  1. Dear OP,

Be careful who you mingle with and where. I had a horrific experience and spend a lengthy time behind bars after me and my GF agreed to the invitation of the bar owner and his wife to extend our drinking session after closing time of the bar to celebrate the birthday of their friend that just arrived that day, and was having a great time. After talking with their friend, he seemed to be a nice guy and when the owner whispered to us that he had arranged a live female to female action show that would allow for full interaction, we said: Let's do it!

So the bar closed and some 30 people stayed and went up to the living room. It was a mixed bunch of Thai's and foreigners from different countries, really good! We were asked to contribute to the drinks fund (300 THB) which would allow for a steady stream of alcoholic beverages.

Some real good music was played and with people dancing and some watching it really felt good, a bit like the Summer of Love if you know what I am talking about. We were all served with a 'welcome' drink free of charge. Then after about an hour the female to female show was announced, everybody gathered around and (I guess) were really excited to see some steamy action.

The really good looking girls were slowly undressing, throwing their clothes and finally underwear to us spectators. Us guys were asked to show our growing manhood and it was announced that the girls would go for the one they liked most.

GF said, show it! I want you to win this competition!

So imagine about twenty guys waving their assets when suddenly the door was kicked in and the BIB and a camera crew came in.

Suddenly some of the Thai guest identified themselves as police officers and demanded I empty my pockets to see if I carry any illegal substance.

Emptied my pockets and asked the camera crew to record it and so they did. The music was turned off.

Was being ordered with a bunch of others to go to the hospital to have our urine checked for illegal drugs.

Pushed in the police pick up and off we go, had the urine check and went back to the police station. While waiting there I asked what I was being charged of.

Sit down please was the answer.

After another hour waiting I asked again and told if there was no charge, am I free to go?

After another hour the police deputy general vice president came in and came back with the urine results.and had to go for a second

And you guess it right, just us farang had to go for a second screening.

Went for the second screening and asked for two bottles. Told them just want to make sure I have evidence that could contradict your findings.

After that went back to the police station. Asked the chief what I was charged with and was thrown in jail, yes behind bars, fingerprints and photo taken.

Spend there about 3 hours and was finally charged with drinking after closing time.

    Cost me 200 THB.

  2. I sometimes use grease and wax remover as well, this makes no difference to the adhesion (or lack of) with the primer/surfacer we are using (TOA Brand automotive stuff)

    Hi Spoon,

If you want you can PM me your contact details and I will drop by and have a look at the parts you are painting so I can advice the correct product to you.

    Kind regards,

    Alex

  3. Yo Spoon,

Could you tell what the use is?

Normally an etch primer is followed by a 2K filler/surfacer kind of product in OEM after service.

The etch part of such primer is the phosphoric acid containing hardener/activator/thinner part.

There are etching primers that give a bit of physical protection as well so you could leave painted metal parts outside for about six months without being covered in topcoat.

The company I work for have both products available, just need to know the purpose so we can advice the correct product.

    Kind regards,

    Alex

  4. Buy one of those bigger rear view mirrors available in places like Tesco Lotus.

They just clip on to (over) your existing mirror but enhance the view a lot.

Keep safe distance from all traffic in front of you, if you are doing 80 keep about 80 meters distance if possible.

The first few weeks driving here I must have made a lot of people very angry when doing u-turns as in my home country when the oncoming car flashes the light, it means please go I will slow down.

Motosaai are the main irritating factor here as they will come from everywhere and don't seem to bother on whatever part of the road they are driving on or suddenly decide that the right strip just seem to look better so off they go.

Pick up trucks with those build up boxes or cages are another major issue as from my experience they keep swirling from left to right for no apparent reason other than they seem to think it will save them a couple of seconds to their destination, slow down until these feckheads pass you.

Going to Roi Et is actually a pretty nice driving experience as the roads are pretty good once you pass Nakorn Ratchasima.

Just watch the road very carefully when driving at night as there might be people crossing the road (on foot) in the middle of nowhere and I have even encountered huge snakes on my way there.

  5. I find it rather funny, now three years in this so called crisis the charade starts unraveling bit by bit just as I said.

I mentioned the next Enron and there we have the fraud closure issues. Billions and Billions of money used to pay off insurance contracts/bets. Fraud everywhere.

Lies, lies, lies and more lies and what for?

I believe we are just starting and have not seen anything yet. Yesterday I noticed that the supply of houses available in the US is enough for almost ten years when looking at the current pace of sales. Still new houses are being build. The biggest economy in the world but how much of that GDP consist of actual stuff produced domestically?

Just look for more crap talk coming out of the so called expert economists and other policy makers calling themselves experts on whatever it is and in the future you will see it was all crap they were talking.

Apart from paying higher taxes next year in some countries there is not much we notice here in Asia from "The Crisis"

  6. I have an E46 and had the cooling system failure. This repair cost me 130.000 THB. If I knew what I know now I would have done preventive maintenance when I bought it. On below site you can find the common issues with the E46.

    How old was your car?

5 years and just 80K. It really is a design error same as for the window regulator failure and rear subframe cracking.

I have to say that it is a great car to drive but apparently sensitive for correct maintenance when reading the Bimmer forums here and there. And I agree when comparing a Merc and Bimmer in a side by side the Bimmer just feels better.

  7. Hi Mark,

I really enjoy your posts here and so does my GF.

    Let me eplain.

I met my GF on the beach of Hua Hin. I was reading a book and it was my 1st time alone on holidays in Thailand.

Looking from the corners of my eyes I noticed this group of ladies that were about to take a dive into the sea.

They kept their shirts and pants on and I was very surprised to see that (Didn't know anything about Asian culture).

So the curious guy I am I went to them with my dictionary in hand and asked them why they did this after they came out of the water.

After an hour or so I understood that is was for protection against the sun. I wish I knew this during my first visit to Thailand with my Ex (Farang) GF were I got a severe sunburn after my first day on the beach and in the water.

You might ask yourself why I did go on a holiday with my ex GF but that is another story.

Anyway I found out that this group was mother and two daughters on a short holiday.

The oldest daughter showed some interest and with help of the dictionary told me she was interested in me and would like to have my e-mail address just in case I would come to Thailand again.

Mother and her sister agreed (after some discussion) I was a fine guy.

So I gave her my mail address and 6 months after I received an e-mail from her asking if I died already.

I told her I would be in Thailand the next week and then she told me she would take the 9 hour bus ride to go and see me.

I arrived in Thailand and she was there. No English skill just used the dictionary.

Went back with me to SG and she watched the English channels and she picked up fast.

I was based in BKK a few years ago and her English is much better than my Thai. She says no worries I just learn a little bit English and you learn a little bit Thai.

If we know too much we only have fights.

She is so lovely and down to Earth.

  8. Many moons ago when I was frequently visiting Russia in order to get a visa the required an HIV test, if positive no visa.

Company I work for now required HIV test as well.

Oh yeah I did get visa for Russia and was hired by my current company.

I have no problems with it as I know I don't have it.

  9. A few years ago around herroween I ended up having to drive back through NR but the road was flooded so we were redirected through the paddy fields small dirt roads all wet and slippery and full with huge potholes. A long line of pick up trucks were slowly driving zig zagging. Now at least these cars are a bit higher and have big wheels. My car a lowered 3 series (old one) and with those wide low height tires. You an imagine I was sweating like hel_l as there would be a good chance that I would get stuck in some blubbery pothole. Going into the wilderness the number of cars I could see was huge, must have been more than 2-300 all following each other all zig zagging. It looked like a big expedition or someting. Anyway after two hours finally made it back to the main road and then......uuuuuhhh. Or was it....wait...

Sorry I forget the end of the story.....

  10. Hi Mark,

I must say that the first posts I read from you in "The other place" made me have a bit of mixed feelings.

This thread is is just so informative and funny at the same time. But I can see some here don't really understand.

Please bear with me that I am not a native English speaker and my English language skills have been totally destructed while I was in the USSR and many other countries around the world for the last 20 years.

So please forgive me for my poor sentence building, spelling and use of comma and whatever that is needed.

I am in Asia now for eight years and I would like to know your opinion based on your experience when it comes to learning people cause and effect.

One example. One of the workers drove his bike and wearing a helmet. I asked him why he was wearing a helmet. He said because when I do not there is a possibility that a police guy will stop me and give me a fine.

I asked him if he thought wearing a helmet would increase his rate of survival in case he ever got into an accident.

Why you think I go to have accident he asked.

Should I have told him he drives like a lunatic, never minding any other traffic that might collide with him when he makes his crazy moves?

How can we learn such people understand cause and effect?

    Alex

  11. Just the fact that the OP actually talks to the mother on the phone convinces me he has completely lost the plot!!

Mom, hello how are you? Got enough whiskey? Good. Talk to your daughter, OK. She is having one of those, “I think I am a princess days again.” Ya same as last time. Remind her of the cold water showers and the jungle food. Sure, she can come home. Skinnies her up a bit. She doesn't like the farmer food anymore.

OK, I'll give her a couple of thousand baht and you keep her for a week. Yes, all 7 days. OK,OK 2500 baht but keep her for 8 days OK? Don't worry I won't forget to wear a condom. No, of course I still love her but you know I am still a man. Yes ha ha.

  12. He is 48? looks a lot older must have been all the thinking that made him look a lot older.

Anyway I have a friend who was cheated very badly. He is a young guy, goodlooking (he even looks a bit Asian) and married

a girl who was not a bargirl just a normal conservative traditional girl with a good job.

They engaged and later married, he bought a very nice house, new car a doggie and everything you could think off that would normally ensure a real nice life. She got pregnant had the baby and then he found out she was having a relation with one of her colleagues for at least two years. Did a DNA check to find out if the child was his and it was not. Did a second DNA test if the father of the child was her secret Thai BF. Well, it was not.

Ironically when he first told me he had a Thai GF I told him about all of the bad things that seem to happen to some of us foreigners when having a relation with (in this case) a Thai girl.

At that time I did not knew who he was dating, later I realized she was sitting right next to me when i told him.

It gets worse from there. After he found out she was a cheat he kicked her out of the house including the baby.

A few weeks later he was shot while driving his car. Luckily the shooter was not good as he hit my friends shoulder.

He tried to follow the two guys on the motosaai but the shooter was reloading so he backed off and went to the hospital. He called his wife telling her he was shot and was heading to the nearest hospital (a ten minute drive).

When he arrived his wife was already there (impossible when calculating the distance she had to drive I told him later).

He first was thinking that it was a case of mistaken identity as that was what he told me.

I told him to get the police involved and let them check her phone records.

He could not believe what I was saying that she might be involved in this.

Police interviewed them both separately. The next day the police came back to him and wanted to verify if she was with him in the car during the shooting as that was what she told the police.

When he assured them she was not, the police obtained her phone records and found out she had been calling her Thai BF 12 times that evening and a few minutes before the shooting.

I found out that this girl was previously employed by the company I worked for. After all this sh1t happened I had a good talk with the GM and some other people in the office and they told me they knew she had many short and long time boyfriends.

I asked them why they did not warn my friend about her.

Thai people do not do this I was told.

In the end he was able to sell the house and other assets and the profit was split as a requirement to file for divorce.

But the story does not stop here.....

After a year or so he told me he found a new GF, a Thai girl with a decent job.

So he asked me if we all could meet and have some dinner. He was texting from his new GF phone so I told him my GF would love to meet and have a good time.

My GF name sounds very much like his ex wife nick name.

So I text back that we would like to have a nice dinner together.

His new GF went crazy and told him he was a cheat and did not want to talk about anything.

He called me and asked me if my GF could have a talk with her just to ensure she was not his former wife.

My GF called but the phone was hanged up as soon as the girl found out it was my GF calling.

I called her through a different number and told her to <deleted> off and stay away from my friend as I was very aware what she was trying to do.

She replied using very bad language as my GF told me, so i told my friend to finish with her.

    He did.

When all of this was told to the Thai team I was accused of being a bad person revealing what had really happened.
