  1. Hotel for 200 baht ? Sorry, I do not want to be rude towards you, but you can not mean this question.

Those times have gone. You can find a guesthouse (not a hotel) for that money at the soi Rimkhong with lots of short time things and noise. Drunks all time of the day. No good doors and windows, your stuff not safe. Better count on at least 400 to 500 baht per day excluding breakfast.

Next to Lotus is the Tip Hotel. I have never been there. Ask them. In the soi Rimkhong there are some places with low rates, at the river-side, not the town-side. In Thanon Bantungtjit is a cheap hotel too but you share this with ladies who, let's be polite, have the oldest job in the world, as they say.....

Tuktuk trainstation to town 40 b but they will try to charge you more. In town tuktuk between 20 and 40 baht. To remote places up to 100 baht.

    Good luck.

  2. Swimmingpool, go west of the bridge. There are two big hotels, one is closed, but I think the Royal Jommanee has a pool in open air. Clean, nice, one shower, dress and undress in the toilet......no cabins....

Pay ? I think 100 baht per day, but you can buy a card for 3 months (I think 400 b or so) and than pay 20 baht for the towel. Local people swim in the river but I never do this. It is not clean.

  3. For about 5 years I have the Sony str-de698, dolby 7.1., digital audio/video control center. Happy with the stuff. For "in" I use my sat receiver, my dvd/cd/etc player and my Sony videorecorder, I can connect three 'in" things. For "out" I connect a Philips dvd recorder so I can save on disk (not harddisk) anything from TV and from dvd and vhs tapes if I like. It has radio too. My TV is a Sony Trinitron but the sound goes over 7 boxes, or 5 depending on what I choose. I bought the stuff in a shop in Nongkhai. FIVE years ago, maybe not for sale anymore. There should be new stuff now.... I paid, don't know exactly anymore, about 30 k baht.

  4. Mutmee and Grand are quiet. Phantawee, depending on the room. At the Rim Khong Road they rent out rooms, just rooms, with river view. Very quiet. Place close to Rolf and Kan's shop, between the Tha Sadeth market and the river.

  5. I find a Ban Nong Phai at 6 km east of town but no Ban Phai. Distance ?

Nongkhai town is lot smaller than UT or KK and has less shopping and no international hospital. IMM Pol youd find in all mentioned cities. Need visa runs ? Than NK is closer to Laos.

Come and take a look and talk to farang. What exactly do you expect ? Children, need good schools ? International schools ?

I live here 8 years and still happy.

  6. A condo. My dictionary says "flat" and "appartment" (I am not a native English speaker...) .

There is just ONE in Nongkhai called Nongkhai Condominium situated at the Thanon Keew Worawut close to the crossing with the Thanon Chayaphon. A bit west of centre of town; market and shops nearby. Nongkhai is not a big city. A many storey building, view at the Mehkong. Mostly used by old farang and Thais who rent there. Small appartments (one room) but there are things for sale, never been in those parts of the building.

Do you have a Thai partner ? In that case may be you better buy in a "Moo Baan". More space, more quiet, no elevator. If you want more info just send me a message and I will look for a broker. Good luck.

  7. How much do you want to pay ?

The big one here is Nongkhai Grand at the ringroad, reliable, the old lady.....

Phantawee is well known and good, centre of town.

Many (good and not so good) guesthouses at the Rim Khong road centre of town.

If you want good breakfast/restaurant service and guards than take the first two mentioned. They do not allow "short time".

  8. The Maxnet bull.... is a continuing story. Even a message via their website is not valid. It comes back. Messages by mobile phone are not answered to. They now have the same problem as other providers. More customers, more money, not more servers. So disconnect the farang; they can see in the contract that you are a farang. Their helpdesk 1530 gives me nice music but never a person.....

The option would be to change but Loxinfo is just as bad as Maxnet (I had that company too...) and internet per sat is bad when it rains.

Well, wait and see. I wrote a written complaint and will deliver it tomorrow......

    Expectations ? Zero.....

  9. May I advise you, for next postings, to put the place UT in the subject line ? Many people will not know you mean UT.

A good place is Charoengsi, centre of town.

  10. Problems daily after 22 h but also in daytime. Every day ! Complaints do not help, their helpdesk 1530 is not manned/femaled and if you get someone on the phone their English is terrible, even worse than mine. Sms-messages to the local manager will not be answered to. You are a farang and can go to hel_l ! O, but we do like your money.......

Phone calls to the manager ? Yes, it is your phone line. Yes, it is your computer, your router, your cable, yourself..... We will test it. But tests are all OK. No one confirms that the amount of customers is growing fast but that they do not invest in more servers and so. Or do they shut down 50% of their servers at night ?

Strange, their internet cafes do always work. Sometimes I think they discriminate farang. You are a helpless creature, they think.

    Anyone ?

  11. As far as I know......

    You need the green book.

If the motorcycle is not in your name, you need permission of the owner to take the motor into Laos. Therefore you can find a piece of paper at the border. Both sign this.

Insurance, you buy at the border.

Do not expect, if an accident occurs, they will believe the insurance. They will not wait for money. YOU pay or go to jail.

    Accident ? Farang pays.

    Good luck.

  12. I have cats but want a young dog, male. So, if....., well, if.....if it happens......than please email me.....

    And not expensive please......

I can find young dogs here everyday but they all are "the la rue" with lots of inbread and diseases and so on.

  13. I live 4 km's from the Maxnet Office in Nongkhai and have a "land line". I have internet access with Maxnet with the help of TT&T and am not satisfied about their service. They promise more than they give and blame it on the slow connection on the land line. Heavy rains ? Forget it. Everyday I am disconnected several times and that is not nice when I do my banking business.

Complaints ? Do not help. You get the famous Thai smile.....

I hear that you can take a sat connection but that does not work with heavy rains. The Loxinfo connection also seems to have many problems. So I can not offer any help. Sorry.

  14. Hum, advantage for Dutch people. We do this by post and pay by bank. But we have to send prove of our income, annual statements or emailmessages about income from the pension company, and copy of passport. And they check the stuff !

Nongkhai Immigration wants a new statement every year plus translation to Thai and verification at Chaeng Wattana. But by post is much cheaper than flying to Bangkok and joining the queues.
