  1. http://www.moneybookers.com/app/

this service deposits the money straight into any account in the world inc thailand, fee is about a pound & you can control it all from the internet. you open an account in your name & add your bank deets & if your girl isn't pc literate then open another account in her name with her details & when you send the money you got into her account & withdraw it for her & viola, it's in her thai account. Hubby does this for the MIL as she had too many problems with the nationwide atm card & we wanted to keep it for our trips abroad. Also, she couldn't check the balance of the english account due to exchange rate but can see exactly how much is in her thai account before she withdraws anything.

This looks like a beaut idea. How safe is it?

I take it that you get into your moneybookers account and debit your own linked savings account. Transfer the money from your moneybookers account to your GF's moneybookers account.

Then finally transfer the money to the GF's linked savings account.

I don't like the idea of handing over an ATM card ...for starters it's against all the banks "rules and reg's" and what about overdrawing the account or the card is lost or stolen. Could cause some troubles.

Edit: Just checked the fees and it's 1% or 0.50 Euro max.

    0.50 Euro = Approx 0.35 Pound

  2. My wife was sooo excited to see Carabao in a club about 3 months ago in Bangkok.

Maybe because it was a small venue or he had a problem with his voice - I'm not sure but I found it a bit slack because he hardly sang much, some other dude cut into many of the songs and did most of the singing.

Couldn't have been too pissed to remember the words? :o

Maybe he was ...or I was too pissed to recognize who was who! :D

  4. Hi Thetyim,

Remember when you first tried Firefox after using IE? ...it was awesome!

You might find the same going from Firefox to Opera as it's now free.

I've use FF for ages and after 2 weeks with Opera I've found it has some great features including "built-in" email.

    Cheers YBB

  5. Ohhhhh and BTW...

For years Playstation dominated the console market due to mass piracy of games and the mod-chip. The easy access to 'cheap' games made the PS so attractive, it sold millions upon millions to be the number 1 console in the world.

It was a case where piracy worked in their favour - I bet Sony didn't exactly complain too much.

Selling loads of PS boxes or PS games?????

  6. I'm wondering why my wife and I haven't had these troubles - except in one case where I mentioned on a previous page here.

I know others have said "no problems" with hotels but in our case it might be because normally when we are looking for a place to stay (where we did not book ahead) I sit in the car/taxi or whatever while she goes in an checks out the place.

We don't walk in together and when she gets a price and find they have a room she comes and gets me. We do this mainly because I'm lazy and she speaks Thai! :o

We when we both come back, what can the staff say!

It's a crap situation and Thai's are as fukced as any place with racism or whatever you call it.

  7. I saw a new game called "Fleece the Falang". Its a race against the clock to ripoff

as many falangs as you can and then you race to give the $$$ to parents and other

family members, then it starts over again.

    :o:D:D

Yep and in this game if you use a cheat, you can pick your player as a falang ....who can fleece the "other" falang's and you get even MORE points.

...but loose points if the falang ripping off the "other" falangs gives the $$$ to Thai family.

BTW, in this game I choose a falang player, how much would it cost a falang player for a chip mod on a PS2? :D

  8. Thanks people that's exactly what I was after!

In Oz I remember there was some hardware upgrade chip to run the PS1 games from Thailand in a PS1.

If I buy a PS2 in Oz would there be any problem running the games bought in Thailand on it?

    Thanks for any help.

    Cheers YBB

  9. Hi,

I know little about game machines and I'd like to buy one for a child - 6 years old.

I'd prefer one that is popular and easy to get cheap software :o

Someone has offered me a second hand Game Cube but I think they are not that popular?

I'm thinking of a Playstation 2 but what are these like for software - Panthip Plaza?

    Thanks, YBB

  10. First they tried the Pratunan Park Hotel. They were rudely told that there were no vacant rooms and the staff turned their back on them.

The Byoke Sky Hotel gave the same story, but in a more polite way.

The First Hotel offered hope. My friend went in alone, asked for a room with a big bed so that the daughter could sleep inbetween them. They had, no problem at all.

Untill his wife and daughter came in. Also that room was suddenly gone!

    Hi,

I've stayed many times at the First Hotel (until it became a bit smelly and rundown!).

I then stayed many times at the Pratunam Park Hotel (until we bought a house in BKK!).

My Thai wife and I (I'm a farang) NEVER had these problems you speak of at these hotels. Always friendly and at the Pratunam Park Hotel we were given a discount card (Thai price:P) that we used many times.

Maybe the owners/staff have changed since we stayed there.

Even though my wife and I have had no problems at THOSE hotels, we did have problems at a 1st class hotel in Phuket when we returned back to our room at about 12pm after a good night out. The ahole behind the desk refused to give us theroom key because of my wife, even though the room was registered IN HER NAME!! :o

After an eventful 1/2 hour of exchanging words (at high volume!) he eventually gave us the key and we ended up getting a few of the nights free from the manager. These idiots (all hotels) should have a note with the key that there is a falang and Thai paying/staying in the room.

    Cheers

Edit: BTW that room was IN HER NAME - registered with her falang passport which was located in the room safe.

  11. In my case, after 7 years of marriage, she took off with a boyfriend 10 years younger than me. This would never have happened if we stayed in Malaysia. If you value the characteristics of your Asian wife and have a choice about things, stay in her country.

Funny you should say that, my Thai wife says the same thing about us living in Thailand. ie: easy for me to take off with a girl 10 years younger then her! :D

    ...she is just joking :o

After 10+ years in FarangLand she doesn't want to live in Thailand.

  12. Wife doesn't.

Wife's niece does and doesn't my wife "chuck a fit" when she finds out the niece is playing cards. :o It's about all the wife can do - unfortunately. Can't force her to stop.

In Oz we know some Thai's that can't get away from the pokies but near where we live in Oz, there is a large population of Hong Kong people who keep the local pubs in business and they very kindly support cheap pub meals! :D

  13. When you go to stay in a hotel you are only grateful if the room has hot water and electricity.

    Never mind how and why.

Yep, reminds me when I stayed at Baanthai hotel on the beach road in Patong. Fairly good hotel but looks are deceiving!

In the cupboard there was a light that came on when opening the door ...had a cra99y little switch. While getting something from the cupboard I brushed it and got a bolt from it. ###### hurt too and a bit worried for a bit! :o

    Cheers YBB

  14. It's hard enough driving in the cities without adding alcohol to it.

I used to hire motorbikes and occasional drive them pissed in Patong. That was over 10 years ago now.

Thinking of the risk I was taking.

    - No international drivers licence.

    - No bike licence in my country.

    - Pissed

Had travellers insurance but if I had an accident the company would have laughed at me! :D

    Cheers :o
