อุบัติเหตุ (accident) - I have heard this word pronounced a few different ways now. Can anyone explain to me how it should be pronounced and what are the rules behind that pronounciation (None of the pronounciations I've heard seem to follow any of the rules I've encountered).

Beyond that, I understand there are quite a few words in Thai for 'accident' and they all seem very related. For example, if you look on thai2english.com there is 11 different words for accident. How do I know which one to use?

What's the deal with these? How much do they cost? How many people can you bring? Do you have to supply your own alcohol? How long do you get the boat for? I'm guessing the rental includes a driver? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

When we are making lists, such as in an outline, we always label using every letter in our alpahbet, i.e. a,b,c, d, e, f, etc. It seems that in Thai it is not done the same way...i think it goes something like this ก, ข, ค, ง, ? I can understand why obsolete characters such as ฃ would be omitted from the list, but why would a rare yet used character, ฆ, be omitted. Can someone tell me which Thai letters are omitted from a lettered list and explain why. Or am I mistaken about the way lists are set up?

Why is it very common for the audio to be off from the video on UBC (especially Star Movies)? Has anyone else noticed this? I have seen this happening commonly in several different bangkok area apartments. The TV is not the cause because normal Thai stations work fine. It's really irritating when you see the mouths moving but then the sound doesn't start until half a second later. Sometimes it is the other way around too. What causes this and is there anyway to fix it?

So if it's small pox vaccination (or another type), then why is it only noticeable on Thai people? I'm assuming most foreigners get this vaccination in their childhood or at some point in time (I know I did), but I've never seen a foreigner with a mark like the Thais have.

What is the mark/scar that many Thai people have on their shoulders? You can notice it on many, many Thai people, especially ladies since they are more likely to wear sleeveless shirts. On some people it is a tiny mark, on others it is a big, ugly scar. What is the reason for this mark, and why is it so big on some while tiny on others? Sorry if the answer to this question is obvious, but I tried searching the internet and this forum to no avail.

My girlfriend tells me there are some sort of 'rules' that determine the letters used in a name in order to make it appear more beautiful. Which ones are considered สวย (suay) and how do you know when to use them? What are these supposed rules? For example, I've been told you (usually or always?) don't use น at the end of names, only ณ.

Many Thai letters are supposedly classified as rare...How rare is rare? comparable to x? q? z?

Additionally, what exactly does obsolete mean? If it is really obsolete, then why is the letter on a keyboard? Would you ever encounter ฦ or would it always be replaced with ลื in modern writing?
