was never any question as to the fact that the wealth was ceremonial and merely for show.

The family welcomed the groom as it’s newest member. They didn’t try to convince him that he was expected to buy the bride. The idea would have been an insult. He SHARED the cost of the wedding with the bride’s family. And her family are not wealthy people.

Remember; you marry the family as well as the girl. Know the type of people you’re getting involved with.

ANYWAY...if you care about the peace of the family of the woman you've chosen as your wife, be a big boy, have the ceremony and legitimize their daughter's marriage in their religion and community and earn their blessings and respect.

Show some generosity of spirit -- it's a small request and will mean everything to them. And she'll like it.

Given the number of downright violent farang criminals operating here, the quiet panhandler--yes, I've seen and spoken to him--is a model vacationer and goodwill ambassador, in comparison.
