  1. Hi Random,

I am in Lansak and would be interested to drop in for a beer if your not too busy.

If you could send me your adress or phone number we could arrange it.

    Neil.

How did the bash go RC. Any pics?

    Regards.

Pretty quiet, I had one member "Ruud"come along in the morning but could'nt stay, he'd been planing a visit for a while but is only out here now and again. RCM and ChrisB came over. Billd766 coud'nt make it but was down the next day on a "flying vist" on his way to BKK that turned into an all day affair again. Sadly no pic's and no "curry" cos I just ran out of time. Not many falangs around this part of the world

  2. I just put a motorised roof ventilator on my house in Sydney and the difference in inside temperature is amazing.

I would like to put one in my house in Thailand, just wind powered, no motor. I have only seen large industrial types. They would be OK but I think they are only suitable for flat roofs.

    Anyone have expierience with these?

  3. Upon my return to our humble house in Lansak, I would like to put up a front fence. Mainly to stop the neighbours using my front yard as their parking lot.

I never liked the concrete block fences I see everywhere. I'm thinking about concrete posts spaced about every 3 metres and running fencing wire between them, then growing some vines on them. Does anyone have any suggestions of other methods or materials?

  4. Best method is to approach nest with flamming newspaper.

As the wasps fly out, their wings are burnt off and they fall to the ground.

The nest can then be wrapped in a plastic bag and disposed of.

For a huge nest, stuff a cardboard box with scrunched up newspaper and put it on the end of a long branch or pole, set fire to that and you have a weapon of mass destruction.

Its a lot of fun too.

  5. I have bought a house in Lansak (Uthai Thani).

It has bore water available, although previous owner took the pump.

The neighbours say they drink it but I wont take their word for it, is it safe?

    It looks clean.

I will post some details of the house purchase, renovation and prices when I get back to Australia, I think there is a lot of interest on this topic.

    Thanks.

  6. While in Phuket I would like to go on the Sea Canoes.

    Is it worth it?

    Which tour company is best?

After going on a few tours in Thailand over the years I am worried about the service I may get and spending all day in a bus.

    Thanks.

  7. I went from airport to Patong yesterday.

    Meter taxi 403bht

    Drivers outside airport want 500 - 550.

I paid my driver 500bht. I like meter taxi's better, at least you know your not getting ripped off.

  8. You are better off taking the flight to Nakhon Sawan or even Sukhothai and then taking a bus to Kamphaeng Phet.

A bus trip from Mae Sot to Kamphaeng Phet can be grueling.

When finally here PM me and I can show you around!

Thanks for the offer mouse, I'll take you up on that!

  9. Hi,

Next Feb, Mar and Apr, I will be coming and going from Kampaeng Phet a few times. I plan to buy a house there (for the inlaws).

I have seen on a map that there is an airport at Tak which looks nearby.

I would like to know what airlines fly there and from where.

I dont like too many long bus trips.

    Is this a feasible option?

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Try this one,

    Orchid Hibiscus guest house.

Located in old city at the border of the old city walls and historical park.

    Tel/Fax 55 633284

    55 633365

    mobile 01-9627698

Friends stayed there and said it was great. Owned by Italian guy with Viet wife.

    Makes great coffee I hear.

  11. I agree totally with Buadhai.

I also had the misfortune of staying at the Pla Loma Cliff resort.

This place is no resort by any stretch of the imagination.

The picture on their brochure must have been taken 10 miles away.

Some people who arrived with us, and had pre paid, took one look and walked out!

  12. I would like to stay in a resort next March in Krabi or Phuket.

Do you get a better rate walking in, or is the internet the way to go?

I notice the rates are cheap until the end of this month, but next March is 3 times the price.

Do they keep the discounts going if the resort is lacking customers?

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Hi,

I would like to rent a car in Bangkok and drive up country to the inlaws place.

The period would be about 2 weeks, maybe longer.

I have heard that insurance is a bit dodgy and hard to get full cover.

    Is this true?

Can anybody recommend a good rental company?

I tried the link at the top of the page but it doesnt work.

    Thank you, O knowledgeable ones.

  14. Thanks for your help.

My inlaws are in agreement and looking forward to the move. This is all between them and my wife, not my idea. If it was up to me, they would be moving a long way from Lansak.

I am not worried about selling their house as I know this will take some time.

The travellers cheques sound like the way to go.

    Thanks again.

  15. Hi,

I plan to buy a house next Feb in Lansak, Uthai Thani. My wifes parents live there on a property out of town, which bores me to tears whenever I go there. The plan is to sell their house and buy one closer to town. We will be looking in the 400,000 to 500,000 bht range.

First thing is to get the money there. Is it best to get my wife to open an account in Thailand and put the money in that? Can she do it from Australia?

After we find a suitable house do we go looking for a lawyer or solictor? Will they do a search on the title?

How long do these things take in Thailand?

I will only have about 5 weeks in Thailand so I would like to have an understanding of what is required before I arrive.

The house will be in my wifes name and yes, I know the implications of that.

    Thanks for any help.
