  1. Oh, i've faced this kind of situation soooo many times.

After some years, I came up with a solution that solves many problems :

It's easy, make the people responsible for the consequences of their ideas.

In this case, I would have showed workers my calculations.

    You agree, good.

You don't, Ok, go on, but then you will have refund the difference if you ordered too much.

You will see, people think twice when a possible loss of money arises, thais even more than farangs actually... :-)

  2. Hi,

I often go to Soi 3/1 to have arab food, and I would like now to try to cook at home.

Do you know of any place in Bangkok where I can find the special ingredients needed for it ?

I'm talking tahini paste for mutabbal or humus for instance.

    Thanks

  3. Hoong Thip hotel is one of the best value in town, around 900-1000 B

Though, make sure you ask for a new room, the old one suck.

Big room, corner couch, marble bathroom, breakfast is bit limited but fair.

Good location, next to restaurants and river.

Be careful if you're on a visa run, i've been told yesterday by a friend that the consulate issuing visas is not at the same place anymore, check their website for more info.

He also told me you can now apply morning and get your visa afternoon the same day.

Hoong Thip is kinda rubbish, stayed there on my last overnight in Savannakhet in 2012, was OK but there are better places in town and of course in Mukdahan.

I remember paying around 800 Baht per night not 900-1000 though.

Now they have new rooms that are great. that's why I said to book a new room.

And for the price, well that depends on the season

  4. You can pay everywhere in thai baht, no problem, dollars are also accepted everywhere.

One thing you have to be careful of is at the border when you enter Laos.

You'd better pay your visa in dollars.

if you pay in bahts, you will pay a much higher price as their exchange rate is ridiculous.

Make also sure your US dollar banknotes are perfect. Any little scratch and they'll refuse it.

If possible make sure you have the exact amount...because then, they might come up with a story that they don't have change and force you to pay in thai bahts....

  6. I had 3 double entries in a row, plus a single, all back to back, not a problem.

Best way to get it is to go to Savannakhet

I wasn't asked for any financial proofs...but they might ask you to show 20 000 B at the frontier when you go back to Thailand.

They didn't ask any of the farang last time...might be a good idea to not appear too poor to avoid having to show anything ? :-)

  7. Got 3 doubles with extension, 1 single with extension too, no problem so far, got them all in Savannakhet, all back to back.

When I applied last time he just checked quickly my passport which was already quite full, but he didn't seem impressed and all went smoothly.

Moreover, if they think you have asked too much at the same place, then they'll put a red stamp saying something like "we grant you this visa, but please do not come here again to apply".

Since you didn't any warning yet, I guess you should be ok.

Make sure you have 20 000 B in cash to show when re-entering thailand...they didn't ask me last time, they have other things to do..but who knows, on a boring day they might :-)

  8. I have been in the same kind of situation.

Talked to a thai woman over a year online, so I knew her well before I met her...then we met, and like 10 days later it just happened.

Had the same question, so what now, is it mine or not, even if probably was high, I didn't want to wait 9 months with this doubt.

What happened is that we once talked about what nationality the child will get later (I have two nationalities)...

So I came to following idea.

I thought, next time I'll initiate the talk about child nationality, and tell her, "no problem, to get this or this nationality the child must do a DNA test, that's all"...and then I wanted to see the reaction in her eyes.

Fortunately, there was nothing special, which convinced me that it was mine..and now I know for sure it is, even without test, he looks so much like me when I was young, there's no need for DNA test :)

So, if she's fluent in english, try to make the same kind of test and see her reaction.

    Hope that helped.

  9. After reading this post I was a bit concerned as I apply to the same Consulate in the UK for multiple entry tourists visas as soon as my previous one is used or expires. The reply I got was -There is no limit to the number of visa's you can apply for, you are able to continually apply for Tourist Visa's back to back at any Consulate.

Must be different rules for different countries as some replies on here hint at 3 being the maximum. This is not the case in the UK

I had 3 double and 1 single at the same place, back to back, so, 3 is not the limit.

  10. Where in Laos did you get all your visas ?

Savannakhet is more generous than others, that would be the place to go if you want to apply for one single entry until the new passport arrives,
I think you would get a single entry, but even if you don't get one, then stay at least a week there, so that it looks like you're on holiday with your family.

Then fly back directly from Laos to Bangkok (it's expensive, I know), and then I don't see why they should turn you down at the airport, since you don't seem to have back to back 30 days stamps ?

For information, i was also a bit concerned last time, I had already 3 doubles entries, and applied for a single entry in savannakhet .

The guy checked my passport thoroughly and didn't say a word although it was quite full, had already 3 double entries, all obtained at the same place.

At the border, they didn't even check for previous tourists visas.

  11. You can only get a visa in the French passport if you leave the country and apply for a visa on the French passport.

You can fly out on the German passport and fly back in on the French passport. At airports no entry/exit stamps are being checked.

Then it makes me think of another question

If I fly out with a german passport, and want to apply to a new tourist visa on the french one, how should I do ?

Enter Cambodia with the german one, french one ? Any possible issue ?

  12. Hi everybody,

    I've got an incoming issue.

I will have to change my passport, if possible without flying back to Europe.

I'm currently holder of a german passport, and I will need to have a french one soon.

I am currently on a single entry visa, and need to transfer the stamp to the french passport.

Is it possible to do this at chaengwattana ?

I also thought of doing following, which might not be wise :

Flying to Cambodia for instance, on german passport, then in PP not leave the transit area, and fly back to thailand on the french one.

But in this case i've been told they might ask for the plane boarding ticket when entering Thailand, which could lead to some more problems.

I've never been asked for this boarding ticket at immigration though...

What do you think is the best option/solution ?

  13. Depends if you're relying on brand stuff or not.

We use Nan Pro for the milk, and it's quite expensive I think.

Around 400 B for a pack ,and we needed at least one every week.

So let's say around 1800 B for milk...but if your wife is not working, breastfeeding would save you a big part of this amount.

Nappies, here again, it depends on what brand...we use mammy poko, not the cheapest of course.

    Let's say 3 big packs a month, at approx 500 B a pack = 1500 B

Clothing is relatively cheap in thailand, 200 B a month would do.

Accessories like bottles, stroller and so on, well it's more a start investment, around 7000-10000 B only once.

Then there's the vaccin plans,..be careful of all these plans, most of the time you will have hidden cost.

Or you will notice that some important vaccins are not part of the plan.

    I'd say 10 000 B a year during the first 2-3 years, so that's be around 800 B a month.

At the end, I found that milk is the biggest part of the budget, if you avoid to give powder milk, then you end up at around 2500-3000 B a month for a good care.

Good luck, and enjoy sleeping as long as you can wink.png
