So just Khao San road?....Pattaya, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai..Hua Hin..........everywhere......and everyone turns a blind eye......cheap, forced child labour!....all a part of the cause of global condemnation towards Thailand....and the authorities still try to convince the world of their ongoing efforts to stamp it out, but it's simply just talk!
If you read the story it says there are around 500 of these kids around Thailand
This story happens to focus on what happens on Khao San road, i'm sure the charity's that are trying to help these kids are aware and are trying to help kids in other city's to
The charity business is a great business model to be part of. The more extreme stories you can come up with the more interest is gained and the money just keeps rolling in. I recall on trips to Cambodia seeing all the charity workers with there new SUVs eating at the best restaurants. If you have some basic English skills and love coming up with great stories you can make a lot of money. Downside is that sometimes you have to use a bit of the money coming in to make it look like you are actually helping someone.

The only verified reports of anybody being denied entry with a tourist visa was in the south a few months ago and was people that had a lot of exempt entries before getting a a tourist visa.
You should be able to get a 3rd 2 entry tourist visa in Vientiane but you might get a stamp stating you will need a financial proof and proof of residence in Thailand to get another one.
What do mean when you say "proof of residence"? I am just wondering if you show them you have an apartment here would they not consider you are more than a tourist?

Absolutely agree JOC. I hope the 2 boys realise how much support they have from the outside world. I hope they hang on for justice to be served.
I will be happy to put my hand in my pocket to create a fund for them to start again when their day comes.
They must be going through hell.
Taking a guess I think there are many people around the world who would be happy to provide some future assistance to these two victims.

If I have a two entry tourist visa with a date of issue of October 10th. It says "Enter before Jan 11 2015". I already did my first entry and I am in Thailand now.
So does this mean that to activate the second period of almost three months (2 months + extension), I should leave the country before Jan 11 and return before Jan 11?

Anybody know for sure why this case is getting so much attention? The fact that the PM Cameron requested personally makes me that the victim's family must be very connected politically. I have never seen a murder of a farang get this much focus. But it does sound like the court case is pretty set in stone and they don't even say if any new evidence can be brought to the court by these investigators... Also thinking that maybe these investigators are already here secretly, not yet revealing themselves to the authority.
Do you think it might be something to do with the murder being mentioned all around the world, the more than 100,000 signatures on change.org or the almost 350,000 likes that the CSI LA facebook page has got. If you're thinking the victim's family may be very connected politically you might be a bit out of touch with the way things work in England or Jersey.

"Nothing special" in response to your first two questions.
Last question... it's gonna depend on which office you plan on making the visa conversion at. Where will that be?
It would be in Bangkok

Here's my situation:
- Arrived in Thailand on a double entry tourist visa October 15
- Planning to extend that visa in 5-6 weeks so it will give my until January 15
- Planning to leave the country January 12 and have my second entry
- By March I will have had 800K in the bank for 3 months in the correct type of deposit
I have some questions:
- When I leave the country (step 3) is there anything I need to do to ensure I can return okay and use the 2nd of my double tourist entries.
- When I return a week later is there anything special I need to do to ensure the 2nd of my double tourist entries is used for the return?
- After step 4 once the money has been in the account for 3 months then what will the next step be for me?
Thanks in advance

There are no taxis. Transport there is Tuk Tuk's which you will see everywhere. I don't know which hotel you have but from the center (it's a very small town) to the place for Thai visas will cost you 40,000 kip if you are lucky or 50,000 kip if you are like the rest of us. The journey from the center of town will take 5-10 minutes. Apply for visa one day and collect the next. Expect a 2-3 hour wait the first day and if you come to pick up your passport and visa the next day at 2pm it might take more like 60 seconds to pick up. Tuk Tuk prices are crazy there and seems no driver wants to negotiate.

The second floor picture taking is I guess done by a firm not really connected to the embassy much like the small coffee stand that sits there within the grounds. You need to fill out your form (and get a photo) first, then get a number then WAIT. I waited 2 1/2 hours and it's all outside and pretty hot there. When I got there at 10am they were processing number 200. I got a number 480. They called numbers in order up until around 1:30pm when the calling person gave up and maybe went to lunch. At that time people just went up out of order with those who just arrived getting served at the same time as those who arrived hours earlier.

Does the same thing happen if you have a 2 entry tourist visa. Say for example I just got that yesterday so I have about 58 days left before I need to extend. Could I leave the country for a day after getting a rentry visa, come back the next day and then still continue with my remaining 56 days + 30 extension plus also have the next entry of my visa available to use after that ?

I guess the heading pretty much sums up my question.
Heading from Bangkok to Savannakhet are there any options to get there that don't include a long bus ride?
Thanks,

You can have the correct size photo taken outside the consulate and any other paperwork can be done by the agents there.
Even easier you can have the correct size photo taken on the 2nd floor directly above where you hand your application in. They can do your paperwork (not sure why you need someone to fill out your name etc.) there also. Time to request, have them take the photo and hand it back to me was about 2-3 minutes. Seems like they expect a person to be wearing a shirt with collar in the pictures as if you don't have them they will give you one to wear. At least that is what they did for one of the girls there.
Information correct as of this week.

I would like to take a bus or van from Vientiane to Udon Thani. Does anyone have any experience or advice on what's VIP options are available?
-
Does anyone have any recent experiences with the trip. I am considering taking the (8pm) evening train from BKK that arrives in Non Kai (7:45am) and I understand at the end of that journey there are some different options:
- Taking another small train to ??
- ??
I left in ?? as I am not sure what my other options are once I arrive in Non Kai at 7:45am in the morning. I would appreciate any help and advice including the price it would cost me for options like the next train, vans, tuk-tuks.
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any experience with customs? Are there likely to be problems if the items are not new and if there are no electrical items or anything unusual in the single shipment that I will need to make?
-
I had hope that it can be arranged in another country. I've been 3 times in Vientiane and 1 time in Savanakhet.I had to replace a passport because in Vientiane (2012) they gave me a red stamp. If there is no other possibility, I will be forced to drive there. Thanks for your help !!
Can you explain what you mean by "they gave me a red stamp"

Hello all... I'm helping out the guy who is running the petition (http://goo.gl/FD66Th) to get the UK gov to independently investigate David and Hannah's murders and I need a favour from you wonderful people... The numbers of signees are slowing down somewhat, but we need to keep going - if we reach 100k (currently just over 50k) we can ask for it to be discussed in Parliament.
Anyway trying it tap into new channels outside if what we are currently hitting, so we've just set up a Twitter account - if you have twitter can you pls follow us and give us a share/retweet? Many thanks... We are at: @ThailandJustice
Thank you
That petition always shows up with the form in Thai on my browser. Any ideas?

I switched to Uber a few months ago, and never looked back. It's a few more dollars, but the drivers are polite, have a cold bottle of water waiting, you order it up on your smart phone and can see the car moving toward you so no waiting in the street flagging rude drivers down, and it's a nice clean black Camery with black windows.
just checked, according to the quote they give on the website its about 4-5 times the price of a normal taxi to get from Thonglor to the airport...
Yeah it's an excellent service. Trips to the airport are I believe higher. For any other trip around town the rates are great and the service out of this world. My last trip was in a luxury sedan with leather seating, a driver than never said a word, quiet music playing and complementary bottles of mineral water for me in the center armrest of the back seat. For some reason most that have never used Uber have no idea how good it is and look to put it down.

Tip of the day. Taxis by law if flagged down and refuse to take you then just leave the back door open and walk away. Childish I know but hysterical particularly if it's raining and the driver has to get out of the cab to close the door.
My favourite ploy - pisses them off no end
Yeah and what do Thai's do when they are pissed off. I know of one incident in another asian country where a driver pissed off the security guard at the entrance to a compound. The driver shot him dead on the spot.

Would be good to hear some recent experience from thaivisa members.

Stop the Thai bashing , if you don't like it why you're staying in Thailand? Go home to your perfect western world.
I am leaving Thailand. But not to my perfect western country. But to another Asian country where I feel more safe than in Thailand. Where the people can not kill me, my children, or my friends or my family and get away with it.
Happy now Balo?
No regards
Martin
Which country? I have been looking for 8 years and didn't find one that would give you what you are looking for.

I'm going to file a complaint with the Ministry of Education. I'm going to show them my paperwork and they will see the problem right away. I don't want other innocent people to go through the same problems I went through. I also have an appointment with an attorney tomorrow.
Walen is too far away for me. I would pay $2,000 not to make the drive to Walen from Patong everyday.
Thank you for your posting. I hope it will help others to avoid problems in the future.
As for your situations. Well I am sure your attorney will be happy to take your money. You are in Thailand and honestly I don't think any Thai could really care at all about your problem. I've been in Asia for 8+ years and heard the "I will contact my attorney" thing from people so many times. Never in those years did I ever hear of anyone who had any success with attorneys and complaints.
Sounds like your school is at fault but you are a foreigner in Thailand and why should anyone listen or care about what you say?
-
What company are you using? What plan? Otherwise sorry but your and other posts don't help :-(

I have two phones. One with LTE and the other without. It seems that mobile data is faster on the one with LTE.
Has anyone any similar experiences or is it perhaps more to do with the phones than to do with which has LTE?

Having lived in the Philippines for over 8 years and now having lived here I can say that all I ever heard about Thailand being 20 years ahead of the PI in terms of infrastructure is quite true. Philippines is an expensive country with very high distribution costs. Electricity there was twice the price it is here, quality countrol is non existant and the corruption is as bad or worse than here. The country is not safe and health care might as well not exist. I had Japanese friends there. The wives were never allowed out unless going out with the company drivers. Philppines has a lot of catching up to do and that needs to start with the corrupt politicians.
