  1. Hello

I have a 1 year visa which allows me to stay for 3 months at a time, but visa expires on November 20th.

On my last two overseas trips (in the last 6 weeks or so, they stamped my passport allowing me 3 months stay the current stamp allows me to stay until January 2016 which is clearly after the visa validity date of november 20th.

Has this happened to anyone else (its odd it has happened to me twice in a row), I suspect I know the answer but does anyone know if one or the other have priority?, do they actually check the visa on departure or just the spamp on the passport and departure card

    Thanks

  2. My contract says they are responsible for arranging the visa and work permit

Thank you, I was in a bit of a hurry when writing this and a little annoyed as my Employer said she was correct and you used to be able to convert a Non-imm Category 0, but the rules have just changed and so now I have to leave the country at my expense in order to convert it.

Its not a great deal of money, but she left everything until the last minute again, and some time ago because of her failings and leaving things until the last minute I had a similar problem.

So as I understand it from here you have never been able to convert an non imm cat 0 visa to a working visa at Cheang Wattana?
Original visa was based on marriage (1 year, multi entry 90 day at a time)

Thank you, next time I will post with a bit more time and carful consideration

Non immigrant visa classes cannot be changed or converted.

Normally you should be able to apply for an extension of stay based upon working with a non-o visa since you already have the work permit.
What is your non-o based upon?
Since you already have a work permit it would be best to go out for a single entry non-b visa rather than getting a tourist visa and then attempting to change it to a non immigrant visa.

you blame your employer but in the end you are the only one responsible for getting the right visa.

  4. Very useful and succinct answers here.I am in a similar situation, Can either of you clarify if the same type of visa applies for the wife of a British national who (the British national) is living in Thailand presently?

it is stated the type of visa is

,,,,,to join a partner in the UK/"family of a settled person" visa.

to me that suggests the visa is to join someone in the UK, not someone currently in Thailand, or am I reading too much into it

  5. I really do not understand people saying its cheaper than in any western country so its OK. its cheaper because fuel is cheaper, labour is cheaper....

When I can take a taxi, be it from the airport, to the airport, or anywhere in TH, and pay a fraction of what I'd pay in any western country, I think there's some room for fare increases. But it must be done in a manner where everyone has a say and files their grievances, including the taxi drivers. But the process to assess "fair fares" is underway and there are legitimate complaints to be heard from ALL sides. Not all of the 30,000+ taxi drivers in BKK are bad. But "one bad apple" as they say...,

The government needs to bring in an independent, unbiased moderator in to work the process. It's out of hand right now and nobody has really stepped up to address the situation at its core AND to listen to all sides in a common forum.

As a side note, many taxis in my area see me and smile as they pull up to take my fare. They know me and they know I respect them for their service. They also know I tip them as is customary where I'm from. I typically tip 10-20% depending on traffic and the route distance.

  6. I never thought I would defend taxi drivers, BUT, it seems a valid reason to reject a customer if they have to return the taxi and fear they will miss the deadline (assuming its the truth). I for one would support financial help such as a lease to buy system for taxi drivers to purchase their own cars and eradicate such excuses and at the same time reduce the number of wealthy individuals/firms who own fleets of taxis, one would hope you would also see a drastic improvement in driving if they actually own their vehicle.
