I did my retirement extension this week, very nice helpful female officer, was genuinely interested in why i came to live in Nakhon Phanom. I had a lovely conversation, and she noticed i was not well (wheelchair) and said about my wife just coming in and they would come to me if i needed them too. All previous dealings with Phuket, but what a breath of fresh air up here, in and out in 20 minutes, looking forward to going for my 90 report.
NP a great office to deal with.

If you get a maid/driver and she drives and cleans ok then don't worry about her spare time, at least you are providing a living to someone

I'm not sure that the bank can block the remaining money. I just ask ! As the bank must certify the money deposit by a letter to immigration, do you think that she is not required to alert immigration if you withdraw the money before term ?

Or get the single entry non-o visa and then go to Savannakhet Laos to get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage. No financial proof is needed to apply for it.
Always a pleasure to see your informative unbiased posts that help so many on this forum, makes a refreshing changed from the bashing goading posts you see.

#1, Why not go and ask your local immigration office?
#2, Retirement extension gives your freedom
#3, Marriage extension guarantees future headaches
The idea of a forum like this is to enable people to ask questions from members for advice etc. it would be pointless if all the answers were as helpful as yours. Please explain the retirement freedom and the marriage headaches so we can all understand.

I am with SCB and transfer my pension each month from the UK, when it arrives they notify me on my phone. It arrived yesterday and the message stated IFT, or Inward Funds Transfer. This shows up on my statements as X1 but looks pretty general, not sure if it is good enough for the immigration office though !!

@Brunolem I'm just going to jump in and say you're right. I've been here since 2000 also and the number of foreigners here are staggering. I could visit immigrations any time and would be surprised to see another one or two foreigners between then and probably up to about 2010. Same when I visited Tesco or Big-C (out here in the boonies of course). Ubon Ratchathani was still the boonies at least up until 2010. Now, I pass foreigners on my daily travels at least every 15 minutes or so. Anybody who has been here any length of time and says otherwise is just flat out lying (or they are blind/deaf). I now plan my trips to immigrations--early and way before my due dates--while avoiding days around weekends and holidays. Those who cannot see or haven't been here long have not figured this out yet--can tell by their posts--late this, crowded that, I didn't know, takes way too long to do, etc., etc., etc.
Don't try to defend yourself against the ill-informed. As one famous poster on ThaiVISA says, They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with (no) experience...
I agree i think Brunolem was spot on with his observations, i have been her since the late 90s and have used immigration offices all over the country and services in nearly all adjoining countries. There are far more expats here now and far more from continents other than Europe. I wonder what the people from the EU countries (including the UK) would think of the Thailand immigration rules if the same rules had been applied years ago in their countries?

Here is a copy of a Thai will in Thai and English. When you complete the will it has to be witnessed by a person in authority mine was done by the local village chief, you then give to the executor of the will. In regard to the money i keep for my retirement visa, i have this in an account that my Thai wife can access with my ATM details and we have arranged the maximum withdrawal amount as 500k so within a couple of days she is home and dry and that solves all the problems with the banks.

I believe life had some sort of intelligent design, and as I've pulled human remains out of a submerged plane crash and observed the lack of life, there is something about humans having a soul. It's even been weighed. As much as the method used to weigh the soul was sloppy science, I think the bible is sloppy narrative. Jesus was a short dark guy, not the European with flowing brown hair currently selling His book. It's been rewritten so many times with so many inconsistencies that it's difficult to fathom anyone taking it 100% seriously. There ARE many good parables, the lessons are good standards to apply to your walk through life. Do I believe we were created? Yes. Do I believe in the Judeo-Christian interpretation of God? No.
Intelligent design really!! The nerve that controls the gills in a fish travels from brain in a loop round part of the stomach. The same nerve in a giraffe that evolved into the voice box and larynx does the same!! If there was intelligent design it would have taken the shortest route. Also without the parables, much the same as the Buddhist teachings 500 years earlier, we would all be thieving murderess adulterers???? You only have to look at some of the Amazon tribes that have no religion to realise that even uncivilized people living together get along ok.

At 14 I negotiated and undertook a gardening contract I worked Saturdays and Sundays when not on the farm or helping farming friends. At the age of 11 I was driving tractors, by 13 I was driving tractors with fully loaded trailers.
Just because people have not come across youngsters helping out their parents in Europe does mean it has not happened and is probably still happening.
I don't think it carried too much adverse effect
I was the same, selling mint on Sundays fetching sawdust and cabbage leaves for the chickens, walking dogs, cutting lawns, gardening. butchers round, newspaper round, looking after sheep, driving a tractor. left school (hated it) and had about 35 different occupations did very well. Great education the practical one.

On the face of it, this looks EXTREMELY worrying for British retirees here. The irresponsible action of the British embassy in not confirming a retiree's income flow could be the death knell for many Brits here. Also, as far as I understand it, the British Government will not send pensions into a Thai bank account (only into a British one), and not every British bank will automatically forward a pension to a bank account in Thailand every month. Maybe I am wrong.
Perhaps it is not as bad as I fear. What do other members think?
I have my pension paid into my Thai bank account, no problem with that, but hope they are only referring to those that do not have the 800k in a bank account over here for retirement. My state pension is nowhere near 65k a month!!

We've been together for 28 years, I am not worried about her.
I understand that I could have an ATM card made, but it has daily withdraw limits, if large sums are needed someone still needs to go to the bank personally.
Can't put the money in a joint account at the moment, since the money is still seasoning until next extension.
I just want to make sure that she can get this money out for me in case of an emergency where I physically can't do it myself.
I don't know what bank you are with but my account has an atm card and my wife can withdraw 500K per day, when i die she can empty the account without going through the probate process. Same applies if she needed to withdraw funds if i was incapable.

They want 800.000 into a Thai bank so that if you die intestate they will keep it or else pick up the interest as a "fee" for holding it. Your lawyers in the UK or US will take about two years to get it back for a nice fee, and the bank also gets a nice fee for the transfer.
As confirmed by another poster, you need to do a will in thailand and have it witnessed etc. you can google and get a copy which i did. My wife and i went to the bank a couple of weeks ago (SCB) and organised that my account with the 800k in it can allow 500k a day to be withdrawn, so when i go she can empty the account and not have to wait around for months and involve lawyers etc.

The scooter i have is an Extreme 420, it was imported from the USA, not by me.
Three years ago i saw a member on here advertise it, he was selling it on behalf of a Thai lady, who had been left it by an American who had it imported, sadly he died days after it arrived, and i purchased it.
Prakonchai Nick, went to Naklua, and did the deal, Jip99 went and collected it, and brought it here for me.
I never heard of that model i suppose with it being from the USA, the scooters i used to sell were mainly from Taiwan, called the Shoprider, really good machines. Not sure what size your tyres are but did you know you can get puncture proof tyres?

What sort of scooter do you have Colin and where did you get it from? I used to run a mobility business back in the UK years ago, and now my mobility is really bad. Nice positive story, must say where i live all the locals are brilliant and very helpful. Last year after we moved back to the north from Phuket i had to have an ambulance take me to hospital and about 30 neighbours turned out just to wish me well.

Can you keep your existing company and work permit, and work for the new company as a consultant and just invoice them each month? The benefit for the new company is that they would not have to pay any severance or social security tax, and you would be better off from a taxation point of view, whilst retaining the 3 year stay requirement.

In at 10.07 am and out in 7 minutes later, despite the fact that I had to fill in two new forms ( "The Acknowledgement of Terms and Conditions for Permit of Temporary Stay in the Kingdom of Thailand", and the new version of "The Acknowledgement of Penalties for a Visa Overstay").
I think that Jomtien really got their act together. Staff are friendly and super-efficient!
I think i can go one better! Went to immigration in Nakhon Phanom to do mine, and the road outside was closed off for an annual market, my problem is i have a lung disease and walking is a nightmare, but had to park 1000yds away. I was very out of breath and the Lady office noticed and spoke with the wife who explained. I got visa soeted and as i was leaving the officer took my arm led me to a Police car and drove me back to my car, saying we have to look after our friends. Now how nice was that?

This reminds me of an old joke.
Three guys standing over the grave of an old Poker friend. The four of them had just finished playing Poker when he dropped dead from
a heart attack. At the funeral The remaining three guys; give the winning from the night before.
First guy puts an envelope in the coffin containing $ 35,000. Second guy puts an envelope containing $22,000. The third guy, puts an envelope
containing $26,000; but it is a small thin envelope. The other two guys say to him. "Why is your envelope so small ? You should pay your debt,
even if he has died ? " The third man looked shocked. " Of course I paid him in full. " " I didn't have even cash, so I wrote him a cheque ".
Spend it now ! You cannot take it with you !
The way i heard it was this: the two guys put their money in and the third guy puts a cheque in for $83,000 and takes the cash !!
