  1. The Insurance company Axa will take care of it.....They told me I will have to pay them 810 Baht for tax and of course their new policy. My friend already gave me that money and he says it is about the same as what he paid last year (but in October 2017 and NOT in september ).  That policy will cost 6000 baht but THAT is for an insurance that actually covers something. Not some Bull....t- government thing . The amount is the same as last year AND they will add me to the new policy for free. So I am happy in the end it will be taken care off.

If the government tax is included in the 6000 baht...ok with me. But at least by doing it this way it wil in NO way been paid twice. And that was what yesterday pissed me off.

One thing I after 15 years in Thailand already knew but what was confirmed yesterday again. If one deals with companies in Thailand...stick to the ones that have branches in the real world. Companies with only branches in LaLa-land better avoid.

Already a big thank you to Axa.

  2. Thank you all for your comments......I called the insurance company of my friend yesterday and they offered to take the car to Hang Dong transport office in Chiang Mai monday themselves. No charge. I went at the other transport office near the Ping river which is ....according to the insurance guy.....known for trying to scamm.

They confirmed my opinion...the car is insured at the moment of paying the tax and it will be after that as the insurance of my friend automatically renews .To be sure I will pay that insurance coming monday so there will be proof that the car is insured now and (because I then paid the next year too) for the next year. The insurance company will add me on the new polis as second driver so when the car finally comes on my name the policy will not have to be changed.

Result :I will not have to pay the f..king government insurance.

When I see what that insurance covers I just think it is a joke to call that an insurance. The longer I am coming here (now 15 years ) the more I see that this country with its silly rules is going down the drain.

I Gov insured mine last month, they tear off the bit for doing the tax and stapled in the blue book, l tax mine the end of this month. See if the bit of paper is stapled in the blue book..If not ask your chum where it is...

I do mine at an agents, none of that queuing up lark, think the charge was 50bht..

It is in the blue book yes.....so now only pay tax......insurance before 19th of october .

Thanks for your advice about using an agent

  5. That

When the car was taxed last year they tear off the bottom of the gov compulsory document so you can tax it. Then your chum had to renew the insurance when it expired last October with the tear off strip still attached to use on the 18th September...

Yes that is exactly what I thought...so If I understand it correctly the guy behind the counter was wrong...yes ?

  6. The tax for my 80 year friends car is due 18th of September 2018. As he, because of a recent operation, is in hospital he asked me to do it for him.

His insurance policy dates that the car is insured until 19th of October 2018 so I thought ok...I have the blue book...have the policy stating that the car is insured until October 19th and in the morning had it checked. So when ready to pay the annual tax the guy behind the counter told me I had to get a new insurance first. I resfused as the car IS insured.

That would not be a problem if the car would stay on my friends name but we are waiting for the needed immigration "proof of residence"-papers on both our names and transfer the car from him on to me. These papers will be ready end of September so before the date the insurance stops (19th of October).

I asked the guy what would happen if I bought the insurance now and then transfer the car on to my name. He told me that then I had to have the car checked again AND pay again for insurance. AND that there would not be a refund for the insurance he wanted me to buy today.  This in my opinion is cheating. In Europe when I sell my car and there is still Insurance time left I get a refund for the remaining days. That in my opinion is how it should be here too.

This is not about the money but I feel this is cheating if what he told me is true. This insurance offered by the government does not cover much anyway.

So for now I put the car in the garage where it will stay until I can transfer it on to my name. I will not use it at all until the Immigration papers are there. Then I will transfer the car to my name and pay this so called insurance. ONCE.

I repeat ...this is not about the money.....but if there is one thing that really pi..es me off it is cheating.

My question: was the guy behind the counter right when he told me to get an new insurance AND that there would be no refund if the car would be transfered on my name within 10 days ?.

Oh one more thing how long is the report that the car was technical ok valid ?.

  7. Just returned from Vientiane yesterday.  Got my Tourist visa without any questions about money. Only was asked if I had a flight out.....showed my ticket and that was all.

Very easy......both at the consulate as well as at the bridge.

Had the 20.000 baht in cash with me but no questions. Nobody in the 4 lines at the bridge as far as I could see got any question about money.

  8. Hi

In two weeks my tourist visa  issued at the Thai consulate in Amsterdam expires. Arrived nearly three months ago and extended it with 30 days  at immigration Chiang Mai. I must get out before August 31 but as I want to stay until  October 20 as I will fly back to Holland to work for three months again. I think getting a new Tourist Visa at Vientiane would be the best option. I am Dutch and frequently visited Thailand in the past

My passport is new (issued 3 march 2017 in Holland) and has only the Amsterdam Visa in it. And there are no remarks about that in my passport

My last tourist visa from Vientiane dates back to 29 may 2015...after that I did not ask for another one until the present one from Amsterdam but traveled regularly to Thailand by using the 30 days visa exception forms always extended with 30 more days at Chiang Mai or Pattaya immigration.

    I have two questions

    - Will I get another one at Vientiane ? Will it be difficult ?

    - if I read the latest post here for the visa I have to bring/show:

    1. 2 pictures

    2. my Dutch passport

3 copies of the pages in my passport showing my picture; my old Thai visa; My Laos visa

    4 1000 baht

5 20.000 baht in cash to show at the bridge in Nong Khai . I not like to carry a lot of cash with me but if there is  a possibility that not having it in cash would mean troubles I would of course bring it.

6 info about my next address in Thailand after entering

Do I also have to show them a copy of my return-ticket back to Europe. ?

  9. I entered Thailand 11 november 2016 on a 30 days exemption coming from Brussels. I have been in Thailand before this year (period 24 may until 8 september by using 30 days exemption + buy 30 days at immigration...then flying out to Kuala Lumpur and after returning at DMK doing this again; this went all very well...there were no problems). My last tourist visa dates back to 24 april 2015.

I not work here but when in between projects in Europe I like to be in Thailand.

My passport (issued 7 november 2012 and valid until 7 november 2017) is full of stamps but between every stay there is always a period of at least two months that I have not been in Thailand.

When I arrived 11 november the immigration officer had problems with the many stamps, asked me where I worked and how long I would stay...I answered that I worked in Europe and gave him some names of the companies I work for there and offered to call them but he said no and he handed me over to a senior officer who just took me to another desk and stamped me in only telling me "next time get a visa".

I will be flying back to Europe january 5 2017 so I would have enough with a 1.900 baht 30 days extension(would save me the trip to Vientiane)  but I not have a good feeling. I saw the 1st immigration officer typing something while talking to me but of course could not see if that was connected to me.

My question is: should I try to get another 30 days ...then fly out back to Europe and get me a new clean passport(will have to do that anyway) or better go to Vientiane and get me a tourist visa even if it is for only 1 month ?.

Looking forward to hear your opinion.

  10. As I opened this topic I am now back

I did fly in and out on the same day from Don Muang last sunday and............I had NO problems at all.

No problemsat immigration when re-entering and no problems/ asking by Air Asia about a return ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days-period.

And it saved me time and money

By the way...still waiting for my teaching-papers.....but this is Thailand

  11. I will start teaching soon and am waiting for my all papers being made ready to go to Vientiane to get the correct visa for that. But they are not ready yet so I am looking for an alternative until they arrive.

I arrived here from Holland (I am Dutch) on the 28th of april with a 30 days exemption and bought me another 30 days at Jomtien immigration.I have to leave 26 june. If possible I want to avoid, should the papers not arrive on time, going to Vientiane and paying twice so I hope the alternative I thought of is possible.

Should the papers not be there before 26 june I will fly out to Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia and return the same day . That should give me another 30 days (with perhaps the possibility to buy another 30 days for 1.900 Baht at immigration).

I did this the last time I stayed here too and there were no problems at Don Muang. That was 15 december 2015 after which I fly back to Holland on 23 january 2016 where I stayed for 3 months. I have a confirmed/payed return flight back to Europe for august 152016 just in case the teaching job falls through.

Will I have problems when I arrive back on the same day 26 june ?

  12. As the original poster of this topic I let you know what I did..

I deceided, as I only need 60 days to not go to Vientiane and yesterday made a one day in/out trip by flying to Kuala Lumpur from Don Muang in the early morning and returning the same day in the evening to Don Muang.

It went very smoothly. The only question I got when returning at Don Muang was how long I wanted to stay...i answered 60 days and offered the officer to show him my return ticket to Europe for january 18th. He declined and stamped me in. I asked him how many times i could do this and he only said: " not too much"

As I will, for the near future, be 3 months in Holland and then again 4 months in Thailand followed by again 3 months out I think this will for me be a good alternative to a single entry tourist visa.

I really liked this trip when I compare it with going to Vientiane. I did it all in one day so saved myself two days (i had to leave the 22nd so the Sunday in Vientiane would be extra and of no use)

-I liked Kuala Lumpur much better...it is no Bangkok but compared to Vientiane it is very ok.-I bought the return ticket for 102 Euro and saved on Hotel-nights/ extra Laos-visa costs so after adding the coming 1.900 baht for 30 days more the next month i still think this is a cheaper and an easier way if you only need only 60 days.

Thanks again especially Ubonjoe for all the valuable information I got during the past few weeks

  13. As being the one who started this post I thank all members for answering so fast and giving me valid information.

I've been reading many posts regarding Vientiane/Single entry Tourist visa after 13 november. (now here on a 30 days exemption with 30 days extra)

I will start my run next weekend as I have to leave 22nd of november according to the stamp in my passport. I will fly back to Holland the 20th of january 2016(return ticket is set definite on that date) . Applying on the 23rd and, if all goes well, returning to Thailand on the 24th will give me enough (60 days) to stay until the 20th without going( and paying again ) for the 30 days extension.

I would like you members to look at my checklist....did I miss something ?

    - passport

    - 2 pictures

    - 1.000 Baht

    - copies of my picture page and of both leaving stamp Thailand and entry stamp/visa Laos-pages(can do on sunday 22nd in my hotel)

    - copy return ticket 20 january

    - 20.000 baht in case they ask

    - copies of bookings for 24 nov-until 20 january (not complete but have 1 Udon, 2 Pattaya and 1 Bangkok-booking)

    Thanks for looking
