I'm afraid you are incorrect, the correct word is farang, if you don't believe me look up a dictionary.

    CANDA.

I'll split the difference and vote for farung. But only if you roll the r and ain't lazy.

    or, are not.

  2. Read the whole 14 pages. Don't have an opinion on OPs situation but will answer his request.

I have two Aussie daughters and am married to a Thai, though only 10 years difference in age between us.

I was never given an ultimatum about her but it was obvious my youngest did not approve. In the beginning there was friction but I didn't make a big deal about it. Over time my daughter has decided that my happiness was more important than her own views. I'm glad I did not push the issue about her dislike, otherwise my relationship with my daughter may now be not as good as it is.

Being married to a Thai only makes some things easier.

It does reduce the registered capital needed to get a work permit from 2 million baht to 1 million baht and at at some work permit offices only 2 Thai employees are needed instead of 4.

You can get a work permit and work with a non-o visa or extension of stay based upon marriage instead having to get a non-b visa or a extension of stay based upon working.

    Thank you. I understand.

  4. I'm in the process of applying for an Australian Partners Visa for my lady of four years. This is an Onshore application. We are well down the track of all the requirements and documentation required but still have two or three things to do.

One of those things is a Police Check for her.

We are going to be in Bangkok next month for a family visit so thought we would visit the  appropriate office on Rama 1 while there and get the ball rolling on the Police Check for the lady.

I'm sure many have had to get this check done and maybe things didn't go as expected. I would like to be prepared.  Any experiences or advice would be welcome.

    Jspill - here is a quick breakdown of what a quality guy you are for Thailand;

    600 days overstay - illegal

smokes cannabis regularly, (your words from another thread) - illegal

Working on a tourist visa or visa exempt - illegal

and of course, not paying income tax on your earnings that you earn while YOU are in Thailand.

Oh yes Jspill, you are a paragon of virtue and abiding the law !

    Love this theater. Such spice.

  6. My Thai wife once berated me for tipping at a restaurant. Her opinion was they were already making money and if I want to give my money away I should give it to a disabled person sitting on the footpath who can't work.

  7. I come to Thailand several times a year but never stay for more than three weeks, so never need to do a border run. But I'm wanting to do a day trip to Vientiane. Always skipped the forum topics on in out crossings so am unsure of the changes to doing this. Can anyone tell me if I can do this or has it been stopped. I do realize I could get a visa from embassy but just wanting a easy day visit.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. I remember going to MBK with my wife; who needed( wanted) a new handbag. She went shopping at all the small shops, while I went for a coffee.

When she decided which one she wanted and had bargined for the best price, she called me to pay.

After paying and while we were leaving the store owner asked( In Thai Language) her why she had bargined down the price if the Farang was

going to pay. Adding the Thai people need to stand together. The shop owner was really angry !

I guess I'm weak, I've resigned myself to having to pay more for many things because I'm a farange. It disgusts me but it disgusts my wife even more. Apart from my beer, motorcycle and petrol she insists on buying all else for me, with my money of course, at thai prices.(except for when we visit somewhere like a park.)

  9. I am currently looking at taking up an Australian based contract to do work in several countries across Asia the Americas and Europe.

The first two locations will be in thailand. I would like to register the business in Thailand and employ about 10 Thais to work for me. Once the work had been completed in Thailand, I would like to take same workforce to other countries. Returning to Thailand every 3 or 4 months for a break.

Any advice on Thai legalities would be appreciated.

  10. In reply to Nowhere, your statement is inaccurate . There does not need to be Falang blood on Thai side for child to be blonde . I've seen children of pure Aust aboriginal married to Swedish person have one child identical to Swedish father & 1 child identical to aboriginal mother. I suggest you google genetics

See last post. I stand corrected. Australian Aboriginal is interesting case.
