  1. I dont know Rayong muxch. I just go where my cousins take me:

Big C, Sallord?, Star and Zoods.

My cousins are working now so im quite bored. There isnt much to do for my age unless someone here is 19-22?

Im just trying to kill time until uni starts.

  2. Ive asked in the East branch on this forum but it seems dead so I apologise for posting here.

anyway, anybody want to meet up for a drink or something? Im quite bored, ive been reading books for sometine but i would like to get out anf explore witg someone or relax in a farang bar.

Wouldbe nice to speak in my own language again and make some friends.

Apologies for any grammatical errors and spellings, my samsung has a poor keyboard.

  3. The correct answer to the OP's question is an infinite number.

This is obviously your first time being exposed to masochism on this scale. You will learn much Grasshopper, but be wary.

Don't go anywhere near an MK or anything similar. Basically stay away from any food establishment with a menu.

Give your missus a fixed amount of cash (the amount is up to you), and tell her that's all there is to feed/entertain/cloth/buy gifts/show superiority with for the duration, and there ain't no more where that came from. She will (if she's got half a brain) budget appropriately and decide that dogfood cooked at home at 30B/head is a better option than a restaurant at 250B+ per head.

Be aware of the truck that will have an empty tank when they finally decide to leave and you will be asked to cough up the baht to fill it.

Remember that a "week" in Thai speak means as long as they are having a good time. Limit their enjoyment accordingly.

Make yourself absent when it's time to pay the bins.

Maintain a stupid grin on your face at all times.

Empty all your cupboards of anything remotely resembling alcohol.

Hide all your shoes and use theirs - always choose the best pair of flip-flops.

On at least one occasion, nick their truck and drive around for 2 hours to consume fuel, and then arrive home without saying anything. This is perfectly normal. Keep YOUR truck/car keys on your person at all times.

Beware when going out the door because you will break your neck on the huge number of footwear laying around.

Take every conceivable opportunity to pilfer cigarettes and whisky from the visiting tribe.

If you don't know the Thai for "what the F are you doing", or "don't do that", or "leave that alone", then learn it.

Best of luck Grasshopper - give us an update when you've survived the ordeals. whistling.gif

EDIT: I almost forgot the most important thing. Make sure your wife tells them the couch and the remote control are YOURS and when you enter the room, whomever is on the couch and is holding the remote will give you a big wai, depart the couch, and offer the remote to you IMMEDIATELY. The first time somebody fails to do so, throw yourself on the couch, grab the remote and change to an English channel while saying the F word repeatedly. This is similar to a soi dog marking his territory and will be instantly understood.biggrin.png

    this is brilliant!

  4. I am half thai.

And to those saying i am short sighted about the racism here, ive never seen it. Im not on this site a lot which maybe explains why.

By racism, i mean racial slurs, contempt for that ethnicity. Not just stereotyping a race.

And yes i hope we are all mature not to be racist.

    Ws93 ... apologies for a post earlier.

    I didn't know you are 1/2 Thai.

Always happy to admit when I've made a mistake.

Apologise for what? You didnt insult me or verbally abuse me :)

  5. I am half thai. I hope i am not looked down because of this, i share the same ancestry background as a full Thai, it just so happens my ancesty comes from two different continents and i was born an raised in a continent where my european ancestry is. To be Thai, i have to be born and raised in Tgailand? Is my ancestry worth nothing?

  6. Back in April, i met my cousin's friends. The discussion radically changed the moment were saw a South Asian man on a bike go by.

They started talking about Indians, blacks and white people.

the attitude is incredibly shocking about how racist it was. My Thai isnt good but i know a lot of slang, insults and slurs (my own cousin taught me) so i understood some of the conversation.

It hurt a bit since i am half British myself, but atleast they saw me as Thai. This big Thai guy, even asked what i call myself: Thai or farang. A few thai friends asked me the same question.

I also watched him stick his finger up at multiple tuk tuks with white foreigners on them.

Other members of my cousins were more annoyed with myanmar but disliked Muslims.

The shocking part, was my cousin muttering slurs near foreigners in Suvarnabhumi airport itself, my more friendlier cousins thought it was hilarious.

Is it just my generation or the older generation as well? Im slighty concerned how my family will be seen if they know they have a half thai cousin and how i will be treated as well.

should i prepare myself for racism? Ive grew up with it in england, its weird being mixed and still seen as foreign. No sense of belonging if i can call it that?

  7. This is some scary stuff, i wonder if i will get arrested for looking foreign.

all the times ive visited Thailand as a child and teenager, ive never seen the immigrant patrol crew, not even a police officer if i can remember.

just wondering, can you get money for reporting farangs? Ive heard many people on tgis forum mention reporting farang so i wonder if they get money for it? Seems common o report.

  8. I've been wondering why a poster claiming to be a Thai woman would care to use an avatar depicting a Taiwanese singer called Zhou Hui.

She is original from Malaysia and very famous in chineses speaking countries. When i went to Taiwan lots of people took a picture of me because they thought i was her. But i think i look much better.

    :-)

    For sure without your mustache...........thumbsup.gif

No mustache but I am having a ball.

  9. aloha..play nice!

I'm also from Hawaii. I lived on Kauai for over twenty years, so I guess I had some bragging rights there. Truth of the matter was, as a Haole, (farang) I knew way more about Hawaii and Hawaiian lore than most of the locals who lived there all their life. I'm a novelist and investigative writer. I have only lived in Thailand for three years, but I have traveled and stayed all over the country and studied the culture and language. Yes I am an older guy, but I often wish as I sit in a cafe, writing my novels, that the young tourist looking at that map or looking a bit lost would come over to this old timer and ask for help. Say, "Do you live here? How long have you been here? Maybe you can help me." I would love that to happen. That's because I do know a thing or two about Thailand and have some great information to share. I also don't give much value to whether someone has been here two years or twenty years. I spoke better Thai at the end of my first year, than my farang landlord knows after ten years. I've met plenty of old timers here that just don't give a shit, and aren't helpful at all. I am and welcome whoever would ask the question "How long have you been here?"

Where are you living on Thailand, I really know nothing about Thailand except Rayong, even then it's quite limited. My mother never really taught me much about her country but i guess it's better to learn and explore it myself.

You sound like a decent man :) I'm at Rayong in December with family but I will be on Bangkok if you like to hook up?

  10. It's the country of my ancestors. I was born and raised England.

I have no desire to be a soldier, I'd rather contribute to the country via alternative means such as in the field of science. I would however would fight if there a was a true threat to Thailand and it's people. Then I would fight for my fellows Thais and family, even then I don't think the Thais would ever truly see me as Thai, despite my Thai ancestry and probably prevent me from helping through bias, racism etc.

A fight in a civil war? Then no thank you, I'm not fighting other Thais just because they have a different view on what would be best for Thailand.

  11. I'm using Vietnam airlines from Gatwick to Vietnam and Vietnam to Bangkok.

I will use my British passport to board the plane at Gatwick but once I leave Vietnam for Bangkok, I will use my identity of citizenship certificate.

The Thai embassy said I should use a direct flight really, but I didn't know that an also it's expensive for direct.

My concern is that I'm using Vietnam airlines to Vietnam and to Bangkok so my details of boarding the plane using my British passport will be seen and might question me on why I'm using a certificate for the next flight.

Any clues on what I should do?
