  1. I have done the search for this topic in TV.

    Has anyone auctually seen grits in Thailand on a shelf in a store?

    =========================================

    I'm from near Philadelphia, but have been getting to Arkansas often now a days.

    I been eating more, and more grits, especially stopping at numerous "Waffle Houses" enjoying them.

    Now that you mentioned it, I am going to have some for breakfast tomorrow, and sure do hope they are available in the LOS as well............DJM

  2. not to waste any time or money trying to form a relationship with the local prostitutes, as the vast majority of them have thai boyfriends that they give all of their money too , also that nearly all of them take yaba . is this true?

    =========================================

    In Thailand spending time and money with a prostitute is what most guys do, and it's the reason why many come to the LOS in the first place.

    A for me, I get with Thai men and women. I have relationships with them, and how deep the relationship is depends on many factors.

    In every one however, I place a wall up, where I can I love them for the moment, have great times, and I certainly spend money on them, but upon leaving Thailand I soon somewhat forget them.

    They call me a butterfly. That I am for sure, and free.

    In any case, I'd sure bet they ain't sitting around idle waiting for my return. Knowing this makes life simpler for me.

    I have taken over many farangs from the USA on trips with me, and they

    seem to fall in love so quickly.

    Then I get the numerous questions. You think they like me or love me, or do you think when I leave they have another, etc. etc.

    I basically tell then all yes they have others, but at the same time I have never discourage them ever to abandon there true feeling for that person.

    About Yuba, it's used by many in Thailand no doubt............DJM

  3. Probe into complaints over backpack teachers

    "Teachers not properly trained or tested by ministry standards

    BANGKOK: -- The House committee on consumer protection has set up a team to probe parents' complaints that many bilingual schools hire backpacking tourists as teachers, lowering educational standards.

    The committee's deputy chairman, MP Vicharn Minchainant, said on Friday there had been many complaints that lessons did not meet Education Ministry standards despite high tuition fees.

    The committee invited relevant agencies to a joint meeting, which yielded an agreement to establish a fact-finding team led by MP Torpong Chaiyasan to investigate the problem. "The team will look into the curriculum and tuition fees to see if they're too tough on Thai students, because we have heard from parents that the foreign teachers are mostly tourists from Europe, Australia and Asian countries," Vicharn said.

    He added that this type of teacher was not properly trained or tested by ministry standards, leading to a reduced quality of education in the bilingual schools.

    "These tourist or backpack teachers can be found in many schools in Bangkok and upcountry," he said, adding that a random check had identified 96 schools in Bangkok alone with poorly qualified teachers.

  4. I'm thinking about early retirement. I'm 44 years old and I have around $400,000 altogether. $200,000 in retirement accounts and $200,000 in cash. If I stay another 5 years with my company, I'll receive $1200 a month in pension for life with COLA when I turn 60 but the problem is I hate my job and my boring life in the states. I'm in excellent health with no debt. I should also get Social Security at 62 with another $1200 per month, if SS still exists.

    My question is should I quit and move to Thailand or should I stick it out and suffer for another 5 years then retire at 49?

    With no company pension ever, if you retire now you have $400,000.00 to use for the next 18 years.

    When an iffy $1200 a month ($277.00 a week in today's money) comes in via S. S.

    What might ($277.00 be worth 18 years from now)

    That is scary, because that is all you'll have coming in. if that much......

    i.e.. SS might be reduced, or put off until you are older, etc. etc. etc, because it's in such a bad state.

    So in essences with interest you have about a budget of a million baht per year for 18 years.

    Doing nothing most people's money gets used up much faster then one would think... It won't multiply, again that's doing nothing.

    I don't like it at all................. If you are serious, think wisely my friend. As I see it, retiring in another 5 years would at least put you in a somewhat better position.............. DJM

  5. A man goes up to the minister at the local church.

    "Reverend," he said, "We have a problem. My wife keeps falling asleep during your sermons. It's very embarrassing, not to mention disrespectful. What should I do?" "I've noticed this and have an idea "if you're up to the task," said the minister."

    Take this hat pin with you. I will be able to tell when Mrs. Jones is sleeping, and I will motion to you at specific times. When I motion, you give her a good poke in the leg." So, in church the following Sunday, Mrs. Jones dozed off.

    Noticing this, the preacher put his plan to work. "And who made the ultimate sacrifice for you?" he said, nodding to Mr.Jones.

    "Jesus!" Mrs. Jones cried out as her husband jabbed her in the leg with the sharp object. "Yes! You are correct, Mrs. Jones!" came the minister's quick reply.

    Soon, Mrs. Jones nodded off again.

    And again, the minister noticed."Who is your redeemer?" he asked the congregation, motioning toward Mr.Jones.

    "My God!" howled Mrs. Jones as she was stuck again with the pin.

    "Right again!" bellowed the minister, a slight grin on his face.

    Before long, Mrs. Jones again nodded off. However, this time the minister did not notice.

    As he picked up the tempo of his sermon, he made a few hand gestures that Mr. Jones mistook as signals.

    Mr. Jones sharply poked his wife with the hat pin yet again as the minister asked, "And what did Eve say to Adam after she bore him his 99th son?"

    Mrs. Jones screamed, "You stick that f*cking thing in me one more time and I'll break it in half and shove it up your ass!"

    "Amen!" replied all the women in the congregation

  6. You got to try this.

    I was playing with it today and am very impressed.

    I live on Thanon Whittayu, near the Conrad, and I was able to zoom down to 500 feet and actually see my apartment window !!!

    I could also see my house in Sydney, but it was at less resolution because it is not in the downtown area.

  7. Its beer thirty! Time to open a cold one and sit in the shade to contemplate who you will vote for in 2 years. If you have a list of possible Republicans well just throw this away as they will likely screw something else up. If you have a list of Democrats well you can send this to the Vatican so they may twist it so far out of comprehension it will be useless anyway.

    What you need is a Republocrat, this is really and administrator whose function will largely be a referee. What happens in this party is we allow both Republicans and Democrats to spend tons of money and jockey for position on the polls and waste taxpayers time in listening to their BS. Then what we do is take the winner and let him be president and the loser the vice president. That way they will represent the true majority.

    There will not be any more wars as they will be fighting each other for position and media coverage tooth and nail and won’t have time for blood letting.

    Places like Korea will be ignored and we can allow them to blow themselves to smithereens. Iran can just kiss it, as Israel will retaliate when they do a test anyway. And China can dump all the cheap crap they want, we will just send it to Mexico at twice the price.

    :D

    In this way Congress and the Senate will not know which way to jump and most likely crap in their pants every time they dream up some stupid law to rip off Americans.

    And we can make stupid people like the not so Supreme court pay up for ignorance the first decree will be “shut up and do your job” don’t mess with the law read the constitution and ‘Suggest’ a ruling not make one.

    Inauguration dinners will be an animal house event complete with food fights and multiple arrests for assault with intent more entertaining than the rich and famous trying to out do each other with the “Dress” the “Diamond” or the silly assed catch phrase. :o

    Foreign policy meetings can be conducted at the local elementary schools since absolutely nothing will be accomplished anyway, and that will be status quo to keep everyone happy and the kids can get some entertainment too.

    State dinners would be a event to behold food and more food the first and second ladies would be really at a cross road the first lady would be hiring complete idiots that cant speak a word of English and the second lady would help the cook stuff a sausage :D firing anyone would become a capital offence.

    The Republocrat way is such that we can piss everyone off all at the same time and won’t need to bother covering up silly shiz the administration does. We will be to busy trying to out do each other and the foul ups; well we can point our fingers without the need to wash our hands.

    And if disaster strikes we will at break neck speed try to out do each other everyone will get a Platinum Visa card with 100 grand instant cash cool no? Just think thousands of Americans praying for a hurricane or a plane load of towels heads crashing in to the local Starbucks. :D

    Now I know that some Canadians will want to jump on this Republocrat thing but think first, your same sex partner will get really pissed off and besides Shar’ia law might prevent you from commenting on American politics.

    As for the Aussies well all I can say is fair dingum, I wanted to move Texas down under anyway so that when GW Bush woke up and flushed the toilet and the water spun counter clockwise he would fall into a fit of rage and the coppers would throw his ass into a rubber room where he belongs anyway.

    I just love beer thirty, go ahead and hate me my wife does but my dog will always pee on your flip flops when I tell her.

    :D

    I vote republocrat

  8. Fellow followers of fun!

    I just wanted to let everyone know that i have just been contacted by my bank in the UK (luckily) to be informed that somebody has managed to gain my internet banking information and attempted to empty my account of a vast sum of money. The bank that the money was suppose to go to was a well known thai bank with the branch mentioned as in the Pattaya area!

    Vasts amounts of money, you say?????? My friend!!!!!..........DJM

  9. Song Teaw driver gets nasty

    news1399-september2005.jpg

    Tempers flared the other night in Pattaya between a young Thai lady and her UK boyfriend with a Song Teaw Driver.

    On September 7th at 1.30 in the morning a report was filed at Pattaya Police Station by a Miss Sooksawat Koomsaduak aged 24 and her boyfriend Gerry.

    She told police that after a night out at a bar in Soi 8, she and her friend went to a taxi stop and got into a Song Teaw after being ushered toward the cab by the driver. After a while, with no sign of movement the pair assumed the driver was waiting for more fares to get on board.

    Some time passed, when a group of tourists appeared and the driver again invited them aboard, but not before telling the hapless couple that this was a private charter taxi, and they would have to get off.

    The woman got out and asked the driver why he had not told them this when he initially invited them on board. The driver got stroppy and started to use some harsh language to the woman, so the pair went to the taxi in front and boarded it.

    This infuriated the abusive driver and he followed them to the other taxi, continuing his foul language to them, eventually grabbing the woman's shirt, who by now was giving back as good as she got verbally to the man.

    During the confrontation the driver caused the woman's necklace chain to break, she then pushed him with her foot causing the driver to fall onto the road, where the two made their escape to the nearby Pattaya Police Station.

    Police went with the couple to the taxi bus stand and located the cab, number 662 along with the driver Pong Gorn Khem Kong aged 37, whom they arrested and they all returned to the station where the woman wanted nothing more than an apology, which the driver gave.

  10. Bizarre case of a man who forgot his key to his room and finished up electrocuting himself.

    We attended the Pattaya Memorial Hospital late on Tuesday Night after medical staff reported admitting a man who had suffered a severe electric shock. The bizarre chain-of-events leading to the shock was explained to us by the victim himself, Khun Soo aged 19. He works at the Gecko Lighting Center on the North Pattaya Road and lives on the 1st floor. On this particular night he had forgotten his key

  11. Young teens happy with sex work: study

    PATTAYA: -- Young male prostitutes in Pattaya find nothing wrong with the flesh trade, which allows them to earn enough for a comfortable lifestyle without hard work. So says research by a graduate student from Srinakharintharawirot University.

  13. Do they ever fall off the bike ? they are so precariously perched on the back of the seat in a super tight black skirt with all their legs showing and staring into the beyond.!

    =====================================

    Don't think many do unless there is an accident. In Pattaya once, a taxi motor bike slid and crashed not far from were I was standing. Both driver and passenger however, one being the side saddle female landed at my feet................ DJM

  14. So many farang men (me included) walking around with Thai girlfriends - I get the impression most of the Thais don't care but is there not an underlying feeling of us coming over and stealing their women? There must be a certain degree of resentment, right?

    ======================================

    All toll my time spent in Thailand is about 2 years. Certainly not an authority, but this matter has come up for discussion a number of times.

    My farang's friends and I have sexual appetites that included both sexes. We spent much if not most of our time with Thai men and Thai females simultaneously.

    My take on it is, and generally speaking of course, Thai men showed a bit of contempt towards these Thai girls and not to the Farangs.

    Whether sincere or just being polite to the Farangs, who knows for sure. My belief is that there feelings in both instances are genuine........... DJM

  15. Higher excises on liquors approved

    PHANG-NGA: -- The Cabinet resolved today (Tuesday) to slap a higher excise tax on high-alcohol content distilled liquors, while maintaining the excise taxes on other categories of alcoholic drinks including beer and wines.

    The higher taxes will take effect immediately.

    =========================================

    I'm thinking some US politicians infiltrated the Thai Government, cause all they know how to do is tax more.....................DJM

  16. 4 out of tens of thousands does not make a trend.

    ==================================

    I certainly agree with the above.

    My point being, I feel that what has occurred in the last month or so, seems to me suspicious.

    Aug. 2, 2005 - An Air France Airbus bursts into flames after overshooting the runway while landing at Toronto's Pearson International Airport in a storm, but all 309 passengers and crew survive.

    Aug. 14, 2005 - A Helios Airlines Boeing 737 crashes in the area of Kalamos, 30 km (19 miles) north of the Greek capital, Athens, killing all 121 passengers and crew on board.

    Aug. 16, 2005 - A West Caribbean Airways MD-80 aircraft crashes near Venezuela's border with Colombia, in the Sierra de Perija mountains. All 160 passengers and crew are killed.

    Aug. 23, 2005 - A Boeing 737-200 aircraft of Peru's state-run airline TANS with 100 people aboard crashes during a severe storm in the country's northeastern jungle, killing at least 40 people and injuring at least 20.

    Sept 5, 2005 - A Boeing 737-200 operated by Indonesian carrier Mandala Airlines crashes just after takeoff near Medan, Indonesia's third-biggest city, in northern Sumatra. At least 100 people are feared dead after the plane broke into pieces and set fire to homes and cars.

    It's got me thinking a bit anyway.................. DJM

  18. I guess everyone's different but personally I don't mind either but prefer to travel with a friend.

    ===================================================

    :o I've been to Thailand many times and have always preferred flying the 18 - 22 hour flight with a friend.

    When it was a close friend, we spent much time together in Thailand and it was always enjoyable.

    When flying with just an acquaintance, the flight at least was more bearable having someone to talk to that you knew you weren't bothering.

    Once in the LOS however, I seemed to go it alone, basically pairing off from each other, having our own agendas.

    If I have to choose, I prefer having a friend along for the duration of my holiday, It's nice having a person there where-as we have much in common. For one, chatting about what transpired when each were apart........... what shall we do today ............. stuff like that, etc, etc, etc.............. DJM
