I'm totally new to this I'm bill aka Mr. Bill.... need about a ton of info on moving to Thailand im a disabled navy vet (not service connected) have a bad ankle that makes me use a cane on bad days etc. looking for a thai wife when I move there and need visa info etc. and know a lot of girls on facebook that all agree chiang mai is a good place and Phuket pattaya and Bangkok are more expensive etc.  I ONLY GET 900.00  per month.. the main reason I want (NEED)  to live in a third world country. PLUS I love THAI GIRLS LOL! I went to the realestate site recommended by this  site and living in Thailand on facebook and have already talked to "SIMON". very nice guy from a very legitimate company and told him my situation. he agrees that I could get A BEAUTIFUL  studio apt fully furnished for  150-170.00 USD per month. SAW THEM AT http://perfecthomes.co.th/property/pp-condominium-inexpensive-modern-studio-room-to-rent/ I WOULD BE IN HEAVEN LOL!! I saw a bill estimate and I would be around 215.00-300 per month in something like this....I would be waaay better off there than here. so im going to sell all my stuff and raise about 10k to do it after I pay my bills off I would have about 3-4 k to make the move. IS THIS A GOOD PLAN?  im up against the wall... I figure any move I make will be f-o-r-w-a-r-d!... haha.... any advice will be taken with much appreciation!!

Sorry, Bill, but as others have observed USD3-4K will not get you a visa and will not allow you to live here very long, even with a USD900 monthly income. It is more expensive than you have been led to believe and is getting more expensive at a rapid pace. BTW, I would not consider Thailand a third-world nation. 

This is off-topic, but regards ATMs and a bewildering experience I had today (a holiday Monday): I went to my local (Rimping) supermarket at 11:00. In front is a Bangkok Bank ATM. I inserted my Canada bank card. It said in effect that I was over my limit and could not withdraw. I inserted my Bangkok Bank card. It said that I had exhausted my limit for the day. (I had not used my card yet that day). I drove to a nearby Bangkok Bank, closed of course for the holiday. At 11:15 I inserted my BB card and was able to withdraw. I next inserted my Canada card and was able to withdraw my maximum 25K (150 baht charge). Same Bangkok Bank, different ATMs, 15 minutes apart. I am stumped as to how to explain this.

Just this morning I was able to activate OTP on Bualuang Banking after having the same problems as you getting through to their phone support. The difference was that this morning I called at 07:00 and got someone to pick up after only two rings. 

My advice is to box it and check it as luggage. Use lots and lots of shock absorbing material! (Just bunging it in a suitcase with little padding is asking for trouble). Be aware that some heat sinks are quite heavy can exert quite a bit of force on the CPU. You should check that and possibly remove it, pad it, and place in box separately.

I thought the 800,000 was a requirement for RV ?

The 800k baht in the bank is not the only option.

You can use proof of 65k baht income or a combination of money the bank and income to reach a total of 800k baht (For example 600k annual income and 200k in the bank).

To be clearer about this: In Thailand to get an A-O (retirement) visa extension you show Thai bank statements that prove that you have had 800K baht in your account for a minimum of 3 months prior to the date of your application, or, you prove that you have 65K baht monthly income in Thailand (most commonly proven with a notarized statement from your embassy/consulate), or you have a combination of the two that exceeds 800K baht.

When applying for an A-O visa while still in your home country, you provide proof to the consul that you have a home country equivalent exceeding 800K baht.
