  1. I wear a size 13, too.  I’ve lived here for ten years and in that time I saw one pair of trainers in a sports store in my size.  I’ve recently seen my size at decathlon but they were too narrow.

I buy on Amazon and have them shipped….import duty included in price…

I’ve long since given up after searching everywhere in Bangkok and Chiang Mai

  2. Here’s another thought…..

Your Thai license (s) can be renewed up to one year after they expire…without penalty.  If they’re still “valid” you have some time to sort things out.

If it’s been over a year since they expired, consider obtaining an International Drivers license at home before you come here…just to “CYA.”

if it’s has been over a year since they expired, well…you’ll have to start over here and get an altogether new license.

    Hope this helps……

    Thank you everyone.

@Tracyb somehow I could not change my language anymore, probably because I registered myself as a foreigner. Who's the "license folks" there in chiang mai?

I probably need help to get the residence certificate. I thought to do it through the embassy, but they told me that I can't do it right after I arrive in Thailand, I have to be there for a while to be a "resident".  Last time I was in Thailand (with Non-imm visa) was before COVID, I don't have address there yet. I don't mind paying extra to someone to sort this out quickly for me in Chiang Mai, or even in Bangkok (I'm flying in to Bangkok about a week before the appointment date in CM).

The license folks I am referring to are actually the govt officials at the Chiang Mai Provincial Land Transport office on Hang Dong Road.  The office where you get your license.

You can get a residence certificate at CM Immigration.  It may take some time…. However, you can use a visa agent to get it for you usually on the same day.  It may cost you about 1000 baht thru the agent.  You’ll probably need at least a TM30 done before you can get a residence certificate, tho.  Check with the agent about that, too.  Maybe…..just maybe with a capital M….they could do it all at once..(tm-30 and resident certificate…. I’m not sure.

where did you get your first Thai license?  Does it have a Chiang Mai area address on it?

as I and others have said…. We’ve not been asked to verify our address…only bring the residence certificate.

You can check with Assist Thai Visa Services in Chiang Mai for more info. They help with licenses.  Google them for more info.

That's probably exactly what they do think, but any immigration officer who honestly believes that a mass-produced letter printed on copier paper somehow "verifies" a passport filled with high-tech security features that took years of testing and millions in investment to develop should consider seeking alternate employment...

ya.  We can think of many such IO who should seek alternate employment.

What I can't get an answer to is am I required to be fully vaccinated to come to Thailand.  I have a home there and go for 5 - 6 months prior to COVID.  Do I need the 2 shots and the 2 boosters?  Can't get an answer to this at consulates in the US.

Ya, good question.  What exactly does “fully vaccinated” mean?

Very clear answers from both of you. I'm driving a car indeed.

Thanks a lot, I will download the Tm 47 form.

…and the drive thru window lane is clearly marked at the entrance to the Immigration office.  Quick and easy!   Oh….don’t forget…they’re closed between noon and 1:00!   Just did mine there three days ago.  Took five minutes most of which were spent waiting in my car in line!

    It doesn't take 3 minutes!

The last time (a few weeks back) I had to wait almost half an hour because one girl (probably agent) had tons of passports to update, another farang woman with a family of four had to wait almost 10 minutes just to update the 4 passports which is ridiculous.

That was my experience.  Clearly, others’ may vary.

Waiting ten minutes to update four passports works out to about 2 and a half minutes each.

    It is in some provinces.

Agreed!  It is required in Chiang Mai!  First hand knowledge here.

In Chiang Mai go to the Immigration office near the airport, to the small building behind the drive-up “90 day report” window, walk in and tell them you want to update your TM-30.  It takes about three minutes.  Have your old Tm30 slip with your passport.

  9. Holy mackerel!  I have TOT fiber in Chiang Mai with excellent service, 500mbs up and down.  We pay a tad over 500 baht per month including vat.  Wondering if you pay tot direction or do you have to pay the monthly fee to your condo.  1500 baht seems way too high.  Who adds the farang surcharge you speak about?
