I visited Chang Rai for a week a few years back, and it was actually cold at night, requiring a jacket...I found the place rather enjoyable, with everything anyone would need...and not so many farang as Chang Mai...it was just a bit far from BKK for me. Good hunting.

One mystery here - it can be cheaper to fly from Chiang Rai to Bangkok than from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, even though it's 200 km further. Looking for a logical explanation for this.

In the hills around Chiang Rai, government agencies issue blankets to the local tribes every winter, because it can get cold enough to kill.

  2. There are several good buffets in Chiang Mai. However, I can't enjoy them anymore because I feel overfull afterwards. And if I don't eat to that level, I feel cheated on the price. Just not interested anymore.

For the same reason, I haven't eaten at a certain American establishment for years now. The portions are just too large.

  3. I'm amazed at the child-like faith many posters have in insurance companies. Helloooo. They have made weaselling out of policy obligations an art form. Does anyone think the skyscrapers they inhabit were achieved with ethics and honesty?

Disclaimer: I have no policy anywhere with any insurance company. I insure myself with cash reserves, and they can all get f####d.

    I'm washing my hair.

I don't suppose names like Sarah Chang or Emil Gilels mean anything to you guys.

It's very convenient not having hair to wash. It gives me more time to read the posts on Thai Visa.

Those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

I remember the past quite well. The difference is, I'm not obsessive about it.

You only get one life, unless you're a believer. Best to make the most of it.

50% of marriages end in divorce ....... I'm thinking most relationships end before marriage.

I had 4 relationships fail before marriage, then another one during marriage ...............

If my marriage had been 100% successful and lasted until one of us died, that would still be an 80% fail rate in my relationships.

Unfortunately, you seem to be projecting your own disappointments onto just about everything you say on TV. That's sad; however, it is getting to be boring as well. Can I suggest you look forward instead of back?

Do you need to be a hater to think nearly all relationships are doomed to failure?

    Or just realistic?

From many of your posts, you are a glass half empty person. Realistically, statistics say 50% of relationships are successful. Don't know if that answers your question.

Your chosen nom de plume explicitly indicates hatred of men, does it not?

  9. I don't know what's more depressing - an account of a friend who is thinking with his dick, or all the haters that can't accept it's possible for a falang and a Thai to have a good relationship. Plus the inevitable racism.

Seems to me there's a lot of posters on TV with ugliness in their hearts.

I haven't noticed any old white guys worthy of loving for themselves in Thailand.

I guess there must be one or two around, but the other 99.9% seem to be OK with paying.

I haven't noticed any old white women worthy of loving for themselves either. They could never pay me enough to get in the sack with them.

Just wondering where you got the 99.9 % statistic from. The kind of exaggeration I've come to expect.

    This post is priceless...

You keep your Wife Mean ?... just to keep her Keen ?....  I think you've missed use the phrase 'Treat them mean and keep 'em keen'...

... but you also respect your wife and she respects you ? then why would you need to treat her mean? or keep her mean ? or whatever it is you meant to write ?

Or... do you mean she only respects you because you 'treat her mean' ?.... How do you 'treat her mean' ? the odd backhand ?

Now now, George is simply transplanting the mores of his Mediterranean origins to Thailand and Australia. Works for him, not so sure about those around him.

  12. I don't set rules. I simply give my Thai GF what I think she needs, not what she wants. If she wants something excessive ( rare ) I just say cannot. I respect her religion, even though it means a lot of trips to temples.

She looks after me very well. I certainly don't regard her as property. We make one another happy, which is all that counts.

Showing a person who is boss is for control freaks.

Been doing it most of my life. I don't enjoy ironing but I do a much better job of it than any of my local laundries so it's easier just to do it myself.

I love my own cooking because I love how it tastes and I know what's in it (more importantly, I also know what's NOT in it) and I haven't found any restaurant that can do good mince and tatties :-)

Do you make the mince yourself? If not, IMHO you don't know what's in it.

ironing is overrated…how many times have you thrown on a shirt only to see it develop wrinkles within 5 minute of waving your arms to flag down a songthaew?

Best to wear it fresh out off the clothesline, still smelling of Comfort, and let it adhere to the natural lines of your torso.

    Microfibre is your friend.
