  1. The Rohynga portion of the story is complete speculation on the part of the writer or publication.

Human trafficking...selling humans, is what we are talking about.

Shunting Rohynga boats back in the water or ellegally tossing them over the southern border to Malaysia isn't human trafficking...it's poor treatment of a race ehtnicity and immoral, but it's not human traficking.

  2. I seriously doubt the RTP is even going to look for the shooters.

This happened a couple of years ago, at our house in Hat Yai.

I was awakened by a terrible noise, and after inspecting the house for an intruder, found a slug in the bathroom that had pierced the roof and ceiling. The next day the neighbors found one in their house, too.

The police were summoned and the sum total of their wisdom was, "Probably better not to sleep upstairs next year."

    Big Help.

  3. Is this really the only way to replace the bootleg Win 7 OS - is there no way I can somehow just install the genuine OS on top of the bootleg version??

Easy to do. Go to Microsoft's website...with your code key, download the latest version.

It's easier if you delete the cracked version...not necessary, but much easier.

  4. Any people had experience at the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur trying to get tourist visa? I called ahead to ask what I need to get just a single entry. They said completed application form, fee, and photo. I ask are they sure thats all. Yes. I ask a second time, sorry but are you really sure? Of course sir don't worry.

When I go with those things, they accept my application at the window. My US passport has no Thai stamps in it whatsoever. After 20 minutes they called me back to the window and said they want a bank statement. They were not clear what they are even looking for on the statement and I had no extra time to return with it anyway. Is it they just want to see a reasonable stream of outside income or minimum of $1000 balance ot what? They ask for the statement but don't say what they want to see.

New laws for tourists say that you must have X available when you enter the country for expenses.

Doesn't matter how many times you've entered the country, or not. If you cross at a land border they may ask to see the cash upfront.

Did you not spend any time on the Thailand Foreign Ministry website to see what was required, or access the KL Embassy website to see what requirements were from them?

This is Thailand. Every office dances to a different tune, but I've found the KL Embassy to be one of the most reasonable ones. You could have provided a screen shot of your account, or a bankbook with the current balance and have been okay.

  5. Taxi should not be more than 600 baht. HY/Dannok. I've lived in the Hat for nearly a decade, now work in Malaysia and sometimes use taxis or buses to get to the border.

If you don't want taxi or kamikaze van, get on one of the buses going south (cheap)...get off at the border, get a motosai to take you through and bring you back (100 baht) to the duty free, where you can get a taxi back to Hat Yai for 600 baht.

I would only recommend Sadao/Dannok now, if you have ANY exemptions in your passport this year. Pedang Besar is run by idiots, who can only do the "four count"...doesn't matter if you have months between each exemption....and have never stayed 30 days over the past year (I'm only home weekends, maybe once every 6 weeks).

At Dannok...they counted, as well...counted twice, this past weekend, but I had my Malaysia resident card and my work visa in the passport and he let me in...though it's probably my 6th or 7th exemption for the year.

  6. Once.

Why? Are you on the run or a travelling salesman?

Absolutely wrong. The OP is a tourist. There are no rules limiting how many times you can enter Thailand (on a visa exempt). You can do that as long you don't do back-to-back out/in to stay in country continuously..

Sorry, that's wrong. Once is the correct answer...depending on where you cross.

Pedang Besar...once, and only once, because that is what the law reads. Different offices are now interpreting the law differently.

Dannok/Sadao can several times...and the two are only an hour apart.

  7. If they do actually comply to their own guideline then it should only be people who are spending the majority of their time in Thailand using exemptions or endless tourist Visa's who will be denied entry

If I read the new guidelines correctly then not all immi officers are following their own guidelines.

I work in Malaysia, my family has remained in Hat Yai. I manage to get home for a weekend, maybe once a month.

I was denied entry this past weekend (on my wedding anniversary, no less) because I had more than 4 entries into the country this year.

It didn't matter that I am not doing "visa runs", it did not matter that my normal stay is no longer than 3 days...they tossed me back, without asking any questions, strictly on the 4-visit rule.
