The human race has been on this planet for zillions of years without sun glasses, folk evolved over those years without sun glasses. It is a new phenomena created for man if they so choose to use them..

Personally I hate the vision through them when l tried them...

What's the windscreen tint level of your SUV?

Male Thais wear sunglasses when they are WELDING. Does that count?

It will be a blight until someone takes this situation in hand. I foresee many-a-blinded-generation Thai in the future, due to 'their' lack-of-knowledge of welding 'burns'.

Agree. Welding flash is on a range of wavelengths, and proper welding goggles or helmets are needed. Sunglasses are useless.

The OP just asked a simple question about sunglasses. There was no judgment in his post. Why are YOU so freaked about someone trying to discuss something on a discussion board?

If you don't want to contribute to it, then ignore it and scroll on by instead of trolling.

Professional jealousy, perhaps? They do seem to have got up each other's noses.

  4. Because they don't need them. The epicanthic fold and dark eyes are the result of evolution in a hot and sunny climate.

Body hair on most Westerners is the result of evolving in a cold climate. Most Thais think we look like monkeys, although I don't take it personally.

we always succeeded, my wife has been in autralia as my girlfriend several times.

the process of getting a visa for oz, while cumbersome, turned out a lot easier than getting one for germany. but each one was single entry. i try not to use an agent, no matter what i do. i don't like skimmers.

    cheers

I don't know what's going on.They seemed to have clamped down on visas for GF's recently. The concerns are whether the GF has adequate financial support while in Australia, and also if they are a risk of overstaying. More later.

Yes I am and I don't need to  explain to you ok .

Get bored in thailand because not much to do and get on and read about people who try to make  excuses for being in thailand .

what you  jealous of me .

when you have lots of money and I do , you enjoy it and you can do what you want to do with out try to get government hand outs .

George, I am not jealous of you.

When I was living in Melbourne, I was a member of the National Golf Club. I mixed with more multi-millionaires than you could shake a stick at. My name is on a couple of the honour boards  several times, and many of the people there envied me.

Many of the multi-millionaires were class acts. A few were total a###holes who were obsessed by how rich and successful they were. Their golfing ability seemed to be inversely proportional to their wealth. I took great care to avoid playing golf with them.

I guess it's not hard to work out which category I've put you in.

How would you know what I do , you have no idea what I pay and what I don't pay .

Australia is what made you to day ok , if not for Australia you would not be in thailand now would you and that is the truth but for some people the truth hurts.

It is a great place and you can think what you want about it , but 25 million people think it is great .

Housing commission home tell me more about you .

you tell me what is wrong with hard working people, not one thing , I loved my work that is why I am a   Multi millionaire .

Because I work hard to get there .

One more thing you say it is a sink hole well that sink hole gives you a life in thailand is that not true, yes it is , we will leave it at that .

OK George, you are a multi-millionaire, hard-working and love Melbourne weather. That's if we believe everything you say.

I'm just wondering why you are wasting your time with us peons on Thai Visa. The multi-millionaires I have known have better things to do with their time.

Hi, here is my story being a retired Australian in Thailand since last year. I have had a Thai girlfriend here since May last year. As other members have stated you will need to go to VFS Global to apply for Australian Visa and provide all the appropriate forms and supporting documents as well as providing Biometrics. Your application will cost you about 4000B, this is non refundable if your visa application is rejected. If you don't live in Bangkok then you have travel and accommodation costs on top of that.

We applied for a Australian visa back on the 25 July and we are still waiting for an answer. We were asked to provide more evidence of our relationship after a few days, since then no feed back. When we sent the additional documents by email we did not even get a auto generated answer as to receiving our email. I tried to contact immigration on several occasions, however, I have found out that immigration at the Embassy will not talk to you direct by phone, your only choice is to email them, good luck with a response!. You can however, talk to somebody in the diplomatic side of the Embassy, who will fob you off with phone numbers that give you the royal <deleted>''''''''''''ín run around.

Unfortunately, at this stage Thailand has been listed by the Australian Immigration as a Medium - High risk for Thai nationals seeking visas to Australia across the board, tourists, work, business. etc. They are concerned that she has paid you money to get into the country, then disappears and works illegally.

You do have one thing in your favour, you have shown you have been to other countries and your Thai G/F has returned to Thailand.

All I can say is good luck.

I'm having a similar experience. Perhaps more later.

Nice looking coffee shop, MissAndry do you know of any near Phayao???

Phayao is 150 km from Chiang Mai. Unless MissAndry is more peripatetic than I think, I don't consider she can help you.

Haven't particularly noted coffee shops in the Phayao area. If it's any help, there is an aircon restaurant on the lakefront that does a very good garlic fish.

  10. There's a coffee shop right at the clock tower in Chiang Rai that makes a good coffee, has tasty cakes and excellent WiFi.

Only problem is, their china cups all have spider web cracking which is unsightly and may be unhygienic as well.

Just wondering how I can tactfully point out to the ladies there it is time to change the crockery. I'm fairly sure they are not the owner, who would just collect the takings in the evening.

Can we try and stay close to topic?

This thread is about coffee shops not monthly stipends.

Why not start a thread on the subject and continue the debate there?

Now now JJ, if a thread starts to unravel a little you should take it as a compliment to the broad church you have created with the OP. No need to go all nanny on us, just enjoy the ride.:D

Can I just ask you this why would you give your wife a monthly allowance, I for one can't understand why western man give wife , partner, girlfriend a monthly allowance.

i have never ever give my other half money to be with me , not understand it , is it just a thing here in thailand?.

Ok back home if you have a wife or partner

you give them money to do the weekly shopping I understand that , but here I have heard of this monthly allowance Bulls??? , my thai partner put it to me when I first meet her and my reply was I don't pay someone to be with me , if your not happy see you later.

i take good care of her yes , but I will not pay someone a monthly allowance.

Most falangs here in a relationship with a Thai give them a monthly allowance. Sometimes, it gets distributed out to other members of the family who are unable to work.

I don't suppose you are familiar with the expression "control freak".

  13. There probably are; however, it's likely no-one will tell you. The Thais won't, because they don't want us to realise how much we are contributing to the economy via bank deposits to qualify for retirement visas. Various nationalities won't, because they don't want us becoming a lobby group or voting bloc.

I visited Chang Rai for a week a few years back, and it was actually cold at night, requiring a jacket...I found the place rather enjoyable, with everything anyone would need...and not so many farang as Chang Mai...it was just a bit far from BKK for me. Good hunting.

One mystery here - it can be cheaper to fly from Chiang Rai to Bangkok than from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, even though it's 200 km further. Looking for a logical explanation for this.

In the hills around Chiang Rai, government agencies issue blankets to the local tribes every winter, because it can get cold enough to kill.

  15. 1000 baht is a lot for two hours work, she probably figured the OP could afford loose cash lying around. And she did return the cash both times.

The second time with the 170 baht was actually entrapment. So he's fired her, and when the word gets around find he may find it hard to get a reliable maid. He would have been better off explaining to her the first time around she would be fired if she picked up loose cash again. Although the most sensible solution, which seems to have escaped the OP, is to avoid the situation entirely by securing the cash.
