  1. I had to re-read this several times.....for the last 15 years I've been waiting for police to do their jobs and stop bikers riding on the walkways and footpaths......has this really happened?

Don't get too excited, 'Crackdowns' normally last about 48 hours tops !

Or until it rains, whichever comes first!

It isn't likely going to rain for quite some time... much longer than 48 hours.... ?

  2. Arrested and fined in this situation means "caught and fined". It's just a knee jerk reaction anyways. Everyone in this country drives or rides like a schmuck so footpath riding has been a way for motorcyclists to circumvent that issue.

BOTH of my nanas were killed by these typical thai lunatics. Maybe once they've killed your family members like many of us on here you won't think it's a 'kneejerk reaction' then! Of course we all know who they will say drives on the footpath *cough* Burmese *cough* couldn't be thai oh no! smh

    what are nanas ?

Nana is your parents mother aka grandmother

  4. Can never get over how so many people can relocate to another country and hold the indigenous people in such disdain.

Irony and disrespect by the shovelful doesn't begin to describe these ingrates.

I predict that you will "get over" it very quickly the first time you are hit by a motor bike on the sidewalk (or are a victim of any number of reckless activities perpetrated by motor vehicle operators in Thailand)

Exactly! Maybe once motor bike hit you for the 50th time like the rest of us you'll learn to hate the local people. Those of uss that have been killed at least ten times by typical thais no better than you.

  5. What do you mean by go to a person in certain places to expedite the matter? Hope you are not looking for another way, as your question seems to indicate that you may want to explore other avenues. Hope not, as there are too many here now who try their luck and then come back bleating when everything goes haywire.

There are many on here who will be able to give you advise on how to do it legitimately, follow what the genuine ones tell you and you should not hit any hurdles. From what I can see Ubonjoe seems to have an excellent knowledge of the procedures.

I said go IN person. I have found pertinent information elsewhere (basically I found the real answer) but I'll keep to myself until it becomes a firsthand experience, which I know goes against forum etiquette but I personally prefer not to post hearsay.

Also, yes, I already knew you can blah blah pay a 'language school' online and then sit and wait 3 weeks for them to aggregate enough customers for it to be worth it to them to make a trip to the relevant office.

  6. Apply to the school and pay the funds from your home country, you will receive all the documents necessary to go to a Thai Consulate and get the visa, 2-3 weeks.

I should have specified 'from Thailand'. There was a poster on here talking about how he got a Thai drivers licence on a tourist visa by not listening to hearsay about the rules. I was hoping someone like that would come forward and talk about going personally to immi or MoE or something like that.

  7. Back when I was single in BKK, I knew some girls and all of these attempted and successful rapes etc... brought back memories of how these girls protected themselves. They would almost never take a taxi if they did not personally know the driver and pay the driver(s) they used most often extra money to make sure they got where they were going...waited or came back to pick them up and to make sure they got home safely. This is back in the day, but I'm certain their safety tactics more than likely have not changed as they know how dangerous it is for a girl to be out alone. For men, it can be safe if you know what not to do, but there's a lot of quality tourists that come here thinking they are the King of the world because they make more money than others and stir up problems with excessive drinking and for the life of me I don't understand, but fighting over a working girl like she's the only fish in the sea etc...which promotes hatred from Thai Girls and the men they pay for protection and then you have the males who can have a good time, but understand the do's and don'ts of Thailand who are generally safe most of the time. It basically all comes down to knowing what and what not to do in Thailand, but in the 9 years I've been here, I've started to see big changes. I feel unsafe and many thoughts about moving have been running through my head lately and I really hate this. I found my paradise and felt at home; now the paradise I found is disappearing quickly and I don't feel at home any longer and thoughts of protecting my wife and daughter make me think it's better to move.

Thailand is becoming something awful and if the Thai Government wants to keep the slogan the "Land of Smiles", they'll have to go through the "Land of No-Tourists" until they can successfully tackle everything that Thailand has become and make sure that they can attract quality tourists in the future.

Are you sure that it's Thailand that has changed, and not just your perception of it?

My perception has definitely changed, but it's all due to the changes occurring in Thailand! You won't be able to get me on this...when I came to Thailand, I finally felt at home, but you would have to be blind to not see Thailand changing for the worst over these last 9 years, which is why like you said, my perception has began to change, but not for the reason you think...it's for obvious reasons that you seem to be blinded by.

The world is really changing for the worse. As it has always been since the beginning of time. Kids have no respect these days and that respect level has been diminishing since at least the dawn of writing. I got you on this one, gramps.

  8. People are commenting like these acts only happen in Thailand.

Sure I'm a male, but I feel safer in BKK than I do in most other western cities I've visited.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head--there is the Thailand experienced by us guys and the other one experienced by females.

To really hit the nail on the head, you should replace 'the Thailand' with 'the world'.

  9. "Shimato's son arrived yesterday at the Royal Thai Police headquarters to express his thanks for the speedy arrests in the case, and sought cooperation from Thai media not to pursue their coverage after he returned to Japan with his father's body."

He wants the Thai media "not to pursue the case"?

    Surely that's a typo.

No typo, just a glaringly obvious, deliberate misinterpretation of what the son said by you again. Media coverage is not the same as "the case"

And again more nonsense from you, your speciality.

It is not obvious at all that is what he meant.

What on earth do you assume he meant by coverage then?

Come on, enlighten us with your "wisdom".

Sorry, but he very obviously meant that he wants no more news stories by the media. In other words, no more media coverage so as to have respect for his dead father and his family's privacy. No more media coverage simply means no more stories about it in the newspapers, etc.

  10. It was a white man playing the guitar on the beach, this is what the police told us at the start.

This is just going to prolong the pain for the families, 3rd world mindset in this nation where the natives are known to have a low IQ.

"...where the natives are known to have a low IQ." Jesus, could you people stop saying this kind of rubbish? Factually unverified and blatantly racist. Why? Why even give an opinion if you have nothing to offer the conversation?

  11. From a well known BP thread "Farangs Cannot Know Thai-ness" from a few years ago;

"The general Thai view is that some farangs may know a lot about Thai politics, culture, way of life and so on, but they will never be able to reach the core of Thai-ness."

In a nutshell, don't even try to apply your western logic to what is going on here. This investigation is 100% Thai-ness.

They are reverse racist against you yew yew

  12. No is my answer. Myself, Thai wife and daughther are on the brink of moving back to the UK. Thailand is good for a holiday, even an extended one but we don't want to spend the rest of our life here. I don't want my daughter thinking what goes on here (and there is a lot of crazy stuff) is by any means normal. The schools aren't up to scratch, the culture has moral issues, the standard of driving is appalling and the climate so oppressive it's almost impossible to do anything enjoyabe outside during the bulk of the day. All things considered we reckon we'll be happier and healthier (physically and mentally) elsewhere. Each to their own though.

Each to there own? That's open-minded! I have three thai children aged 25, 21 and 17. They were recently at the beach wearing bikinis! It seems like we can't even make any money in our business anymore because it's so hot that all the customers go to the hospital while waiting in line! And don't even get me started on the quality of hospitals here! We might as well be back in the UK! I mean I understand we are all losers that couldn't make it back home and then come here with this bizarre sense of superiority. It amazes me that failing at life hasn't made us more humble. But I get so angry about how many times someone is not following the driving rules--oh wait, silly me I forgot there are no rules! Typical thais.

  13. .

I thought you said you weren't working? Here as a tourist and following all the rules?

    I'm calling your mom.

    ~

Thanks for that. Okay, I guess I should have said I don't earn Thai baht from Thailand, as a troll shield. Obviously I 'work' to get the money I use that I exchange for the baht that I've been spending here. Thanks, though. If anyone else wants to play, feel free I guess.

  14. Why people don't just check their passport right after you pass the booth instead to do that at home?

One officer forgot my exist stamp, went back to ask where the exit stamp was, and he simply forgot it....

It's your duty to check for mistakes and report them unless your mom is still responsible of you.

^^^lol, after work I went out with my friends and we made new friends, etc., and it was a really good time. I can only hope that one day you will experience the same. I wonder what is blocking that from happening to you...? (you and others with similar posts to this, smh)

(a big thank you to all the helpful posts, mine was intended to be helpful also, imo we can close this topic now)

  15. Hi,

I just returned from Japan yesterday and the immigration officer looked at my Passport for a while and then asked me how long I plan to stay. I stupidly told him, 'about a month' and then he decided not to stamp my second entry on my tourist visa and instead stamped me for one month only!

I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can get my 60 days + 30 days extension still and how to go about it??

Also, don't do what I did and try to downplay your stay because they can apparently call your bluff! I guess I was trying to be modest or something. The truth is, I'm considering staying here long term but haven't decided yet. But obviously I didn't want to get my tourist visa cut short! By the way, I don't work here, so I'm totally following the rules! I have been here for a total of 6 months, though, which may have been what he was upset about, but I know other people have done this for years.

    :/
