  1. I'm so lucky, I was born in a country where English is it's native language....had I been born outside of those countries and learned English as a second language, I would be considered "dumb" or "illiterate" were I not word perfect when writing in it, according to some people.

I would be very chuffed with myself if I could participate in a forum that was in a different language from my own.

I'm really sorry for the OP and I imagine you could do with all the support you can get....in my thoughts (prayers).

If we assume the OP is not a native (english speaking) then it would means the OP speak at least 2 languages (his own, + english) + some thai fluency.

The person who pointed on the semi-fluency of the OP speak how many languages? Such attitude is akin to the one I often get at work, with 'red-neck' looking at me as if I was the willage fool (I am french with a very strong accent) because I do not speak english the way they expect. Some even waste some breath in daring toask me how I did land such a job while being neither a Britt or a US citizen!

The very funny part of the story (the punching line in decent english, I believe) is they mostly stay only some month, and then are kicked out. While after a decade I am still here, getting a pay check with 6 digits every month.

So I am lucky (atl east I feel so) to be born in a country and in a time where english was tought long after GErman, Italian, Latin and Greek (classical one); because I do not feel superior simply because I am able to speak only one language. I rather feel like Omar Sharif, thinking in one language while speaking in another one ... having the mind open, with some empathy would describe it quite well.

And my apologies for my broken english, even if not grammaticaly correct (neither politicaly) I assume it is understandable enought for the usual public here.

Last, but not the least, the OP would have better time to move abroad quick, and then set a rescue team for his son. There are progessionals for that king of things, and it would keep you out of the arm way! Do not give up, but move physicaly back, because even if the threads are real, they are only localized. You on the other hand will have a very long range action, as law will be in your favour (even thai law will favour you, if what you say is true).

  2. Sexual voyeurs are sad timid misfits who run away when confronted. I wonder if there has ever been another case in the world where a peeper has slain in the most brutal and violent way possible the couple he was spying on.

Officially there is one case :

Il Monstro di Firenza (the monster of Firenza) in italie.

Same kind of Police, same kind of investigation, and same results. A US journalist did a book on it, then was invited in Italy, and .... judged, jailed ... for having tell what he believed was the truth (that the investigation was botched).

The investigation found a peeper guy guilty (as he was also medicaly an idiot he did not have the capacity to explain himself).

  3. Gangthai is completely right.....you all moan about injustice and how bad Thailand is and you won't accept when a suspect confesses to a crime...what more do the Thai Police have to do?.....pathetic farang that want to live in Thailand and criticize Thailand forever.

Can you not accept the positives of Thailand?

Beautiful country, wonderful religion, wonderful King, best food, most illustrious history, friendly people, beautiful culture, amazing Thailand......why do you only bitch about Thailand?

Can you not see the corruption and badness in any other country?

I am truly blessed to live in the best country in the world and to respect Thai law and to abide by Thai law.....I don't understand the moaning and griping.....if you don't like Thai law....go back to your country...if you love Thailand stay and be respectful of the wonderful culture and kindness of the most amazing people in the world....you can be pathetic and criticize but Thailand is Number One and always will be

I think it is showing very poor taste that to associate, even by good way, His Majesty Rama IX with this pathetic story, ans with some poorly redacted 'propaganda' statement.

I do understand you are thai, so I would advice you to be more careful when the choice of your exemples when you are commenting on a very sensible subject for the expatriate community.

Futhermore, your way of patronizing most of the posters here (who may or may not agree with you) is simply disgusting. While we moan and whinne, at least it is for something real and that important : THE LIFE OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS OR FELLOW EXPATRIATE.

Your post is simply outrageous, to the departed familly, to most of the posters here (whatever their opinion), and even to Thailand (as you dared to associate His Majesty with the crimeS). In fact I was so shocked that I had to report you and your post to the moderators, and ask my boss for a personal leave from office.

  4. Its like sweet music to me....smile.png

The last time I did confirmed the lady was indeed lovely, I had to jump from the balcony located 3rd floor only wearing underwears. So I do hope you will forget me to cast any judgement on yours ... anyway beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, at least I was told so!

  5. i too love living in thailand,, yes love,

im the same when i land for my 35 days off, i do 35 /35, i cant wait to get home,

ive worked as many have in some bad places, i was in IRAQ earlier this year,, was a hell hole, was on stage 2 lock down on the camp after 4 days,( s££t myself,)

thailand isnt to bad when you think of some of the other places in this world and the trouble in these places,,

yes it has its problems, so do most countrys,

ill stick with thailand thank you,, i love it, and my family

I just knocked back a job in Iraq as it happens.

When you pick one of the worst most dangerous countries in the world to compare with Thailand. You're right Thailand ain't so bad.

Also I'd be willingly to say Thailand is probably better than Syria also. And probably better than Congo and Somalia as well. Although without ever visiting those countries, I can't say for sure.

I would beg to disagree about Congo (both of them), depending of the city, life can also be great in both Congo.

  6. Hello to the OP

Colours and tastes (notice I spelled it C O L O U R, as you are a britt) are personal. To each the perfect one.

Personaly, I never ever loved Thailand for a lot of reasons, the main being I am a weak person and there are so many temptations here.

To the question : Why are you still here after 15 years? there is only one response : In my own country it is almost impossible for a man of my age (53) to get a decent job with decent wages; while here I am 'upper managment', not because language skills (I barely speak or write english, and I speak 20 words of thai), but because I am an hardworking seasoned IT professional.

So while I do NOT love Thailand, I am hugely grateful to that country and to the its inhabitants to have offer me of 2nd chance, and the capacity to show my qualities. For that, Thailand and Thai people did earned my respect (respect and love are 2 differents matters, not related).

the bottom line, I will not retire here, but come for extended vacations when I will be in age of stop working.

  7. 2012

I was waiting for the train to arrive at the station.......train stopped and the railway station filled up with new arrivals and tuk tuk drivers.

One of the new arrivals asked me the way to the border with Laos.....on walking distance i replied.......and was nearly molested by a tuk tuk driver accusing me of robbing him from a 200 bath opportunity.

and all i did was merely being polite, something the local tuk tuk drivers never heard off.

    TIT

    Nong Kwai?

  8. I was at this concert in 1981, Donington Park, it was great stuff !

    I hate that singer!

AC/DC was Angus + Bon. Bon Scott was a true singer, gifted with huge vocal capabilities. I remember to have see them in France (with the local hard rock band Trust who were close friend with Angus and Bon), and Bon Scott surprised us with a blues(!!!!!! low tone voice) at the end of the show.

My sympahties to Angus/Malcom and their famillies and loved one.

  9. I am in Montréal right now (see my IP Address) obviously not in Thailand, have not failed in life (since I can afford to live in Montréal) but will move to Brussels next week (because it will get too cold here), was in Bangkok early September and did not want to stay in that ugly city.

    Are you happy now?

Montreal cold? You Sisi lol, you never experienced winter in Franche Comte (near Mouthe or near Valdahon) ... minus 35 celsius assured for 6 month, with peaks at minus 43 celsius. Witnessed even - 47 celsius (temp given at 03.00 am, obviously). Played rugby by minus 20 celsius too (02.00 pm here).

Monthreal is middly cold, just that.

P.S. Based on your nick, I am assuming you do know where Franche Comte is (mean you are french, as tartempion is only used in France, and in some part around Fleurier and Yverdon).

  10. @OP I think you'll find most nomads don't pay taxes as you need a work permit to pay taxes, and securing a work permit requires hiring 4 Thais, not something nomads want to do.

    I am not so sure.

In the past (10 years ago), you could claim a visa and a wp, and you showed to have pay taxes during a year for an amount not less that the one corresponding to aa monthly wage of 50 000 bht.

Does that still possible today? I confess I do not know, neither do I care, but it was for sure true in 2002 and 2003 (from personal experience). (notice I am not a bloody north american , but a bloody old-europe citizen, so it had nothing to do with the amenity treaty btw USA and Thailand).

  11. @Ubonjoe,

Would you please care to precise if the visa duration is 1 year, or 5 year????

I am so sorry to be that much confused, but my understanding was :

the thai Elite card is valid 5 years, and amongst the numerous advantages there is a 1 year visa! (if yes, my point still stand, the visa may be refused the second year, and that without an official warning)

As I might have read wrongly (old eyes), and/or totally misunderstood (old brain, alcohol, viagra, weed .... you know the drill I presume), I am indeed in the need of a precision.

I will wait (and others I am sure) for your expert response.

    Thanks in advance

  12. From the PDF :

    PRIVILEGE ENTRY VISA

To ease your travels to and from Thailand.

Perhaps the most important and attractive benefits attached to THAILAND ELITE Membership are enhanced immigration and visa privileges. Membership confers the right to stay in Thailand with a Privilege Entry Visa as well as extendable 1 year stays without the usual need to leave the country.

Members will be granted a Privilege Entry Visa when applying at any Royal Thai Embassy, Royal Thai Consulate General, or Thai Immigration Bureaus in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket.

*This Privilege Entry Visa is subject to the Thai Immigration Bureau’s approval.

So , even with the Thai Elite card, and without official announcement, visa can be deny.

Did I read it right, or did my level of english made me confused (I do agree my level to be quite low, so it is a genuine question).

If I am right, so what is the benefit of it when compared with other visa (that are way less costly anyway).?????

  13. Although I do not condone his actions, the do-gooders should see the problem we have over here. Hundreds of stray dogs roaming around in packs, many threatening adults and, worse of all, small children. A proper cull is needed urgently.

    angry.gif Your response is sickening...

I do have a dog, but yes packs of unruly soi -dogs shall be removed.

Need an example, then I shall provide one : In my village there is one with all the sign of the rabbie (at least those I am aware off), so yes it shall be removed and all the others of the hord.

Do not confuse btw a pet, that is groomed and often a member of the familly, and the soi-dogs who sometimes behave like rabbit foxes do in my own country.

On the other hand, I do strongly condem such behavior as the guy did in the OP post. That is sickening, who do that to an animal can do it without remorse to a human. REmove soi dogs from the street (even if it is with extrem prejudice) shall be similar to the way we remove homeless people from the streets (provide a shelter where they can became usefull again).

  14. Well, in february 2001 when I did my first and last visa run to Polpet/Arayaprthet; it was already like that.

the only difference being they tried to take me to a brothel on the Khmer Side ... Lol.

Nothing change because they will always be gullible people like you (sorry to say so), because it is their first time (I was as much as gullible me too) who will forget the basis (never ever give your passport to someone, remember vocally the crooks officers it is a property of your government) or feel pushed too much (at one moment it is easy to feel our life is in danger, but it is only a feeling, they will not kill the golden goose). Last, remember 200 bht * 10 = 2 000 bhts (a week salary), so even if you agreed for some help, DO NOT BE GENEROUS.

Very last : NEVER EVER USE A FIXER AT THE BORDER, you will gain nothing but troubles.

  15. Since a long time, unless you apply for a non-B as a teacher.

No WP application (not the WP itself) means no non-B visa at those consulates.

Aplication yes, result of the application no, because said result will depend on the Non-B (or its refusal).

    Am I right or not?

I do repeat I did so for 13 years (but not 2013 and 2014). So my question : since when?

Sorry for the tone, english is a maze for me (my third language to be honest).

  16. This was six years ago but I don't think the procedure has changed: before I got my work permit, I had to leave the country to get a non-b visa; I then came back to Thailand to apply for my work permit and it was a painless process. I am pretty sure a non-b or a non-o based on marriage is required to apply for a work permit.

You need the work permit approval before the non-B will be approved at any of the nearby embassies/consulates.

Since when? For 13 years I always did it the other way around with Kuala Lumpur or with Vientiame.

  17. 1) There is the need to proove you have the qualifications and the expertise for the job, and that they are better than those any thai might have. So the crucial need for those documents.

    2) I had to deal with a similar situation 6 years ago, my only degree in the related field having been obtain with AFPA (french educational system for people working and in need of improved qualifications or a validation of their knowledge). AFPA does not keep the document (at least they do not do it for Master degree).

    3) I did ask them to send a certification (at the name of the Ministry of Workforce) that I did went there for studying, and that after 1 year a diploma Level 2 (Master degree) was delivered to me. It was also written they do not keep archive of said diploma, and that letter is 'FAISANT FOI' (not sure how to translate, let say it carry all privileges and duty that a Master degree Diploma will carry).

So do the same, ask your university to issue such certification, with the fact they do not keep archive of any diploma, and that letter is 'FAISANT FOI' ( lawfully faithfull report of your studies and end results).

    It shall be enought.

You are saying there is no need to provide something his prospective employer is directly asking him for. You think this is sound advice? lol......

I understand my english to be broken, but I was under the impression it would be clear enought:

Point#1, I did explain why it is NECESSARY.

Then I pointed on a subtility (but is it your cup of tea?) that a TRANSCRIPT , as per anglo saxon usages , is not possible, but a certified letter will do the same here, as the relevant informations will be written on it (but the grades for major and minor)

My advice would be to take the time to read and to understand, even if those seems to not be your best qualities!

    Thanks

  18. Did my 90 day report in Phuket this morning. To all the 17 people who pushed past me to get inside as the doors openned at 08:30, I hope you spent the whole day there, due to your bad manners. From parking my car, to getting my photostat copies of the nessessary pages, to being called up and stamped, then back in my car..... 3 minutes. Before any of the rude people where even helped. Amazing what a smile and a friendly greeting can do, even in Immigration. Thanks folks at immigration.

Was not my day today (was 2 weeks ago), but I totally and at 200% about your report. To the hell with your 17 peoples (and with mine).

  20. I am not sure if that is still true, but it was a well know hack (by some bad peoples) to learn your CC number.

20 years ago, USA had 2 centers, that handled all informations for people. We are talking mostly about Name, DOB and .... the first five credit cards that will be issued to you.

What was interresting at that time was to get the CC number from people not in age to get physicaly one. Having that it was quit easy to go shopping.

I turned my back to darkside of the force since a long time, so I am unsure (almost certain) it is not possible today.

But I am certain having your DOB, and a way to contact you by email would provide me a whole range of opportunity in 'social engineering', and at the end of the day enough clue to your electronic wallet.
