This is interesting, I was going to ask about the insurance, when was this ?

Anyone asked about insurance coming from other countries, UK and Qatar airline ...?

Just received an update. Being a Canadian, coming from Canada, all I need to enter Thailand is a valid passport. ( with more than six months left on it ) They may ask me if I have 20,000 baht, but they have never asked that question before.

Put them inside a 'birthday card' !

In my humble opinion, you should NEVER put anything of value, money for example, in a birthday card Certain people in certain postal outlets have a bad habit of xraying such things as birthday cards and the like. Happened to my friend...TWICE. So his wife wrapped his card in a piece of tinfoil, put it in an envelope and sent it off to Thailand. Reached its destination, no problem Apparently the aluminum foil can block the xray, and make it look like there is nothing in the envelope, except the note. Dunno if I would want to try this myself. Maybe in a pinch.

KSR is a backpackers delight .... dreadlocks and all the trimmings. Probably won't be the same from here on in. Cheap hotel rooms and second hand pool bars blasting Bob Dylan and the zombies.

Not everyone's scene, I took a cab over to check it out 25 yrs ago ..... i got outta the cab ... took one look and got back in.

I got off deh bus about 28 years ago. Took one look, went to deh Buddy guesthouse...stayed there for about two weeks before moving up to Chiangmai. One of the best two week parties I ever had.

This is an opportunity for Thailand to make a killing and clean up the soi problem at the same time.

You may be saying this in jest, or with tongue in cheek, but it IS a true statement as far as I'm concerned. However, awhile back a truck load of dogs ( and some cats ) got stopped at the border, on the way from Thailand to Cambodia. The people were charged...and no one knows what happened to the truckload of animals.

    Ridiculous.

The government cannot be responsible for everything, everyplace in the world.

Many western countries including the US, have food banks and charities with volunteers that rely on sources other then the government to fund them and help people in need of food.

    https://www.barrons.com/articles/jeff-bezos-donates-100-million-to-feeding-america-01585936239

Bezos gave 100 million and many others made big donations.

So, instead of complaining about the government, why don't you go down and help yourself by making a donation.

Not boasting, not by a long shot. And not because I think I actually know some of those folks in that video, but I donated 20,000 baht. AND, knowing how corrupt Changmai ( and Thailand in general ) I did it in such a way that I knew where every last baht went.

Sad story indeed. I need to say here in kanchanaburi, nongya the local orbator office sent out people (secretary) to make sure people had food (specifically the poor). They only went to family and friends of the secretary! So disgracefull. None of the poor people got any food from what i saw. These people need to be taken care of because they are taking all the government handouts for themselves. Skimming off projects, projects given to family and friends, land given ilegally and sold to friends and family, old people pensions skimmed and less given and these idiots kids end up in the same job position doing the same thing. The way i see it, is if there were no local governments the people would be doing better and these scumbags would be suffering.

I used to look after an elderly crippled women and her grandchild after the husband died but clearly people didnt like it and we were bullied away becaus eit was too close to the illegal operations taking place by these idiots. She was forced to leave by local government people and friends of because they were scarred we were going to take the mayor to court and she would be witness and we were most definately going to do so and probably still will. This is what Thailand truly is people!!

A certain "church" has/had been doing this for years in Lucknow, India. At least they were when I lived there. Receiving THOUSANDS of donations of food, clothing ( and money ) household goods, etc. they outfitted family first, then friends...and sold whatever they could of what was left.

    you've missed the point.

People in some european countries that sleep rough do this in the winter to get a warm bed and 3 square meals a day.

This also happens in Canada, but sometimes it's a bit more difficult to so so here. TRUE STORY.....a coupla years ago I was downtown, standing beside my truck talking to two of the "city's finest." They were telling me I should move my pickup, or they would give me a ticket. A young fellow showed up with a bad of "goodies." He showed it to the cops, and asked what they were going to do about it. They told him they would give him AN HOUR to SELL his drugs, or they would haul his ass off to jail. Then they walked away. The young man shrugged his shoulders, looked at me and ambled on up the street. It was really cold, and he wasn't wearing much clothes. I told him, better luck next time...and moved my truck.

In my favour I changed my lifestyle more than 2 years ago to ketogenic and now am 20 Kg lighter (45 pounds for my USA friends). Also exercise twice a day (indoors on my treadmill nowadays!) and long stopped any medications. Keto alledgedly improves your immune system so hope that's true.

Self isolatiing for a week now, I believe this is the most effective for a no-longer-fat bloke over 60.

    Stay safe

Well I must say, kudos on yer 'new' lifestyle there young feller. I wish some of my friends would do something along these lines. A bit off topic, and I DON'T want to stick me nose into your business/lifestyle. But I hope you're not doing long long periods at one time on yer treadmill ( as some people do ) Research has shown that long periods of jogging tends to SHRINK the hearts of 'elderly' men/women, and cause health problems. You might wanna look into doing HIIT on yer treadmill. just sayin'...Keep up the healthy lifestyle. Sorry if this sounds like I'm trying to tell you how to live yer life.

WHAT the HELL is wrong with people? While I was in the Navy on the USS Enterprise (CVN 65), we were warned EVERY time we pulled into a port of double jeopardy - if we did something stupid like this, we would suffer the wrath of the country we offended THEN we faced equal or more punishment from the Navy. No one considers consequences any more.

Yep, same here. When we left the base, and IF someone did something stupid ( aka illegal ) and got caught....first he/she was nailed in Civy court. Then, after all was said and done, the "criminal" was charged again on the base. Another meaning of 'double time.'

  11. Howdy folks, anyone got any updates on the BEST, and hopefully the cheapest way to send money (CAD ) from Canada to Thailand? I want to send over ten, maybe fifteen grand...one time shot. Has anyone used XE or OFX? Come Monday I'm gonna phone XE and get the scoop from them, as they have an office here.  But I would still like to get some info from anyone who has recently transferred money from Canada to the LOS. Thank you muchly.

As far as the air pollution is concerned download the AirVisual app to your phone, that will give you updated live info on the PM 2.5 levels and other stuff. ????

As far as the air pollution goes, it really doesn't matter what it is. He's already got the air tickets bought, which he can't cancel or get a refund...the wife is gonna have a baby...so he'll work out something.
