  1. Hi,

I went to Ayutthaya in June with a friend of mine. Was my first visit.

We drove from Pattaya. You can drive to the historical sites and it seems they are spread all over town. Make use of the audio commentary available or you wont know what your looking at. I think hire is about 50bht.

We found a great place to stay, the "Yamadaya Apartments" its around 1000bht a night and rooms are great and huge you can find it on Agoda.com.

Just forget about the included breakfast unless you are Japanese.

If you walk up a small soi you will be in the centre of the night life, bars and street food.

When I visit again, that is where I will be staying.

The town was way bigger than I expected and I really enjoyed it.

  2. I am arriving on the 6th of June and I have not considered cancelling my trip. Pack your bag.

With the curfew scaled back to Midnight to 4.00am already, it will be probably be over by the time we arrive.

  3. Yes, Lansak has a Lotus express and I have it on good aurthority "Poo Yai" himself, that a mini Big C is on the way.Approval to build has already been given.

The Tesco is well stocked and has a small fresh meat/seafood section, small bakery (cakes only) and fresh fruit and vegies. I was surprised to see Aussie wines also in store.

I have a house in Lansak but at this stage I am only a visitor. Just spent 6 weeks there and will return in June for the rocket festival.

I met an Hawian guy living there now. He's hard to spot as he could pass for a Thai.

I have 3 friends in Nong Chang, An Irish, English and American. Another friend lives down the road towards Ban Rai at Bang Grag or Ban Na and a German lives across the road from him.

They can often be found eating at "Maw"s kitchen" which is on the main road from Nong Chang to Ban Rai on the left about a kilometre before the turn off to Lansak.

If anyone is interested in the rocket festival I will post the dates here when I find out when it's on. It's at Tab salo Dam.

It will be in June but nobody knows the exact date until about 2 weeks before the event.

There is long boat racing on the dam, motorcross racing and my favorite, the rockets. It goes for 2 days.

  4. I stayed at the Amari, nice hotel and very good airport access, 5 min walk.

Left my car there for 5 days. My parking ticket stated I would be charged 270bht per day. On my way out of the gate, the parking attendant just gave me a salute and waved me on, np charge.

Would stay there again if flying frpm Don Muang.

  5. I have a split system air con, LG .

There is a considerable amoumt of water pooling under the outdoor unit.

The condensate pipe is connected and drains away from the unit. Is this normal here due to humidity? I haven't used it for a year and dont remember this happening before.

  6. My car is from "Thai rent a car" who have an office at Don Muang so was going to try and leave it with them. Plan B is to leave it at the Amari.

I was looking at the Amari before I made this post, I thought I might have a better night in Ayuttaya.

I will still drop in there as Geriatric suggests, in my many visits to Thailand its a place I have only driven past.

    Thanks Guys.

  7. I have a flight leaving from Don Muang at 12:00pm on a Monday in Feb. I would like to be there at 9:00am so I can park the the car etc.

I think it would be rather boring staying in an airport hotel the night before.

I am coming down from the north so I am thinking of spending a night in Ayuttaya.

What time would I need to leave Ayuatta to be there at 9:00am?

Any better ideas on where to stay?

  8. Whats going on with paint here?

I got the exterior of a concrete house painted years ago, Paint just went straight on, no primer, sealer, nothing. Later tuned out to be interior paint that was used.

Got some steel gates painted recently, painted with metal primer and then was told job was complete. I tried to tell them they need a top coat of suitable paint, "no, thats how we do it here"

Got my wife to talk to guy in paint shop, he seems to nothing about paint either.

I now have a wall made of breeze blocks and want to get it painted. It has not been painted previously. I plan to pressure wash it first. Can anyone tell me what I should be using here to paint it? What is the best brand here?

  9. There is a pub near my place in Australia that has a high pressure misting system in their outdoor area. It works well, noticeably cooler and nobody gets wet. The system is on a timer and it goes off 4 or 5 times a minute for a few seconds each time.

When visiting the mother in law in Thailand, my wife and I want to be more comfortable. Bigger room, ensuite, air con, lounge, fridge in room etc, like a hotel room.

Cant see an easy way to add a room to this house. So are thinking of a free standing bungalow type set up.

Basically concrete slab and rendered breeze block. There is plenty of room to build.

Looking for any ideas, suggestions and expieriences.

  11. http://www.solatube.com.au/residential/product-catalog/solar-star-roof-ventilation/index.php

    Check out this link.

I have had a fan on my sloping tiled roof in Australia for about 6 years. Its electric and comes on when temp in roof hits 28 degres C.

It made an unbelievable difference to my indoor temp.

The new solar one looks good. I will be installing one in my house in Thailand.

I have insulation on top of the ceiling also (fibreglass batts) and now rarely turn on my aircon.

PS. it gets just as <deleted> hot here as in Thailand.

Also nothing better than a big tree to shade your house. Thai's like to chop them down though.

  12. Would have been good to join you.

The coffee shop guy (Nalong) told me he brought you to my house and were waiting for me. I was in Nong Chang drinking with friends.

Leaving for Pattaya tomorrow and then Sydney, Australia.

Next year I will come after the rainy season, these floods have really screwed up my plans.

  13. Thanks for the reply, sounds like a good deal.

Will only be in Pattaya for 3 days before I hit the road and not going to Bangers at all, so looking for a local purchase in Pattaya.

  14. Hi all,

Will be returning to Thailand at the end of the month.

I always rent a car from Petchburee car rent and pay 3000bht to rent a GPS unit for the month.

I am thinking it may be worth just buying one.

How much for a basic unit and where is a good place to get it?

PS. I can highly recomend Petchburee, I have rented about 10 cars from them over the years and never had an issue.

Free pick up and delivery, great service.

  15. Stayed at the Duenshine resort ( resort is a word used very loosely in Thailand )in floating houses and you can fish right out front of your room. First time I was there the water was clear and I could see many big fish right under the steps, about 25cm or 10 inches on average. I went up to Tesco but could'nt find any fishing gear.

Last time I went the water was too murky to see but a Thai guy next door was catching plenty. Probably the same anywhere along the river.

  16. My wife is in Thailand now and needs to renew her passport before returning home.

Can this be done in Nakon Sawan at the new immigration office or only in Bangkok?

Can it be done by post?

Also if she changes her surname in the passport to mine, does this have any effect on land owned if caught out as a citizen of another country?

    Thanks in advance. P76
