  1. I accidentally lost my BB Visa debit card when I entered the Union Pay debit card pin number by mistake. Nothing I could do about it and not liking to carry a lot of cash around I use my BB credit card (there are those that do not agree that it is in fact a credit card and I await all the usual comments etc) where they do not accept the Union Pay card , Big C and PTT filling stations being just two examples.

I only use it for cricket, nothing else. So for me, spending 700 or 800 Baht a month just isn't worth it.

It suits me for my purposes. If there was a dedicated stream just for cricket, that I don't have to use VPN's,

    I would use it.

Watched most of yesterdays cricket via Sky Sports and it froze a few times. Mildly annoying but just refresh

    and you're away.

Like I said before, for 400 Baht per month, I think it's good value.

I have just finished watching the final ODI between England and NZ and as usual some freezing. Sky Sports cricket channel via MegaExpatTV. I am now watching golf from India on the Sky Sports golf channel and a lot of freezing. my comments to those at Mega Expat TV are ignored. We will see how communications are miraculously restored when subs renewal time comes around.

ilikehd is good but its app and website have been built to a budget not to a spec,

It is so buggy and not user friendly

britishexpattv.net allows you to use stbemu and smart iptv and lots of other apps that are very well polished and are used by lots of different providers, just be aware that if you are a Aussie all providers are struggling to provide 100% coverage of NRL this year due to changes in Broadcast rights

Skippy 121 and Will27 appear to have conflicting views in respect of IlikeHD. I did try it a few years back but was not particularly impressed. Having said this in this day and age things do improve very quickly. Perhaps a month's worth is in order.

My MegaExpat subscription runs out soon and I have already looked at IPTV. I did notice that the stations list and the overall presentation is very similar to MegaExpat. Maybe that is where it gets its programmes.

  5. Apart from the opening moronic comment thanks very much to those that have responded. Incidentally I am running tests through wifi. I have just been visiting a friend who subscribes to the 3BB 200 down load package but a test shows he is receiving the same speed as my 100.

What do you really expect from a company that's offering illegal tv subscriptions.
We do not tolerate such subscriptions here, and advise against others doing the same.

I assume from these crass statements that you do not live in Thailand. I love my sport and the only way that I can view what I want is to resort to sites such as these. If there is an alternative available to enable me to watch Sky Sports and the like legally in Thailand I would willingly subscribe. Finally Mr/Mrs/Ms Squeaky Clean can you truthfully declare that there is no illegal software on your devices and that you have never downloaded anything illegally?I do not expect an answer to that question because, bearing in mind your scathing criticism of my use of illegal tv subscriptions you are hardly likely to admit you have done anything wrong.

  7. Last year after the demise of 365 Sport and Expat TV I subscribed to Mega Expat TV and its supposed all singing all dancing HD Subs channels which were downloaded to the MiniX box which I already had. I experienced freezing and dropping out problems right from the start and my complaints were always met with the same response i.e. 'we have thousands of subscribers in Thailand but no-one else has complained'. In addition the sound quality has deteriorated badly over the past couple of months to the extent that some programmes are unwatchable. From what has happened recently support at HD Subs is blocking my emails and I get no reaction at all from those at Mega Expat TV. I was advised that the internet service (the basic 3BB) may not be good enough. I have now upgraded to 3BB fibre 100/30 but it has made very little difference to the quality. As a matter of interest I have tested internet speeds over the past few minutes with rather surprising results. 3BB own testing site 50.8/31.8 Mbps( a little odd as they advertise the down load speed as 100Mbps), Mega Expat TV support 86.3/31.9, and an independent site that advises not trusting providers' site, TestMyNet 17.8/12.8 Mbps. These numbers are poles apart and I am wondering firstly if anyone can explain why these numbers differ so much and secondly whether anyone is experiencing the same problems that I am.

Work permit is your property and your responsibility. Read the rules in it which state that you must always have it on you at place of work. It is also your responsibility to keep it extended before expiry, although employers will often offer service through law firm to help with process and provide documentation required.

If work permit is returned, and employee has visa extension based on work permit (extension done inside Thailand at immigration office), then such visa must be canceled within 7 days of work permit cancellation, upon which another 7 days' stamp would be received, by which "alien" must leave the country.

If switching between employers, within these 7 days, a new WP can be applied for, and extension (under consideration) made on the new work permit without the need to leave the country.

However if foreign employee did not extend visa based on work permit (multi-entry non-B visa, where 90 days stamps are given on entry and alien leaves the country every 3 months) then returning WP has no effect on the visa itself and it can be used until expiry.

Last note - if visa is not canceled after WP is returned, fine is a minimum of 2000 baht if caught. Generally people get caught when applying for new work permit, rarely while leaving the country.

So what? I was only relating my experiences before I retired seven years ago and I certainly did not leave the country on the expiration of my permit and visa. The work permit and visa expired at the end of my contract in Bangkok and whatever was necessary was done by my my employer on a particular morning. I came to Pattya in the afternoon where I had always maintained a permanent address, obtained the letter from my bank, went to Jomtien applied for and obtained my extension of stay based on retirement, no problems whatsoever.

have returned my work permit to the company.

I have always understood that a work permit is the property of the employer not the employee. I have had several jobs (not teaching) in Thailand and my employer always retained the permit. Needless to say it was always made available if I needed it - opening bank accounts and the like.

It is a very big deal as this is not a Credit Card anymore; it is a prepaid card. It's like you are giving a loan to the bank to work with your capital to just be given the convenience of having a payment method the bank should normally provide you anyway (given certain criteria of course).

Also, while I do not know your personal situation, what good is 30,000 THB credit. With that, you're unable to book airplane tickets, pre-authorize the rental deposit for a rental car, pay large hotel bills; basically everything I use my credit card for. Of course, if you're just going to the occasional restaurant and paying your Tesco groceries, then it's enough, but I don't get the point of doing that by credit card. What are the benefits the banks gives you with this card? Miles redemption, Dinner privileges, Hotel privileges or something?

Personally I do not use my card for any of the items you refer to. I do not like carrying cash and BB's dropping Visa in favour of Union Pay means that I cannot use that debit card at a number of outlets, Big C and PTT in particular. 30k is ample for my requirements; interest is paid, o.k. 1.5% less tax is not much. I believe there are rewards of  some sort but I imagine they are not that brilliant. Basically the card, no matter what you call it, is convenient.

Bit of a pain because you have to hand write the info x2 whereas the old one could be filled in on computer

just changing a couple of things every year.

The form is not a lot different to the one I have been using for ten or more years.Where does it indicate it has to be completed by hand? Typed characters are far more easy to read than hand written ones.

From what I've seen from previous posts, other ThaiVisa members who have applied for Thai bank issued Credit (not Debit) Cards were being required to deposit funds in a locked account, so essentially they were receiving a prepaid or 'secured' Credit Card, not an actual Credit Card with a pre-approved credit limit.

Correct. I have a BB credit card with a limit of THB30k and it was necessary to place that amount in a deposit account. No big deal really. No annual fees.

Thanks very much. Six kms would not be a problem.

I have googled Lifecare and the only one that comes up appears to be the one to which I referred in my original email and it is around 10kms from my house. O.k. that is not really a problem but I was hoping for somewhere a bit closer. Is there more than one Lifecare in Pattaya? If yes would you please be good enough to provide the location, preferably an address rather than just a location as locations can cover a wide area. Thanks.
