  1. Theoretically the passport is "defaced" and not valid.

Best seek advice from your Embassy before attempting to use the passport again.

Theoretical nonsense, how many times do passports get "defaced" by staples securing arrival cards or 90 day report receipts and then torn slightly by their removal, or written on? The passport does not become invalid.

A staple or a slight "tear" would not involve "ripping the top of a page off and the top of a re entry permit."

As suggested the OP needs to take advice about the usability of the passport.

rubbish ....... if it's readable , it's fine , you want him to make a big fuss about a tear ?

he will really look stupid if he does.

top right hand corner of the page is ripped off and there is a tear .... not a page missing or hanging off, it's the last page of my passport hence the renew but I have to make a trip now

  2. Thanks guys, when I renew the passport at the end of the month I am hoping it will be just a renew but we all know what we might have to deal with as we approach passport control so I hope as it can be read all will be ok

Here's a stupid question is it the number written above the re entry permit you need for the entry card of the number inside the box, which is called :-) "number". Which one is the number that takes over from your extension. If it's the one in the box then no worries it's readable

Wow, that sounds serious and I am off to the airport soon... I hope it will be ok, it's only the top of the page... I better check, I can't believe it, thanks for the quick reply

this is from the government website, I have an appointment at the end of the month at Trendy to renew my passport so I hope I can get in and out this time.

    Definition of a damaged passport

A damaged passport is one which is not in a condition to be accepted as proof of identity.

    Damage may include the following:

    • Details are indecipherable. •

The laminate has lifted enough to allow the possibility of photo substitution. •

    Discoloration to the biodata page.

    • Chemical or ink spillage on any page

    . • Missing or detached pages •

The chip or antenna shows through the endpaper on the back cover for the new style e-passports.

    • The chip has been identified as damaged following investigation.

  4. So I went to Immigration for my 90 days and the enthusiast officer in her haste ripped the top of my page off and the top of my re entry permit. When I asked her if it was ok, of course she said it was ok, I left and then realised I accept 'ok' without really thinking about the consequences

You can just read the number at the top of the re entry, do you think I will have any problems at Don Muang when I return I am leaving the country shortly, anyone had anything similar ??

  5. 1. Yes

    2. The letter is required by most immigration offices.

3.The office where the extension was done

4.Free and usually done the same day.

Thank you for the answers. No3, could be an issue as I don't live near the original office where the extension was done. I was hoping to go into my local Immigration office. I only need to do one 90 day report until I have to apply for a new extension in my new passport

    • So if you have an extension of stay based on retirement you have to go to Immigration to get it a stamp/ transfer into your new passport ?

Do you need a letter from the UK Embassy to do this or will the Immigration offices just do it ?

Can you go to any Immigration office or do you have to go to where the extension was done ?

Is it a free service and is it done same day ?

Thanks, I'm about to go through the process

  6. OK I sent an email this morning with my 'custom' email, got the using automated response, still waiting for a human reply 3 hours later.

I have now sent a an email using an gmail account, again got the automated response.

    Lets see what happens.

I recently applied for an appointment at Trendy, once I had sent my email request I received the auto response virtually immediately and then a couple of hours later I received a very nice email from Trendy confirming my first choice of appointment. My email was sent from gmail and it seems that currently they are doing quick turnarounds, I hope this helped and you get your confirmation email shortly

  7. sorry, here's my 2p worth :-)

exactly as said before by digitalchromakey about the K-bank shopping card . When I got mine I had a normal Kasikorn savings account and an online account. I actually went to the branch and got them to sort it but it is on the left hand side menu in online banking. Once you have set a limit you have a 16 digit code like any other credit card, they will give you an expiry date and also a 3 digit code . These are all virtual you will not receive an actual card but can use it for online purchases. Hence the name :-) . I don't know 100% if it will work for the passport but in theory it has all the right criteria . If it has worked before for others then it should do. You can always call the very helpful :-) Kasikorn and press the appropriate key for English ...

Good luck but it should be quite easy to get your hands on the shopping card

  8. About 2 years ago I received a photo of my vehicle, the speed I was doing, and an insistent offer to donate 400 baht to the police. The photo was taken near Korat, and was accurate with the speed I was doing.

Thanks Sealbash. Did you see the camera that caught you ? I like the insistent offer :-). I've heard you can't get a new tax disc if these are outstanding but not heard of anyone who has had this

  9. Has anyone else experienced speed cameras here . The first one for me was the guy who sits under an umbrella on the Bagna Trat motorway and when you get to the toll you are stopped by the police and we know the rest but recently I was driving back from Ayutthaya on motorway 9 and in the middle of the road, sat up against a lamp post was a , I assume policeman , dressed entirely in black including the balaclava , looking ninja like and hard to see , holding what look like a speed camera in his hand , and lastly today on a normal 3 lane road in Chonburi there was a camera on a tripod sitting on it's own, not a policeman is sight ....

Now I could be being paranoid and of course I am used to warning signs in my home country and laws prohibiting "trapping" people but does anyone have any explanation for my sightings and any similar experiences. Also do they send fines through the post with photos as they do elsewhere ? Interested to know how it all works here

  10. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

The choice was already made after the first answers in this thread.

She will start with the Aikido lessons in March, 15th.

We had a discussion with the Aikido teacher (an army Lieutenant) and he was convinced that for self-defense Aikido was one of the best sports.

A wise move young Confuscious :-) as you say it's a sport but it's good you've had a chat with the teacher. I would be interested to know what they teach her but I am sure she'll enjoy it and I am sure she'll be putting you in a few locks and holds .

  11. I know most points have been covered but I would say that if your goal is for her to defend herself then to be

honest none of them are any good. To defend yourself against an attacker, in a real life situation which would

probably be a man is very difficult and she would need to build good technique and an ability to stay calm in a

serious situation . BUT as others have said learning something is good and better than nothing

The teacher is very important and a possible recky down to the classes to have a look and see what goes on. Have

a chat with the teacher, students etc

I would say... Muay Thai is great for fitness, flexibility and technique. Unless they teach the more advanced stuff it will probably involve punches, kicks, knees and elbows and involve wearing gloves so no "self defence" to grabs etc

Taekwondo is very popular and again great for fitness. flexibility and technique but it is a sport and therefore again no "self

    defence"

Aikido , will not bulld such fitness but will involve good technique, rolling and break falling and that Japanese

bushido so hopefully some good disclipine too and some focus. The techniques are made to use others energy and

joint manipulation, expect some techniques tried out on you... It's not so real life as punching and kicking but if she's grabbed she'll know what to do. You can always and easily do bag work at home

So , depending on your goal and your daughter I hope this has helped and whatever one she chooses I hope she enjoys

    it

  12. any help / tips / guidance and how to get to Trendy on the BTS ?

also is the translation and photo place on the ground floor ??

    thanks

Get off at Nanai BTS walk east about 200m, Soi Sukhumvit 13 is on your left going north.

Yes, translation and photo service shops are available on ground floor, please note that these agencies are not connected to VFS trendy in anyway.

Perhaps it's not the best approach in leaving something so important as passport photos and translations until the last minute?

Thanks and yeah agree not good to leave it to the last minute, was just thinking of a recon to go check it out before my appointment so might get the translation done then ....

How far down Soi 13 is it ? Is it easy to spot ? is it called Trendy ? thanks again

  13. Everything is the same except the money has to be in the bank for 3 months instead of 60 days.

For extensions there is no requirement for proof the funds came form abroad.

You may need to show proof of residence. Other than that only passport and departure card copies are needed.

Thanks, how do you prove the money has been there ? a letter from the bank or copies of bank books ? I assume not all branches are used to foreigner requests

proof of residence and of course the passport parts isn't a problem
