Thanks Crossy,
Any other suggestions where I could get this bit of kit would also be appreciated. It would be great to walk in find, pay for and get out if you know what I mean, some of us guys from the boonies get nervous in the "big smoke" :-)
Cheers

Hi Percy2
Is Fortune on "Ratchadapisek Road"?
Yes I know there not the quickest bit of kit in the world, but for FTP a lot quicker than my internet connection.
Thanks for the info, I'll try and find it when I get there

Sorry I know this is a very, very old thread.
I bought one of these when we were back in the UK last month, I'd like another one.
We'll be in BKK for a couple of days around the 18th Oct. Has anybody seen the:
Linksys Lunk NSLU2 "SLUG" on the shelves anywhere in BKK? If so where?
Thanks for any help

Last time home (about 6 weeks ago) I caught a taxi up to Khonkaen. I asked the lady at the desk (normal taxi rank level 1 outside the building) how much. She produced a table with varuios locations and fixed prices for the taxi fare to said location.

Immigration were happy with my Thai drivers licence. To get that I went and got a medial (the ones where you stay in the car and the wife nips in does the business) and marriage cert. Up to immigration and the wife basically guarantees my address with the house book. Immigration gives me a letter which I present along with my UK and international drives licences at the test centre, do an eye sight and reaction speed test and am issued my motorcycle and car licences which have my address on.
Hope this helps

Mark,
I'm just going through the visa extension thing. I do mine at Nong Khai, 27th April was my last visit to immigration. We have a joint account with the Bangkok Bank in Khonkaen, I got the letters from the bank and the bank books prove a monthly income well in excess of the required 40K. Immigration would not accept this, I had to prove I was "working" and they wanted a letter stamped from the British Embassy. Now it gets complicated. I work for a subsidiary of a Japanese company based out of USA, working on rotation in Brazil and paid from Italy, nothing to do with the UK at all, and I've never been to the UK (except in transit) in years. I've got a 3 page contact of employment that really isn't worth the paper it's wrote on. I take said contract to the British Embassy and ask them to stamp it "Seen by". I picked it up the next morning after paying the fee and presented it to immigration. No problem now they are happy!! Immigration are only looking for a "Stamp" regardless of what it proves (in my case) plus banks books and marriage cert.
Hope this helps

Might be a silly question. Am I correct in thinking it's the old domestic terminal that is back in service? I had heard that the international terminals would handle the flights?
Thanks
Paul
yep, it is the old domestic terminal back in service at dm - and i couln't see where that 20 million baht was spent on getting it ready
Thanks PayBoy

Not a shower, but in-between terminal 1 and 2 after immigration but before customs there’s a very quite gents. I get down to my underpants and get a good wash, shave and change of cloths etc. I've never seen anybody in there. Mind you if anybody did come in an see me they probably left immediately :-)

I think the angel is a little more subtle than that.
Our beer gardens will become coffee shops and you’ll be able to hire hubbly bubbly pipes (20 baht an hour), placing what ever whacky sh*te is your choice within and getting a different kind of high. Once elevated to your required level of chemical intoxication you can then visit the dens of iniquity that the outside world believe Bangkok is so famous for, to play the lottery of picking your female partner for the evening, however you will be making your choice by picking a beautiful set of eyes (maybe) and a pair of high heals protruding from the bottom of a black blanket.
The deep south will be appeased and we will live with peace and harmony in our hearts, as do all the other countries in the would who choose to hide their women, smoke hubbly bubbly pipes and condemn alcohol……
I once heard that Singapore was a nanny state……interesting

From this forum alone you will see many people have done many different things. In my case everything is in the wife’s name.
Personally I had a horrific divorce in the UK many years ago, and the ex-wife got the lot (house, pension, and savings) as I attempted to barter down my monthly maintenance payments. I did manage to reduce my payment from 75% of my salary to 15% of salary by handing over equity. With 2 kids now 10 and 11, I recon it will have cost me by the time my youngest is 18 very close to half a million quid. Should my current marriage go tits up (and I sincerely hope it doesn’t) it would cost me around 10% -15% of my first divorce.
The best advice I have read on this, indeed any forum is; only put in to Thailand what you can afford to walk away from. IMHO this hits the nail right on the head.

If as your name suggests you’re in Singapore, IMHO you will have a much better night if you stay where you are. At least in Singapore they won’t be tucking you up in bed early due to restricted opening hours.

A country of almost 300 million... Kind of hard to generalise don't you think. Good and bad in every country throughout the world IMHO.
If you've served your country and your people in any form I think it should be a point of quite pride... again IMHO.
Some of the load mouth yanks in the oil game get on my wires a little though :-)

I’m still a total novice and eons behind you guys when it comes to the Thai language. I actually thought I was being taught Thai then I find out its Thai-Laos. Never mind, she only teaches me Thai now and I’m determined to get there in the end.
Anyway my method of learning is: She talks and I repeat, once she’s happy with what I’m repeating, I write it down in English in a manner I can reproduce, then repeat until its hammered in to the old grey matter (hopefully for the long term).
Using my method; Nine = cow. I’ve never had a problem with been understood in Khonkaen nor anywhere else in Thailand for that matter.

I understand that the fee for the international school in KK is 30,000 baht per term (two terms per year). I would expect normal Thai school fees to be significantly less, though I can not confirm this.

Personally I'd drive it. A 7 hour steady run with stops, and you've got the use of a motor while in KK (No taxis here only tuk tuks and baht busses)
Loads of busses but I think you'd be going via BKK?.
I do the BKK - KKC every month, you'd save 2 or 3 hours if your timing was spot on. Up to you if you think its worth it?

http://www.thaivisa.com/305.0.htmlThe legal marriage registration can be done at any district office in Thailand on any working day between 8am and 3pm.
Any Amphur will do.
Thanks for that LovelyCutie. I'll pass the information on to my mate.

We live in what is considered to be the sticks of Thailand. We bought our home last year and the build has only recently (last couple of months) be completed. For what I would consider a nice 4 bedroom detached in the UK the cost was 1.8 million baht. It was built by a company and is situated within a walled secure (words used very loosly) estate of probably 160 ish similar homes. Land is where things get crazy IMHO. The wife’s family live about 25Km east of Khonkaen, we could buy land there @ approx 70 / Wah, 2Km from city centre and its approx 12500 / Wah, big big difference, but as they say location is everything.

Hi all,
A question for a friend of mine:
He’s been with his girl friend for about 4 years or so now and they’ve decided to get married. She’s from Loei.
He understand that he can take his divorce paperwork to the UK embassy for the freedom to marry bit, do the official translation and get stamped at the ministry of foreign affairs (I know all this to be true). Now the bit we disagree on.
He believes they can then marry in Bangkok. I believe he needs to go back to Loei to her local Amphur.
Could someone shed a little light please? Don’t care if I’m right or wrong and could save my mate some time.
Cheers
