  1. For the past two years I have purchased many items from Aliexpress.  Without exception everything has been sent by China Post, delivered to my door by our local Thai postman, with never an additional charge, and delivered in less than two weeks, sometimes a lot faster.  I have had no complaints with the service.

However, last December I ordered three pairs of long pants from Aliexpress, the money was taken from my bank account, and after some time I decided to check the tracking information.  Then, the tracking information told me that delivery had been attempted on 19 January, but there was nobody to receive the parcel.  I dispute this, as there is always someone at home, no card had been left, and our postman will redeliver the next day, if we should be unavailable.

I queried with the supplier in China, and they told me that the parcel was at the local post office.  We checked there, with a negative result.  Last Wednesday 22 February, the postman delivered a          notice that I had to pay money at the post office, 802 baht.  Quite obviously no attempt had been made to deliver to our address, when there was a sum of money outstanding.  We collected the goods from the post office last Thursday.

I now see from the Aliexpress web site that the items were sent via Aliexpress Standard Shipping, and not as previously, China Post.  Possibly the different method of transit enters Thailand at a different place. Net result, with the charges I have had to pay here in Thailand has cancelled any savings that I had expected from buying from Aliexpress.  On reflection I could probably have had the long pants tailor made here in Thailand, for the same money, if not less, and taken delivery in just a few days.

I still have one order outstanding which is in transit with Aliexpress Standard Shipping, so I wait to see how long that will take to reach me, and how much it will cost me.

  2. I have met so many Walter Mitty's in my time in Thailand. All seem to have a Phd in ''Bullshit'' Now my house is a ''bullshit'' free zone.......Farangs are not welcome. My wife doesn't really understand ''bullshit'', she just asks me.......Why does ********** tell so many lies? I think she is a good judge of character.

The name Walter Mitty and the derivative word "Mittyesque"[6] have entered the English language, denoting an ineffectual person who spends more time in heroic daydreams than paying attention to the real world, or more seriously, one who intentionally attempts to mislead or convince others that he is something that he is not.

  3. I have sold a few houses, both through a local real estate agent, well, that is what he calls himself, and sold some independantly.

I would choose to sell on my own every time. I have got a higher selling price on 2 occasions, and not had to part with 3% commission, plus whatever extras are paid at the land office that I had no control over.

If you sell yourself, I would suggest plenty of good quality pictures, the fullest of descriptions together with what is of interest in the immediate vicinity, and don't forget measurements.

One thing I learnt..........you can sell anything if the price is right. But now is a buyers market.

  4. I can personally recommend the Wattana Hospital in Udon.

PM me if you would like phone numbers of English speaking staff, and the name of the doctor that I think would specialize in this procedure.

I have already had bladder stones removed, and will have the majority of my prostate removed next week.

  5. For what it's worth...............

I met my lady 3 years ago, and we have absolutely NO problems.

When it became obvious that she wanted to move in with me, I asked her how much she sent her mother each month. She answered, 4,000 baht.

So at the very beginning we made a deal. She stops sending money to her mother..........I will never marry her.........I will never pay sinsod or dowry, and I don't support Thai families. I don't even give her regular money every month

However that said...........I pay all the bills, and make sure my lady always has money in her purse. She has all the gold and possessions that she wants.

I don't have any other family, and so my lady is the sole beneficiary of my Thai will, and when I am gone, if she is careful, she will never have to work again.

And, just to add some more ammunition to the sneering comments I expect from this post, I am 67 years old, and my lady was 31 years old yesterday.

  6. I was looking at the same model in the Honda shop in Udonthani. Girl stated that it was made in Vietnam, and the price is 99,000 baht.

I agree with you about the screen, but there is a slightly larger than normal screen available for the PCX. We have a new PCX, with a top box for shopping, and have had no problems with it. A little bit too big for my wife of 37 kgs, and 150 cms tall, but she manages OK.

  7. FWIW.........both my parents, and my maternal grandfather all complained about losing unexplained weight. All died from the same illness.........colon cancer.

One of the slowest growing cancers........the tumour can take up to 10 years to grow before exhibiting any outward symptoms, but sadly then it is too late. They all looked to be very healthy, even though eventually I realised that they had a colon tumour.

The good news is.....if the tumour can be found early enough, then surgical removal is about 90% successful.

Please go to a reputable hospital for a full medical to include cancer marker tests.

I hope after your medical you get good news, and a clean bill of health.

  8. A few years ago, I encountered the same problem...........bank repossessions being sold at silly asking prices.

I decided to find out why, and the information that I was given, is that the bank rolls up all the debts from the same person, and sets them against the house. Probably because they see the house as an appreciating asset, whereas a car or personal loan is probably already lost.
